  1. Sheldon Clark and Martin County is the same school, correct? They just built a new building and renamed it.
  2. A far outsiders view: 1st region scoring is always low. Any particular reason?
  3. Utah State was probably going in but this took away any doubt. San Diego State is still probably a two seed.
  4. 15th Region tournament winners are piling up points. Pikeville with 90 and Martin County 77 last night, now Lawrence County with 84 this evening. Offensive basketball is always the best!
  5. First region tournament game victory for McLean County since 1984 and only the second in school history. This sets up an interesting semifinal matchup with Owensboro Catholic, who won the regular season meeting by sixteen points. If that sounds familiar, Owensboro Catholic handled McLean in the regular season in football only to be upset in the playoffs, denying OCath a tenth consecutive district title. Can McLean upset Owensboro Catholic twice in the same year with it all on the line?
  6. Powell has shown an ability to be competitive over the last several years. Jones would be a very good hire for them.
  7. Best win was probably over Montgomery County. Lost by 17 to Clark County and by 8 to Brossart in the All "A." Played CAL, Dixie Heights, and Covington Holy Cross over Christmas. Didn't play Bourbon, Mason, or Campbell.
  8. First region tournament game victory for Wolfe since 2014. They've been to the region finals twice, losing in 1969 and 2001. I'd love to see them make it to Rupp. Only the second time in school history Perry Central has lost in the first round, the other being a 56-51 loss to Knott Central in 2014. They've played in all but three regional tournaments since opening in 1995-96.
  9. Between winning the league, advancing to Europe, in-season domestic and international cups, and/or avoiding relegation, European soccer leagues have something for nearly every team most seasons. While I guess there is excitement in losing in the NBA or NFL due to getting a better draft pick, the promotion/relegation of European soccer is way better in my opinion than watching my favorite MLB team sink to a 60-102 record for a season that was over by Memorial Day.
  10. No one besides Elton John could have seen this coming.
  11. 2011. Ironically, lost to Rockcastle in the semifinals. Rock would then win the state title. Nine years later they meet again.
  12. Absolutely. They really had no choice, especially with the region starting on Monday. Whatever the 1997 version of BGP was probably had some folks fussing and cussing about a coin flip, though! :lol2:
  13. I don't have any record of that on the boys side (Pendleton lost a one-point heartbreaker to Brossart in the district), but maybe the girls? I know Falmouth was heavily flooded. I remember our church sending relief supplies to a sister congregation there.
  14. Can't play Male since they are in the same district. I'd imagine X would want the Manual/Central winner instead of Ballard or Trinity.
  15. Really nice season for Phelps, who is now 21-10. The Hornets have won 11 in a row heading into the region tournament.
  16. Spring of 1997 saw torrential rains and devastating flooding on the Licking River and Ohio River, among other parts of Kentucky. According to the National Weather Service 92 counties in Kentucky were declared disaster areas. Tens of thousands of people were evacuated from their homes, with total damage across the region around $400,000,000. The Ohio River rose to the highest levels since March of 1964. Tragically, 19 deaths occurred in Kentucky; 9 were people who attempted to cross flooded roadways. The Flood of 1997 Not nearly as important, but something I've never heard discussed on BGP, was the conclusion of the 37th District tournament. Played at Harrison County, the game was called at halftime due to rising waters in the area. Officials and administrators decided to use a coin flip to determine the winner, with Bourbon County getting the lucky landing. The luck wouldn't last, however, as Bourbon County lost to Fleming County in the first round of the region. Flooded Harrison County, losers of the coin flip, would go on to win the 10th Region crown and beat Apollo in the state tournament at Rupp Arena before bowing to Paintsville in the quarterfinals. Does anyone recall this game? Even with flooding and dangerous conditions, I can't believe anyone would be happy with a coin flip to determine a champion.
  17. Boyle was up 15 at halftime in this one. Darrian Bell is an outstanding player for Danville. He just wills that team forward.
  18. Entire season became a giant what-if for North Oldham after the Powell injury.
  19. Not that one playoff win makes any difference, but Anderson County was 10-0 in 2018 but had a first round bye because Grant County dropped out off the opposite district. Highlands came to Anderson and won a close round two game, 14-10. I remembering thinking that was pretty tough luck for Anderson County - undefeated season, district championship, no warm up playoff game, and have to play one of the better programs in your first game of the postseason.
  20. Nice win for Western. Quite a few of the lesser known Jefferson County teams (read: not Male, Ballard, T, and X) are having very solid years. It has been a good year for high school hoops in Louisville.
  21. Admittedly I've not watched Duke consistently, but it seems like his minutes have been fewer and fewer every time I watch.
