  1. Brandon Cooper was named head coach today. Cooper is a Garrard graduate who was previously head coach in 2011-12. He’s been an assistant at Danville the last several seasons. He was a long time assistant at Southwestern prior to coming to Garrard the first time.
  2. 6, but throw some of 4 in too
  3. Was there a large purple block S on the side of a gold helmet in the late 70s/early 80s?
  4. Is Danny Wright still in Lee County? Always thought he did a really good job there.
  5. I haven't read that one but it is on the list. Keeping with Candice Millard, her book "Hero of the Empire" about Winston Churchill in South Africa during the Boer War was also really good. I like her work.
  6. First change in distance since 1926. According to Wikipedia it was also ran at 1.5 miles from 1874-1889. The race has also been run at the following distances: a mile and five furlongs in 1867–1873; a mile and a quarter in 1890–1892, 1895, and 1904–1905; a mile and a furlong in 1893–1894; and a mile and three furlongs from 1896–1903 and 1906–1925. Belmont was all over the place in the early years.
  7. Same here. The Danville Advocate-Messenger arrived at our house around 3 o'clock and I'd get it out of the box when I got home from school every day. That hasn't been a thing for me in a long time, though.
  8. If this is too soon, I apologize!
  9. Yes, Son of Sam was 77. The book goes pretty deep into the craziness of that story as well.
  10. I like both sides but I don't like both sides being different. The T sword on both sides would look the best in my opinion.
  11. There is a great book about that season for the Yankees (and New York City in general). ESPN later made a miniseries about it, but the book was much better. Wild season all around.
  12. Seems very possible that the Triple Crown could be Belmont/Derby/Preakness, with the Breeders Cup in November.
  13. I’m guessing so, but any relation to the Anthony Hickey that played for the Christian County state title team then went on to LSU?
  14. Some districts have made the decision to not pay their coaches if there is no season. It could be that the current coaches were released from contract and will be resigned once a season is confirmed. That’s just me guessing - that seems like an odd thing to do.
  15. Absolutely. I understood your point and agreed with it. I kinda ventured off in another direction for a couple of posts after. I apologize!
  16. I think each team has about nine games left. Do you know if they'll play every weekend or try to squeeze in two games per week? If its every weekend you have to think that might delay the start of the next season, but you can't delay too much because the European Championships were moved to 2021 and will start in June of next year.
  17. From the 1980 Hazard High yearbook. Looks like they defeated Letcher 9-3, Powell County 6-0, and Owsley County 9-0.
  18. I can see the players agreeing here in exchange for concessions in the next CBA. You can guarantee anything that happens this season is part of a longer term plan.
  19. I know they were talking about players sitting in the bleachers. I’m with you - 45 to 50 is a huge number. Almost untenable unless you did some type of active/inactive thing like the NBA.
  20. I was watching one of the Korean League games the other day and they mentioned how spitting had been banned. I’d assume MLB would implement something similar but it seems hard to police.
  21. Even with some semblance of spring training it’s hard to think players (especially pitchers) will be ready. I’ve heard all along there could be expanded rosters. It doesn’t appear there will be Minor League Baseball this season. Do the teams do some type of extended spring training for those MiLB guys just to have a collection of players ready for call up if players are injured (possible with weird preseason) or infected with Covid?
