I hope NewCath can run the ball early and often. That’s what opens things up for Miles. If the run game staggers I think it will be a tight one. Lickert is very good about getting the ball into his skill players hands and letting them run.

I think both teams are going to be talented and fast. I think for game 1 of this season the difference is who makes fewer mistakes. If FD coaches have these young players in position to play a clean game they can pull off an upset. I’ve seen Highlands have some head scratching, “ what are they doing?” early moments the last few seasons. And they usually figure it out by week 3. So I think this one is still close with maybe a kick return or pick-6 from either team being a difference maker.

From consistently winning programs, you always hear about everybody being on the same page and going the same direction. I wonder since Cooper is such a large school with a lot of parents who have money and put a lot of time into their kids who think that their kid is better than someone else’s kid. Didn’t we just hear about this going on with the football program too? I think that speaks to the administration not backing the coaches 100% and letting people get into their ears. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but as Shannon Sharpe says,” I see, better than I hear” And what I see from both the football and basketball programs are winners with good talented hard working kids so I don’t necessarily believe what I’m hearing that culture is not a good fit. And I think there are a lot of parents who want to be a part of winning programs and want their kid to be the star, and look to blame someone else when they are not.

I get the refs were trying to maintain order, but the second video to me doesn’t warrant a technical foul. But if the coach saw continued escalation against his team, I’m sure he felt that his players were in a no-win situation and I appreciate the sentiment of him taking them off the court to protect these young men on both teams from escalating tensions. In my experience, it’s possible one of the players on either team might have made a mistake in the name of “protecting” his teammates.

What a great turnaround season Lexington Catholic is having. They really seemed to have figured things out from the beginning of the year with how fast their defense can be.

Woodford’s announcer was upset at Highlands for throwing the ball in the 4th quarter. But I have 2 thoughts on this: 1. Highlands was not doing a great job at slowing down Woodford’s offense at that point. 2. It’s the playoffs, you do whatever you have to do to win. Good teams have lost games from going too conservative late in games. Do I think they still would have won by running the ball? Probably. But you do whatever you need to do to move on to the next round.

I can't figure this one out which makes me think it should be close and could go either way. Am I missing some X-factor on either side? In 1A a stand-out athlete can be THE difference maker. Should I be looking for someone to break out and lead the way for either team? My guess is with the home team having the crowd behind them getting the win.

I'll take Campbellsville by 2 scores. I look at the Ballard Memorial & Bethlehem mutual scores and just don't see it being a tight game.

The defense really showed up tonight after some difficult games earlier this year.
