  1. Physical contest. Both teams played very hard. Brossart went up 13-0 in the first half on short quick passes that neutralized Nicholas D-line. Teams got settled and at half the score was 14-13 NC if memory serves. Second half was a defensive struggle. Both teams tried to rely on their offensive game plan from the first half but both staffs had made adjustments at half on defense. good win on the road for Brossart. That game will be good for both teams coming down the stretch. Nicholas is not likely to see a team that wants to throw as often until they play Raceland late in the season. Not sure Brossart will see a team that wants to run the ball right at them the way Nicholas wanted to the rest of the way on their schedule. the score is a good reflection of the game between former district foes that know each other well.
  2. Nicholas County 86 Rowan County 69
  3. GRC looked in mid season form. Nicholas looked like it was the first game of the season. Nicholas also has no bench. They played 6-7 kids whole game. Nicholas will be a problem for a lot of teams this year. They’ll have a good record at seasons end and should compete for region crown as predicted. GRC doubled on defense at all the right times, tip of the cap to Coach, he knew all the buttons to push and knew the NC kids by name. GRC personnel is not as “D-1” as they have been in recent memory, but still should be heavy region favorite. Nicholas is physically tough, tonight GRC was tougher, GRC has some tough, scrappy, mix it up kids and they came out swinging to let the 10th region know the championship still runs through GRC.
  4. Does anyone have broadcast information?
  5. Watched the whole game then watched again. The better team did not win the game, but the better coaching staff did. Good luck to both going forward, kudos to both for having the guts to put the game on the schedule.
  6. Should be a good game. BB played a great game against Sayre a couple weeks ago. Then Bracken really took that momentum and smashed it. Nicholas has a soft schedule but is as physical as ever and can probably get 10 yards in 4 tries on almost anybody in 1A, 2A or 3A good on good. So it’ll be an interesting game. This series has been a respectful one. Good luck to both teams.
  7. Don’t sleep on Bracken. Sleep keeps happening and Bracken keeps finding next man up. Also, Bracken is AA. This is not a Class A matchup. (Not sympathy for a school that decides their enrollment, this is just not 1A v 1A)
  8. Agreed. Get out ahead of it, don’t wait until the week of to try to find a replacement game.
  9. Yes, Berea cancelled the game against Nicholas County.
  10. Paris perspective: Athletic but looked very young as opposed to recent years, particularly at the skill positions. Looks like the coaching staff is a disciplined and detail oriented group of veterans that will probably have them hitting on more cylinders later in the season. As like many 1A schools, not much depth. They didn't have more than 30 kids and about half of that looked like they could really contribute at the Varsity level. Paris scored on a pick six, and a couple long runs. They didn't get to run much offense and didn't sustain drives when they had the ball. Bath County had a lot more time of possession with Paris scoring on quick hitters. So I can't say I got much of a read on what the Paris coaches want to do offensively. Paris played much more defense than offense in the EKC Scrimmage. When Bath Co. squared up and wanted to run downhill they had success moving the ball. When Bath Co. wanted to get to the edge or spread it out, which they wanted to do too frequently, that style played right into Paris's hand. Barring mounting injuries, I look for Paris to improve each week under the new staff.
  11. Paris v Bath Game take away from 1 scrimmage: Paris took advantage of turnovers to jump out to an early lead and would hold on. Bath was big upfront but couldn’t get a lot going on offense and susceptible to the big play on defense. Paris was fast but will struggle defensively with an opponent who enjoys being physical and can eat clock. Paris won by 3 scores, can’t remember exact final. Nicholas v East Nicholas moved the ball up and down the field most of the night but failed to convert after multiple long touchdown runs called back for penalties. East did not move the ball much but did convert on 2 big plays for scores. Final was East 14 Nicholas 6. Good battles up front all night on both sides, both offense and defensive lines for both teams battled all night. There is a lot of excitement for East’s program, looked to have 60-70 kids out. For Nicholas it was true “Ironman” football with their starters going both ways for much of the game. Surprising result when looking at expectations for the season. Nicholas, barring injury should have a good record by seasons end and East should be in the hunt for a district championship again this season.
  12. Friday August 15th Paris v Bath Co 6pm Nicholas Co v East Carter 8pm Games at Nicholas County High as part of the EKC Grid-o-Rama.
  13. Livestream or broadcast info anyone? Mytown doing? Thanks in advance.
  14. They have a good youth program with lots of enthusiasm and pride with good numbers. I hope BC goes out and gets a program builder in it for the long haul and not a “stepping stone”coach. They have the kids and facilities, they just need the coaching and the buy in.
  15. Raceland is good. They beat "the King" of 1A earlier in the year in a game that was played for pride (as I don't see it did anything for Raceland in the RPI...since they're traveling this week). HARD WORK has some legit points about the fact that Raceland is often portrayed in the same light as Pikeville, NCC, Mayfield, Beechwood, etc. as 1A powers and dynasties...but that is a recent development. Don't get me wrong, Raceland has always been a good 1A football program, but not elite and anyone that would argue differently is a homer. Coach Vanderhoof had a good, hardnosed product. What Coach Salmons has done is awesome and he's created a machine with full community support! But Raceland is not 1A royalty. Not yet. So in this game their advantage, if any, is the personnel they have on the field. Their legacy as a traditional power will not make Sayre back down or back off...and it shouldn't. Raceland travels and Raceland wins, but not because of it's name on the front of the jersey, they win because of the names on the back...this year they have better, seasoned players ready for this moment.
  16. Caproni’s downtown is a nice spot, right on the river.
  17. Is this game being streamed? I apologize in advance if this has already been posted…
  18. Paris is 1A…Rockcastle is 3A. Right? The fact that they’re “evenly matched” is laughable. The pool they have, the resources they have, the facilities, they have. Just stop. Stop talking. Paris is the better team. That’s the thought going forward.
