  1. I hope that many think that is all the Owensboro has as a team. They are mistaken and will be surprised. You undoubtedly saw the Owensboro Apollo game. If that is the case you'd have seen that there are more cogs in the wheel than those two. I don't think it would be fair to the Quarterbacks all ready on the team to just hand over the reigns to Will Warren. He should have to compete and if he's the better of the three, he starts. Owsley is indeed an explosive player but as I stated in my post, there are a couple others playing also. Look at the final stats for the area leaders, how many offensive players from Owensboro were on the list? Owensboro even had a receiver on the list. Don't believe that it's fair to the other kids on that team for you to say that it's obvious that Warren will start and that Owesly will be the only weapon of the offense. Trust me, though they can be important pieces, they are not the only pieces there. Bad assumption.
  2. Owensboro didn't have the season they expected last year and looking at their record, most would think they were pretty bad. IMO that wasn't the case. Penalties and turn overs. That was the true problem over on frederica. If the coaching staff had gotten a handle on those, the season would have been drastically different. That being said, OHS returns its' entire backfield minus 1. The fullback Sherman Cowherd is lost to graduation. He was pretty much the work horse of the offense (for better or worse) having probably the majority of the carries. Tre'Von Green is one of the quicker players on the team and every time he touches the ball there is the opportunity to take the ball to the house as with Monte Owsley. I've read many comments that the speedster should have had the ball in his hands much more. I can't argue with that seeing how he averaged over 10 yards a carry. Owsley was a swiss army knife for the devils as he returned kicks, played defense and on occasion, punted. Zeke Brown played Quarter Back for the first 9 games before being moved to full back. It was said that the back up, Nick Belcher was the better of the two throwing, but for the throwing that he was asked to do, I don't think that Brown did such a bad job. He has close to the speed of Owsley with another 35 or 40 pounds. When you added the yards that he gained with his legs you have a package that is definitely something that you have to prepare for especially when you throw his back field mates into the mix. O-Line may be an issue for the Devils as they graduated 2 3-year starters and 1 2-year starter. I believe they are making strides toward that, but it remains to be seen. Carson Brooks will more than likely anchor the line as a 2-year starter, Logan Webb will move to center from the guard or tackle position. On the defensive side of the ball, OHS has to get better in the defensive backfield. Bowling Green and Christian exposed their secondary to be a bit behind and Daviess County took advantage of them also. Line backer and D-line might prove to be their strongest areas. Diamond Glover, NT, may be the biggest surprise in the area this season. He made big strides last year. Getting to the weight room, adding consistency to his play and refining his technique could make him one of the top performers in the area, if not the state. Last year owensboro started a freshman and a sophomore as inside line backers and over the course of the season they grew and became better. Depending on what they do offensively with Brown they may have a third very good linebacker (as he started linebacker as a sophomore). In conclusion, Owensboro wasn't as bad as their record would have you believe but their is always room for improvement. With Catholic's former QB Will Warren in the Devil's Den, the competition for signal caller may heat up immensely. When Brown was moved to running back last year, he scored twice against Henderson and again from the position against Bowling Green. Later in that game, he was required to come back in as QB and he engineered a TD drive with Owsley scoring. Whoever wins the QB job will have an array of targets. With those I have already named, there is Tyron Hayden (6'3") who was the main pass catcher last year, and Camron Watkins an up and coming soon to be Junior. Plus I believe Brennon Williams, a 6'5" WR/TE/LB is returning to the team. Several players may have to do double duty so they'd better get their running in. In the past, Owensboro was always concerned with having 22 starters. They need to put their best players on the field, no matter how many starters you have. You need to prepare your best guys to play as long as you need them to play. There is a lot of excitement of Frederica Street among the players and the coaches. The talk of Owensboro Football being down for awhile might be a bit premature.
  3. My suggestion would be do lunch at moonlite. Their buffet is something. I don't know that old hickory has one. That has been the drawback. I usually go through their drive through and go sit down at moonlite. Be careful on the road and enjoy.
  4. I'd do Old Hickory, they might be better now. But moonlight's buffet is still great! You can't loose with either one, IMO.
  5. You'd have more of a food selection on frederica street than you would on west Parrish. Just a thought.
  6. The one (I think sleep in) at the end of the 60 west bypass seems to be ok, the one that used to be the holiday inn (not sure what it is now) was refurbished not too long ago. I'd go with the one on west Parrish at the bypass unless you'd rather try the ones of frederica. How long do you plan to be in the city? I'm sorry that I don't have names for you, I just don't really notice them that much.
  7. Thank you, we have been looking into NCSA. The make an excellent pitch, but I wonder how truly helpful they would be. Gonna have to decide something soon. Your comments have given me something to think about. Thanks again.
  8. Tutt of Owensboro had a relatively good season. She was also named player of the year of the 3rd region. If a school took a chance on her, I believe they would be pleasantly surprised. I wonder how good she could have been on a better team. Make no mistake, she is a talent.
