  1. Sheppard definitely looked bad. Yet he scored 1 more point and grabbed 1 more rebound in 9 fewer minutes played than Edwards, who was subbed in for Reeves at the 4 minute mark when Kentucky had just cut the lead down to 12~. I just can't figure Edwards out; nor can I figure out why Cal would put him in at a point where you might have had one more chance for a quick offensively explosion while leaving two of your three best shooting guards on the bench.
  2. Just hoping Lyon County makes it to Saturday. Wanting to see them play but have work and other distractions on Thursday and Friday. Would love to see a Newport/Lyon semifinal.
  3. Barren County won district titles in 1984 and 1988. They beat Oldham County in the first round of the playoffs in 1992, to this day their only playoff win.
  4. Two excellent matchups. I think all four teams are capable of winning this tournament but I'd probably go with Trinity.
  5. What I've noticed about Stonebraker as a coach as his career has progressed is that he has gotten much better at building his style around his personnel. If it needs to be a run team, he'll run. If it needs to be a passing team, he'll pass. When you coach at mid-sized rural schools like Garrard, Casey, and Adair you have to adapt to your personnel. It would be interesting to see him at a program like Pulaski where personnel really shouldn't ever be a problem. I think he'd kill it!
  6. Garrard struggles to score consistently. They played well for two quarters then hit a bit of a lull in the third and Lincoln moved the lead out to about nine. Then they played pretty well again in the fourth. The Golden Lions have very little returning experience from the last couple of years but I've been pleased with their progress and performance in their last two district games against Danville and Lincoln. Hopefully there are a few more wins on the horizon this winter.
  7. Estill County has played Rockcastle County in the playoffs twice, falling in both 2019 and 2023.
  8. I've always thought he'd be a good choice for Chicago but it hasn't happened yet. The NFL jobs available right now are Chargers, Raiders, Falcons, Titans, Commanders, and potentially the Patriots (I might have missed one). I'm not sure which of those would be appealing to him, although I think he would be an excellent hire for any of those teams.
  9. I love that Boyle County does this. Forkland last year, Junction City this year. That leaves Parksville and Perryville over the next couple of years. Does anyone know what they do with the jerseys once they play the game?
  10. Those records are a bit deceiving. Boyle has had some issues but seems to be starting to gel into a region favorite team many expected. Warren Central has only played 7 games, all but the last two without their WKU-signed star. They are inexperienced but have some solid pieces and are always difficult to beat.
  11. Talked to someone at the Lexington Catholic tournament who said he thought Fleming County was the best team in the 16th Region. Looks like 5-6 teams in the region have similar records. Would you agree that Fleming is the best or is there someone else?
  12. It's never been an easy job, as evidenced by only one win in sixteen playoff appearances (a first round win over Marshall County in 2001). However, the current alignment puts them in a district with Bowling Green, Greenwood, and South Warren - absolutely brutal.
  13. I think they miss Jakei Tarter tremendously. He was an excellent player but I think their entire roster fed off his emotion and energy. Guys like that are hard to replace.
  14. Nice breakdown! Definitely feels like we're moving toward a very interesting DCA/Somerset championship game.
  15. I tend to agree with you, but have most of Cooper's players been with the program for some time? Boyle has had an influx of basketball transfers the last couple of years so not only are they starting late because of football success, they've also not played a ton of basketball together at all.
  16. When the KHSAA realigned the regions back in 2005, the All A didn't necessarily follow suit. I think it had to do with keeping a balance of the number of teams in Louisville (they didn't want one region with 10 teams and another with 2). And they've never changed it back.
  17. Shelby Valley in 2010 is the only one. University Heights won the All "A" in 1990 and 1991 but lost to Lexington Catholic in the finals in 1992. UHA then beat Catholic in the '92 Sweet 16 finals. Paintsville won the overall state title in 1996 but lost to Harlan in the first round of the All A.
  18. The announcer in the game at Wayland a couple of weeks ago compared them to the '95 Breckinridge County team that won the state title because of how well they pass the ball. I think this Lyon County club is more explosive offensively but that's not a bad comparison.
  19. Top six looks about right with perhaps some slight modification of order.
  20. Trinity Christian has only beat one team with a winning record (Leslie County at the end of a 3-day tournament) and all four losses are by sizable margins against fair-to-middling teams. I don't foresee them beating East, DCA, or Mercer.
  21. I think so, too. However, last season they were upset by University Heights in the regional. I don't know if UHA is good enough to do it again but the Blazers are 7-3 right now and if anyone in Kentucky knows how to wins All "A" games it is University Heights.
  22. The 1928 state championship game between Carr Creek and Ashland. Ashland won 13-11 in four overtimes in a time when basketball overtime was sudden death. The takes (and KHSAA blame!) about that overtime setup would have been apoplectic during that game!
  23. Catholic beat Lyon by 20 last year in the semifinals when it seemed like Lyon County had hit a wall after playing 14 games over the first month of the season. That is my only concern this evening and also why I think Lexington Catholic will win, although I suspect, like @LCDAWGS19, that it will be a good game.
