2025 Boyle County Rebels
George Rogers Clark. It appeared at the time that the move was motivated by basketball. Now that Boyle has a new basketball coach he's apparently going back there.

12th Region Off-Season Discussion (2025-2026)
I'm sorry, I misinterpreted your question and thought you were asking about Ateny from DCA. My mistake.

Not that I'm aware of. He tweaked his ankle a few days ago and played against Frederick Douglass but wasn't at full speed. He sat out the Pulaski game later that afternoon. He looked good in the KY/Indiana junior all star game with 10 points in 15 minutes of playing time.

How good is he as a football player? He put up some good stats last year and looks the part. Is he D1 material?

He might be. He started the year last year a little slow but finished strong. He has better post footwork than Farmer IMHO.

DCA over Pulaski by 2 but both teams were missing their best player so it's difficult to tell much from this game. Fraley for Pulaski and Ateny for DCA didn't play.

How many schools are there in KY that've never had any other schools in the same county with football programs?
When did Pulaski start a football program? It was Somerset only for a long time.

Offseason Measurements translating to success of the field
Muscle burns more calories at rest than fat, even if you aren’t doing a lot of activity. It’s “metabolically expensive” so to speak. And, high intensity training uses a lot of the stored glycogen in the muscles which helps with insulin resistance. Additionally, it triggers the release of various hormones such as testosterone and human growth hormone (HGH) which are very important. Look up Dr Jason Fung and Dr Doug McGuff for some good information.

I'm pretty sure that Wayne, McCreary, Casey and Lincoln would fit that description.

One of the problems with the really elite sprinters is that they typically don't have good endurance. They're just wired differently. For a sport like football it's good to have some guys who are fast but maybe not elite who can sustain that effort over the course of the game. Obviously, the more of them you have the better.

He worked as an assistant under Ed McKinney as well so he should have learned a few things in that time period. Ed’s a solid coach.

Summer Ball?
It won't be long until summer ball starts. Does anyone have any schedules they can share?

CU-Harrodsburg closing undergraduate programs
CU-Harrodsburg is closing their undergraduate programs. They've had some solid teams and some pretty good players. Several of them will be looking for small colleges, probably in KY, so they can keep on playing.

Officiating shortage solution thesis
I'm not sure about the other sports but with basketball it seems like you could get a pretty good idea of how good an individual official or crew is by reviewing video if the video is of sufficient quality. It's easy to go frame by frame and watch the plays multiple times. I know the calls are made quickly and in the heat of the moment so it would primarily be useful to look for trends. If the same official or crew appeared to be biased, mistaken about the rules, or consistently out of position it would alert the supervisors to keep an eye on them. Everyone makes mistakes and that's understandable but I've seen some very bad officiating the last couple of years. Not everyone with knowledge of the game wants to be an official but there are plenty like me who can't run up and down the court anymore due to bad knees but who know the rules and have the time to review video. You'd need to pay them something but it would probably be worth it. I also have a question. Is there any review process for technical fouls? Do the officials have to report what the technical was for and do the coaches have any way to report that to the supervisor of officials if it appeared to be personal or unduly influence the outcome of the game?

2025 Boyle County Rebels
I read elsewhere that his surgery was in January and the earliest return date is end of July. When I've talked to orthopedic surgeons and PT's they all put full recovery at longer than that. When you read the scouting reports on this guy it looks like he's a running quarterback, "athlete" type so if he's a step slower than normal that could make a big difference.

Baylor Murphy. 77% completion rate, 2009 yards, 30 touchdowns. Pretty solid year.

Apparently, there was nothing to it. I won’t repeat it since it was just a baseless rumor.

I've asked but I've not heard anything other than a current 12th region coach was being considered.

12th Region Off-Season Discussion (2025-2026)
There are several coaches who could have had a good defense with DCA's personnel. But, they wouldn't have done it without coaching them. I don't think "just about anyone" could have had a defense that good. There are a lot of subtleties to a good team defense that have to be taught. That's even more apparent when you're running a 3-2 like DCA did. How and when to trap, how to handle dribble penetration, how deep to sag on the weak side, etc. All of that is from coaching. It's similar to blocking out and rebounding. Blocking out is completely counter-intuitive and has to be taught. A player's natural instinct is to turn and move toward the basket, not to seal his man and move away from the basket. There's more to it than just having good athletes. A year ago DCA had a good defense when they went 25-7. They lost 2 of their quickest athletes and then got better this year. That's with a new coach and a new system. Once you got past the top 3 all of the next 6 players in the rotation but one had very little varsity experience. There was a lot of good coaching going on. Not only that, it took a lot for the coaches to get the players to buy in and play with the effort on defense they demonstrated all year. Why is it that of those top 6 defensive teams I mentioned as I complimented their defenses and their coaches, DCA is always the one that gets the "anyone could win with 2 big guys" or "anyone could coach them" comments?
