Both offenses struggled this past week according tot he stats. I think your score is more likely than not the outcome. Heart says Dixie, but as valiant an effort Dixies defense had Friday, Cooper has more horses than Lloyd. Cooper in a close, probably low scoring tilt. I think this game will tell us more about Cooper and what their season will be like than Dixie.

Oh yes, how soon we forget he wasn't even the first choice. He was hired more out of necessity.

I know this is only year two, but these echoes about the staff are more and more prevalent as the seasons go on. I seem to recall a thread from this summer or early spring that suggested the potential of "daddy ball" going on in Fort Thomas. Or at least that was the concern. Or, maybe some of the over zealous fans of Highlands could chill out and let the man build the program HIS way. The man can clearly coach and win at a high level. Plus, you see it more and more that less kids are transferring from other regions due to their parents working from home and sparing themselves a move.

I'm sure most will look at that score and say what you are saying. Silver lining is that Dixie's defense was on the field almost the entirety of the game, and still found a way to hold the offense to 12 points... and down a key member of their defense. Make the assumption that Dixie is down, that is fair considering what they lost to graduation, but they are not out. This week will be a really big indicator going against a good Cooper squad that will no doubt be hungry for their first win.

Holmes winning against Grant County in the dominant fashion they did. I think most had Holmes being competitive in this game and winning/losing a close one. After what they lost to graduation I did not see that score as a possibility.

Had a coach tell me before the Mason County scrimmage they had upwards of 100 plus come out this summer. Youth program is back in place, Turkeyfoot has good numbers, and a new head coach/staff, so they have had a buzz out there. Should be able to field a legit freshman squad now without placing lesser athletically inclined sophomores to fill holes.

The address of the player wouldn't be an issue in this circumstance. So the one year rule would make more sense if you are correct there isn't anything in motion to prevent the kid from suiting up.

Hearing Dixie was short a linebacker in this game. Apparently CovCath is fighting the transfer of a kid from them to Dixie. I hope they get that resolved soon the kid is a senior. Drama between the red/blue colonels.

The first half was all Lloyd with long drives that took a lot of time off the clock. Dixie's offense could not get anything going for the first two quarters. Lloyd had a change at QB I think due to injury maybe that is why their passing offense was less than stellar. Dixies adjustments at the half helped them out and they got their running game going which led to their first passing score. Lloyd continued to run the ball effectively keeping Dixies offense on the sideline. Credit Dixies defense with being on the field for a long time and coming up with timely stops to prevent Lloyd from putting the game away. Lloyd just looked like they ran out of gas at the end and gave up a long running touchdown giving Dixie the lead. It wasn't pretty at all for either team. Observation for me is that Lloyd is way better than last year, and Dixie is very young and undisciplined. Offensive penalties have to be cleaned up by Dixie. Congrats to Coach Burke on his first victory at the helm.

This is a fair take. They may very well be a district contender and beyond, but the Pioneers have two years of not very good to overcome in public opinion. They will have an improved defense and they have the good fortune of good QB. But outside of that all I hear about SK is that they have some big lineman. I'm not sure they scare anyone...... yet.

I am really curious what we will see from Dixie and the new head coach. I know Dixie lost a lot to graduation. Game is at Dixie this year. Going to be a lot of emotion I am sure being that their old head coach is on the other sideline helping the team they face week 1.

I see a couple have Dixie in their 6 to 10 range. I think 8/9 is more likely where they may end up. Almost an entirely new staff, a new defensive and offensive system having to be installed in a period of 5 or so months? I think they may be a season or two out yet. I think Ryle and SK battle for the district title this year in 6A NKY.

Just weird to look at this bracket and not see a Holmes team on it. Those 9th region battles over the years were epic when they had a small say in it. Topic for another thread but what is going on at Holmes the past few seasons?

The first of many for this young man. An absolute man in the trenches. Going to be a fun one to track these next two seasons.

Rumor mill with the players is that it's been narrowed down to two candidates (no names yet) and the principal may make an announcement hopefully early next week.

You wonder if a guy like that is just looking for the next big thing instead of establishing a foothold and building a program. Not faulting anyone for moving upward, just saying Dixie has enjoyed a lot of continuity with their head coaches, my opinion is they are looking for more of a long term guy, and with experience.

If the rumor mill is correct, Coach Elkin is soon to be announced as the head coach at Goshen High in Ohio. If this is true, big loss for the red Colonels.

Kids loved him, would be an absolute slam dunk hire. Brings experience and some continuity with whats left of the staff. That defensive staff was solid under him.

You make some great points here. I’m not so sure the answer is that simple. Coach Brossart was very involved in the Dixie Youth getting back up and running and several Dixie parents were also involved. So there is an investment to get kids in Dixie football. The freshman numbers this year were up significantly to where they could field a legit freshman squad. Injuries played a role in a couple of sophomores getting freshman time this season. The Turkeyfoot coach had the time and availability to be present at youth games… that’s awesome and I love to hear it. How many coaches did Dixie have on staff the last couple seasons? Between JV, Frosh, and Film when would they have the time to do that?
