Nobody should feel great about the draw and no one should hate it. Probably means it’s fair and solid.

Was it a “lack of coaching effort” when Conner lost by 27 to Grant Co???? Come on man, you can question a lot things, but the coaching effort comment may be one of the most ignorant things I’ve read on here. Conner had their number, they beat them. It happens. Next game, which BTW is today. Go Birds!

Conner vs Highlands Prediction/Updates
throwback32 replied to kyag's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Key for Highlands, like always is can they get stops when they need them. Key for Conner will be limiting Vinson's paint touches. Teams that give the Birds trouble are teams that do this with only 1 defender so the others can lock on the 2 shooters. Bigger question is will there be more made 3's or made 2's? I'm taking the Birds 72-68. Should be fun! -
OOOOOOOOOO, someone's gonna be in trouble! LOL, we have been told not to publish yet under threat of exile and publish shaming.

Why? Highlands can score. Teams that give them trouble are teams that can keep up or control the pace, have at least 1-2 exceptional on ball defenders that can contain Vinson and Ryan which allow you to lock on to Moeves and Herald and not give up wide open 3's. Lloyd does not have or did not do any of this. What I was surprised with while watching this game was the lack of post touches, either called or voluntary, for Walker. Especially against a perimeter oriented team like Highlands. I know he is young, but he has to dominate a game like this. -

Last round of games Tuesday, bracket should come out Wednesday or Thursday.

I believe 8th will come down to Pius and Highlands. Those 2 are clearly the top 2 teams.

Good win for the Birds. As close to a complete game on both ends of the floor as I have seen them play. Nathan Vinson is becoming a major problem for opponents. He is going to be a handful next year, already is...- 1 reply

I am a huge Birds backer, as your are it sounds, and that's great. I just am not a fan of WINNING a game, and then picking apart what they did wrong. The scored 106. Had a dude get nearly 50 and we want to find what they didn't do correctly. I am just glad that the program is where it is now. When Listerman and staff got here, the program was in shambles. A decade later, the boys have a state title, are averaging near 80 a game, and winning at a high clip. Will they win the district? IDK... Region? IDK... But I am going to enjoy this group suspect defense and all. Go Birds! -

Cov Cath popped them and are rated in the top 5 on state, they handle most. They lost to Holy Cross and Newport by 7 and both games were 1-2 possession games in the 4th quarter. Convincingly??? Would it matter if they lost to Cov Cath 56-44 so “defensive battle” could be claimed? I love watching Highlands play. The kids love the system. It’s basketball. Games in the 40’s and 50’s are terrible. I would much rather watch the Birds than teams who “play defense” and only score 10-12 points per quarter. I would also argue that the State Championship team of 2 years ago didn’t exactly lock anyone down. -

It amazes me the posts like this. A few years ago people were screaming that Highlands had to score more, make the game faster. Now that the game is fast, fun, exciting to watch AND play.....people complain about the defense. If you want defense and low scoring games, go check out a GMC or GCL game, they are routinely in the 30's. I'll take this all day and twice on Sundays. -

Can only play the style that the personnel can handle. Weyer was already gone when Listerman got here. Hoge wasn’t going to play. Those first few years HHS didn’t have the dudes so the style wasn’t what it is now. The program grew, players were developed, and the style changed to fit more skilled dedicated basketball players. Takes time to build the structures in Rome. -

This is the Highlands 9th grade group’s first loss since 7th grade. Good win for the Colonels, would love to see this matchup again in the freshman tournament.
