The QB for west jessamine had 6 rushing TD’s passed for another had close to 600 yards offense thru him alone. Ashland got pic 6 late to put them up 2 scores and was pushing almost 600 yds offense themselves. Other than the pic there was no turnovers and both teams punted twice. Halftime score was WJ up 49-42

Wow I thought Ashland was losing Porter who’s entering college early plus senior graduation this would be a bit of rebuilding year for Ashland. I’ve not been home long enough to hear if there’s something going on at Ashland that’s getting swept under the rug or not. Replacing Porter is some big shoes to fill so I would expect this will be a up and down year but be ready come district and regionals.

Think it’ll be close but if Ironton is firing on all cylinders it will be over by the end of the 3rd quarter otherwise it could be close to the end. Now if the good ole boys at Ironton get to pick the officials like it was when I was growing up you’re got to overcome them too.

If Russell gets it going after 3 loses and knowing Greenup Co etched out win I think Russell will have a chance at the end.

I knew Ashland was going to have drop off talent wise and from watching part of second half from hospital bed I’m glad I wasn’t there. Good luck to Raceland the rest of the year. Ashland has quite a bit to work on if they expect to make any noise in 3A.

My ex SIL’s oldest son is starting QB. I’ve been stuck in Cleveland Clinic first in a week long coma but also on 4 visceral transplant list because multiple health issues. I should be getting out in time to at least see the August games. i will say they’d wanted to move me to hospice in Ashland. As my brother would say I keep everything out of my 56 yr old body

Actually you can fly into Huntington’s tri-state airport same airport that the Marshall plane crashed into the hill side on an extremely foggy night along the big sandy river. Ashland just doesn’t have the hotel space teams would have to stay across the River in Ohio or back towards I-64 the other would be the need to expand the number of teams and the middle school gym doesn’t quite seat nearly the same numbers and coupled with the Alumni gym it’s possible to have 3 game sites in town but I don’t see the powers to be ever considering expanding it.

It’s referred to as Ashland’s Alumni gym but when first opened on March 4, 1927 was called Ashland High School gym. I’m trying to track down some pics of her from over the years and it’s been refurbished and Ashland and West Carter played there back in February. The freshmen use it for their tournaments and when Ashland first switched from 2 junior high schools to a middle school, what had started out as Coles jr high(is the building adjacent to the gym) became Verity middle school my 8th grade year I was at Putnam jr high the last year we had both.

Ashland plays Covington Catholic Thursday evening at 8:30pm I think is the time but it’s a rematch of their regular season meeting at Ashland when Ashland won by double digits but this will be a lot different this time around and should be one of the best first round games of the Sweet 16.

I don’t see them beating Boyd Co by the same numbers as the regular season especially since Russell was able to beat them and Ik Ashland was short handed but it gives a little light to everyone in the 16th region that they’re not unbeatable.

The speed that Porter and Villers play out and always going for the 50/50 balls just caught up to them this year. Hopefully the rest possibly thru district play will have them ready for regionals.
