First off prayers for a successful surgery and full recovery for Alex Grau. Secondly, the Breds are the regional champions until someone beats them. But to try and tell me or anyone else that losing that game doesn't mean anything to them is ludicrous. It is not the end of the world but if you asked every young man on that team they will tell you it mattered to them and I can assure it does to the parents and the majority of the fan base. If I were them I would play it off also in a manner that says "Hey we lost in the district last year and look at what we did, thats ok we'll just win the region". I would do the same thing as a coach or player. But in reality it does matter for pride and more importantly for momentum going into the regional tournament. NCC has a very nice team and they will certainly contend for the championship Thirdly, congratulations to Coach Bioni and the Birds! You have worked hard and it shows as the team plays with confidence. Get yourself ready and lets go win 3 games next week! GO BIRDS!

RockPride, I am sorry you feel this way. I am just telling you what the parent told me. I did not post this to play a game but to add to the conversation in an informative manner - based on an actual conversation. I did speak with the parent and have no reason to make this up. I have no dog in this fight. I personally want to see Trinity play the OH teams.

Spoke with a parent of a Cincy X player last night and he is adamant that Trinity is the one that cancelled the game.

For the Highlands players personal recognition is great but the team and the championship is what is really about. Congrats to all!

Let me see. How many kick offs were returned for touchdowns? You might want to back those out of the average per game. Also, how many times did we fumble, throw an interception and have to defend a short field? A couple that come to mind. Cov Cath's first touchdown in the first game. The Ryle game we turned the ball over I think it was 4 times in the first quarter and all inside the 30 and the defense was on the field 90% of the first half and only gave up one TD. Additionally in the Elder game we were winning 17 - 10 in the 3rd Quarter and the turnover gave Elder the ball on a short field and they scored. From there the momementum turned to Elder and yes we had trouble stopping them as did Colerain and Moeller. And finally how many TD's were given up by the JV in the second half? Not saying they were all world but people on here act like they were horrible when they held CCH to 21 and 13 points when they were averaging 50 plus per game etc, etc. Collins had never been shut out in school history. End result is they played well when they had to and achieved their goal.

How about he did not come up and get the ball on a couple of pooch kicks and let the ball bounce and he also had a fumble. that is more than likely why he did not play coming down the stretch.

These guys only played one half of most games!

Additionally throughout the year the Birds D has never been at full strength. All Birds fans know the players and the issues. No need to post them on here but we will be ready come playoff time. Go Birds!!

I would have to go back and look but outside of the first half of the Boyle game not sure the run defense has given up but 3 or 4 TD's all year. Kickoff has given up more TD's than the run D and maybe the D period. Seems to me the Birds D does a pretty dang good job of holding the other team and getting the O good field position. Maybe they aren't as dominant as some of the teams of the past but they aren't to shabby. I will take 8-0. I am sure we will be tested Friday but that is why they play the games.

Wow Birds give up one TD on defense and everything needs to be fixed, really? Birds played a whole lot of people and not just in the 4th Q. Western was a big, fast, athletic team. Of course there are always things to work on but there was a lot of rotation on both sides of the ball and in special teams. So stay the course as our coaches and boys have heard all this before and have done quite well. Threw the ball a lot so it would appear they were working on a few things as when they needed to run it they typically got what they needed.

Between Shields and Messmer at Highlands in their combined 27 years as head coaches they won 9 regional championships and played in other regional finals not winning. So to say they were not dominant might be correct but their record in those 27 years playing the competition they played in and out of the 9th region was pretty dang good. I would have to look this up but if you look at those years I would say they won more regional championships in that period than any other school. They did this with a combination of players that were only basketball and those that played other sports including football. This years team has 7 or 8 football players on the JV and Varsity so I am not sure why people keep harping on the football players for not playing. I don't hear why isn't this baseball or soccer player not playing when there are some of those young men that could contribute also. Maybe they quit playing a sport because they just don't enjoy it anymore - kind of like when you change jobs or careers. Football always had practice in the summer and there was baseball in the summer and basketball was pick up games or you went to a camp (not a team camp) so when you add in all the organization, mandatory practices games etc maybe it really isn't fun to all of them anymore. Sometimes kids are playing for their parents and not themselves. I can think of one HHS grad that did this and had all the talent in the world and did not want to play. He did because his dad wanted him to. The team would have been better off without him IMHO. There are kids walking the halls of every high school that don't play any sports and could but they don't care to. As far as AAU goes I think most would be better off playing pick up basketball in Goebel Park, the Armory, Friars Club, Y etc because often times kids get burned out playing tournaments each weekend and practicing when some of the coaches act and think they are Bobby Knight. Not all of them but some of them. Just because you played AAU doesn't guarantee that you are going to play in HS. Kids get bigger and stronger and others quit growing and improving.

Can anyone tell me how many free throws HHS missed? I think the CCH students at half would have shot a better percentage from half court given the same number of chances. Birds miss the front end of a 1 and 1 or both on 2 and CCH gets the rebound and scores by pushing it up the floor. HHS does not have a chance to slow them down if they don't make the free throws. Again, hats off to the Colonels.

The Birds shot horrible from the free throw line and this coupled with the turnovers netted the final margin of victory. Congrats to the Colonels! The Birds have only themselves to blame. But then again the substution patterns did not make sense at all. Score 2 baskets and come out..... on more than one occassion.

And just think, Pat did all this playing 2 quarters and one series in the 3rd on most Friday nights. I think someone should look at the quarters played and then do the comparison.

Hello !!!! Highlands is driving four and a half hours to Western Ky. to play F.S. in the finals , does that count ? :lol: Is it 1975 0r 76 when the speed limit was 55? Or are you a senior citizen just enjoying the ride. It is only 200 miles from Ft. Thomas to BG. 3 hours 15 minutes with no delays in Louisville and if you "hustle" a little you can make it in 3 hours.

I understand completely. Q is complaining about the disparity between the teams and all I am saying is that it goes on in basketball and even in basketball the district runner up gets a second chance going to the regionals. So there are some basketball games that should not be played if you want to look at it like that.

Q, What is the difference between district basketball seeds and football? Say one of the 6A schools playing a 1A school they know they can run off the floor, out muscle, out jump? Does anyone like the differential no, but it is what it is. The goal is the same to get a win and not get anyone hurt.
