Russell vs. Raceland series Canceled for now

Featured Replies

I guess maybe Russell sees the writing on the wall for the future because before this past Saturday night Russell had won the last 3 meetings. All 3 wins were by double digits by the Red Devils.

I will be interested in reading Zack Klemmes article in the paper.

Bad optics for Russell.

I came here to literally say the exact same thing. Regardless of Russell's reasons for doing this, the optics are BAD. Raceland is trending up and Russell is not. You say you want to "play good people" and then do this? I'll reserve judgement until an explanation comes to light, but for now, this is not a good look for Russell. Very sad, indeed.

I’m also reserve judgement until an explanation comes to light. I agree with DMC’s post as well.

Everyone knew Raceland was building a championship caliber team that could challenge or win against the larger schools in their area as well for years. Now it's like it hit them right in the face unexpectedly. Grow up and get better, losing to Raceland this season isn't a terrible thing, nor will it be next season, they will beat most everyone on their schedule, if not everyone.

But don't cancel a long standing series over losing a game. Use that game as a building experience going forward this season against everyone else on the schedule, next season as well, regardless of what the outcome of that game may be. Playing good teams makes you're own team better, don't schedule down or cancel a series just because you're "salty." Get better and win, don't just take your ball and go home.

You can’t really “cancel” something that was never scheduled.

Stop the series, cancel the series, suspend the the series. Imo the same thing. Either way you get the point.

I agree with everything you said here, but the only thing I can think of, is this a casualty of the new-ish RPI system. Teams have figured out if you are playing a team below you in classification, and in this case can see that Raceland is getting very good. They can schedule someone else at or above their classification with a more even chance at winning. A side-effect of knowing each other so well.

This says to me don't send your kids to Russell if athletics is something you care about.

Raceland should give Belfry a call.

They have had numerous scrimmages together over the years including this year and Belfry always needs help filling their schedule, especially with teams from a reasonable drive away.

I disagree with that. Russell is very passionate about their athletics and is one of the stronger teams in their region in just about every sport. Football is having down times right now but they will be back.

Russell takes Both Academics and Athletics seriously.
