I would disagree with some of the comments regarding a potential Sam Hubbard hire. I believe there is some connection to the current NewCath administration. I don’t believe he would treat it as a stepping stone hire. Having played in a high level program at Moeller I think he would be a great leader and would continue to have Coach Dave Schneider for the offense. I think we have seen success from former players throughout the state. While NewCath is an established program I think with the new facilities I think you’ll see renewed growth in the program. Just my two cents.

I think hiring someone young with ties to the school is a great hire and a fantastic opportunity for their program. I think they were looking for stability and longevity and someone like this could certainly provide that. Obviously a home run example, but you could look at is former Coach Schneider from NCC. He was hired at 38 and stayed for 44 years with many wins. As someone rooting for Brossart’s success I hope something similar for Coach Martin and the Mustangs.

I’ve sat in the stands at Highlands watching their pregame roll call of names and schools they attended and often wondered in recent years how many players from the diocese playing backups at Highlands would have played at NewCath in a different scenario. A dynamic coach might sway that, it might not.

Their last 5 games Newport has given up a combined 25 points and won the turnover battle each game. If they can continue to attack like last game where they had 25! TFL and 3 sacks it will be very interesting to see how the game develops. However I do believe the opposite side of the ball could be Newport’s downfall as I don’t know if they’ll be able to score enough points. I think if they do win it’s because you see a pick 6 or kick return for a touchdown.

Since it was mentioned in another thread, I’ll mention it here to gauge responses. If Brian Weinrich is out at Campbell County. Would he be a good fit here? Would the stakeholders want him at Scott?
