At this time of year it comes down to match ups if everyone is pretty healthy. Some teams match up pretty well so the outcome isn't as easy to predict. Somerset, with a full compliment of players, and Pulaski looks to be an interesting game. Both teams have good size, not only in terms of height, but they've got some solidly built front line players. Neither team is super quick. They both have capable three point shooters but not a host of them like an Ashland or Fleming County. They both have good coaches. Pulaski might have an edge in that the Somerset players have not been playing together due to all of the injuries.

Garrard tried a box and one with the chaser on Boyd which I thought was an interesting concept. He gets most of his points in transition due to defensive pressure. It was probably good for DCA to see that defense in order to learn how to play against it. Lincoln tried it for a handful of possessions but didn’t stick with it. DCA did a good job on limiting Noe’s looks and he played it smart by not forcing things.

Is he able to practice and play yet?

I thought I’d seen them filming before. I just couldn’t figure out why I couldn’t find their games on HUDL.

There are some things that could be done to improve the situation. First, every school could be required to provide a high quality video feed of every game. If a school the size of Somerset can do it then surely a school like Boyle (artificial turf, weight room as big as many small colleges) can do it. Lake Cumberland Sports offers a quality video feed for lots of the games in Pulaski County. In this age of low cost technology it shouldn't be a problem. Plus, there are plenty of tech kids in every school who would jump at the chance to do it. Second, hire some qualified people (retired players, coaches, officials, etc) to examine the video and note the time stamp and the missed calls. It doesn't take that long to do a 32 minute game. Vet them to make sure they know what they're doing. Assign people who have no vested interest in either team to examine the video. If certain patterns show up such as way too many missed calls that favor one team over the other or if one official is making most of the bad calls then bump it up for another KHSAA official to review.

Are the girl’s LIT games being streamed by anyone?

Joe has a decent argument for quite a few of the officials. However, like in most areas, the exceptions are a real problem. Most of the games I attend are in the vicinity of Danville/Boyle County and it seems like I see the same group of officials all the time. I'd say the 80/20 rule applies. 80% of the ridiculous calls and arrogant attitudes come from the same small percentage of officials. I don't know if it's 20% or 5%, but there are some who actually surprise you if they call a decent game. There are a few, who I won't mention by name, who should have given it up a few years ago. I'd add to your comment about the impact poor officiating has on the coaches. It also affects the players. They work way too hard in practice and in the off season to have to deal with this. I agree with your statement that most coaches can handle it when an officials misses a call and have some humility about it. Everyone makes mistakes and coaches realize that. It's the ones on a power trip who are a problem. I also think the fans who know something about basketball can deal with a few missed calls, especially if it appears they go both ways.

I did watch the play. Multiple times. In slow motion. I couldn’t see the players hands due to the camera angle. I said it was questionable because the ref who reversed it also had a bad angle.

That was a questionable call but as far as the overall game went there were way more going against DCA than for them.

I’m not for anyone getting injured but it’s possible he got the busted lip on this play. As you can clearly see, there was no elbow to the face. It appears that he hit him when he jumped into the cylinder. RPReplay_Final1738187024.MOV

Actually, Boyd did not make contact with the Lincoln player (#3). If you don't believe me go to the WPBKFM YouTube broadcast and check for yourself. At 2:59:29 #3 was pressing Boyd and faked like he'd been elbowed. At 2:59:35 the same player was pressing Boyd. According to the cylinder rule the offensive player can move the ball from side to side which is what Boyd was doing. If contact is made it's a defensive foul. It's impossible to tell for sure but it doesn't appear that Boyd's elbow made contact but #3 hit him in the face and on the arm during that sequence. Later, at 3:03:58 they had Boyd in a trap and again there was no contact. There was at least a foot between Boyd's elbow and #3's face. #14 grabbed Boyd's arm which resulted in the foul. I provided the exact times on the YouTube broadcast. Look for yourself.

I don't know what was said by Coach Jackson but he had been warned and had been out on the floor most of the game. Coach Busick was given a technical by Tony Gray in the first half with no warning and told that if he got up again he'd get another technical and be thrown out of the game.

They were gassed for sure. 5 games in 6 days against some tough opponents, plus travel, etc. And, to use a phrase I hate “the officials were letting them play….”, meaning a lot of contact.

They had the right officials last night. It was a very poorly officiated game. I’m going to watch it again to see if I misjudged them but there are some officials in the 12th region that should have hung it up already.

I hated to see her get injured in the Class A final. I was looking forward to her matchup with Grace Mbugua. Are there any updates on the severity of her injury?

There were a lot of turnovers on both sides. Four games in four days will lead to that.