  9. Owensboro looks as though the ship may be righted. Tinsley was in the game and he had some significant minutes. They were clicking on all cylinders. Interested to see if this continues against Catholic Friday. Congrats to Corey Gardner for joining Owensboro's 1000 point club.:thumb:
  10. I wondered why Creamer wasn't in the game at the end myself. A lot of things went on in the second half that I didn't understand. Like Owensboro's response to Apollo's box and 1. Just leave the kid standing in the corner? Oh well. Nice win for the Eagles, carry that energy on to County this friday.
  11. I think Owensboro helped them bomb this game. Ohs played better tonight than they've played in the last two. I hope this carries over to the Catholic game friday. Congrats to Corey Gardner for joining Owensboro's 1000 point club.
  12. If I was one of those coaches, McDaniels should loose my number.
  13. Having seen Coach Wallace in action twice a year, for the past several; I am saying you will get the opportunity to see first hand. Didn't is one thing. Can't is totally different. You might not be talking with such a tone after the next two seasons. Just saying. Bottom line, when Wallace got to Bowling Green they weren't the team they are today. They are the team they are today largely because of the man that will (next season) be patrolling the sidelines for St. X. Tell me what you think then. I've seen it and trust me, you will too. Glad he's in your playground now and gone from mine. Hope you have as much fun as I've had.:sarcastic:
  14. After the playoff loss (blowout) to BG last year, as the teams were walking off the field Coach Wallace walked over to my son and told him that he appreciated the effort he gave in the game. He didn't have to do that. He could have told him good game and moved on. For a true rival to show you that kind of respect after running your butt up and down the field, shows him to be a special type of person. After reading the description of the kind of man Coach Wallace is, I see. Hope he does well and has continued success. Don't know if the next hire will duplicate what you've had over the years, but (I hate to admit this) you and I both know if there is a bump in the road with this, it won't be that bad and it won't be that long.
  15. With that prime time comes prime time heat. I am sure Bowling Green wants to win as badly as Highlands, Cov Cath, Trinity, St. X and several other schools across the state. Coach Wallace set the bar extremely high.
  16. Wow!! Huge for St X and the Purples. Might have just had a power shift out west. Bowling Green will still be good, but will they be as good as they were? I wish Coach Wallace luck.
  17. Track guys get offers, but not like this. Good luck son, choose wisely.
  18. I have no dog in the hunt. But you are using the first 10 years of Coach Wallace's career to determine he shouldn't get the job? The man has coached at Bowling Green for the past 20 years. How many state championships has he won in the LAST 10 years? IMO Those are the ten you should be concerned with. How many has X won in that same time frame? Say what you will, but I don't think the will to win is any stronger at St. X than it is at Bowling Green. Elite programs are elite programs no mater what level. And from what they've done over the last 10 years, if they aren't elite they are awfully close whether you choose to admit it or not. (Trust me, I am not a Bowling Green/Coach Wallace fan).
  19. Interesting game. Apollo might be coming around at the right time. They could be ready to upset County in the district. One thing I don't know is was the win more of what Apollo did, or what Owensboro did not do? Either way, it was a good win for the Eagles.
  20. It was my understanding that Mr Football was the best football player in the state, not 1A-6A. The best player in the state. If I am wrong fine. When I have heard Mr. Football, that's what I thought, but I'm old. :( Also, I could be wrong but I believe the winner does get something stating that the person won the "Award".
  21. Owensboro got back on track against Breck. I am anxious to see what happens against apollo Friday. I hope the game has all the intensity of previous years. Should be good.
  22. They need to find a receiver to replace peters. He was your Mr. do everything. You have a very good running back, who gained 900+ yards last year (led the area in rushing). I believe the defense is where Apollo is going to need the most work. Coachhawk needs to walk the halls and grab some of the guys walking those halls and get them out for football. You do have athletes in the building. There is a freshman on the basketball team; if he isn't playing, he should be (possible TE, DE). I think they might take a step back from last year but they have a valid shot at being much much better than 2-9 which is where they've been for several years before last year. I wish coachhawk much success (except against owensboro), he does have some serious work ahead of him. Win the coaches, win the players, win the parents, win the administration, just win baby!!!!!! I believe that once you turn the corner on the culture, you won't have a bunch of kids leaving their schools to come play at Apollo, but you will keep the kids that you would loose in other years.
  23. I would venture to guess that if Coach Brohm became the coach of U of L or UK that there would be more KY kids on the roster. What does he see that the other coaches don't? You can say need but look at the number of receivers Purdue has. The last two years he's taken at least two that I know of, two of them from Kentucky. I believe Moore could play for Kentucky no matter who or how many receivers they have. Same with Louisville. But that's just my opinion. Did either school even offer? IDK.
