Question for the experts
I'm glad someone is talking about this. This is a good question. I saw this final score on facebook the other day and started a thread on it... (no comments) Impressive for a JV game IMO. I know that Ashland puts TE's out wide along with running backs. The question I have is did the line give him that much time to throw, did he just get the ball out of his hand that quick, or did he roll out or check down? I was surprised he wasn't used in Friday's game. I've had conversations with numerous people who thought the same. I would think along the lines of the posts mentioned above. 5-6 for varsity games is about average. Again, surprised this many was used for a JV game. Job well done by your grandson. Obviously he can spread it around.

Russell/Greenup County Updates
Sounds like a great game... if you're a defensive coordinator.

Ashland 30 Raceland 6 (JV)
Saw this on Facebook. Anyone have the particulars? Looks like a solid win for the cats after last night's disappointment.

Raceland 20 Ashland 13
I'd like to congratulate Raceland in a hard fought, well played game and the win. Ashland made a lot of mistakes and Raceland took advantage of them. Line of scrimmage was dominated by the Rams. Ratliff was running for his life all night. Cobur is a very good back. It did hurt not having Roberts in there. As well, Brown will make a difference when he returns. Our offense was just stagnant all night. You have to move the ball. On defense, you have to get out on third downs. It will come. I wish Raceland a good year. Well get better.

Raceland @ Ashland Predictions 8-26
I heard he got injured during the Jackson scrimmage. They said he hasn't practiced since then. I didn't see him working out at Meet the Cats last night. He was just hanging around the coaches. I hope they are just resting him so he can play tonight. If not, it could be a big blow.

Raceland @ Ashland Predictions 8-26
Been waiting for this day for a long time now. Go Cats!! Take care of the ball and take care of business. This will be a tough one to win. A lot of people aren't giving us a chance in this one. Let's prove them wrong. Should be a packed house tonight, always is when playing the Rams. Also looking forward to see Raceland's new helmets. Good luck to both teams and I pray there are no injuries. Stay safe and hydrated out there tonight boys.

Raceland @ Ashland Predictions 8-26
Well, going along with my previous thread about taking care of the ball... I got to see some of the Jackson scrimmage yesterday. The first 5 series, we had 4 turnovers. Going to have to clean that up a lot if we expect to win on Friday.

Raceland @ Ashland Predictions 8-26
First off, let me say that I am very happy for this day to finally arrive. It's been too long. Friday night Putnam Stadium will be pack with two great fan-bases in attendance. This should be a good game. Saying that, I saw some film of the West Carter game today. I think that Raceland's definitive front might give Ashland's line some problems. It seemed that they were in West's backfield all night. Of course I will be picking my Cats, but this game could get out of hand if Ashland doesn't take care of the ball and the line doesn't allow the skill players to do what they do. It seems Ashland's secondary is coming along. The way Raceland threw the ball is going to be a good test for our defensive backfield. Go Cats!!!

Not sure. From some of the posts on this tread, probably not. However, with his size, he might make a good tight end.

Paintsville RB Kent Phelps Verbally Commits to Wofford
Good stuff. Great for one of the local boys. I'll be keeping up with his season up here on the north end of 23. Good luck this season.

West should complete for a while, but Raceland has too much for them to handle. Rams by 20.

Ashland vs Spring Valley (WVa) Scrimmage
I was very pleased the the performance of the Tomcats. What has been said numerous times, our line play is what needs mots work. I don't know what they feed those boys over in Wayne co, but whatever it is, we need a truck load of it over here. Qb play, for the most part, was solid. Backs ran well and recievers caught passes. We got better as the day went on. Ratliff has the jump pass down. Adkins looked good throwing it as well.

Ashland 2016
Well, I just received word that Brown is back at Ashland. Now, they said he was at practice, not sure if he is cleared and has all transcripts in, but it will get very interesting if he is back in the maroon and white.

Ashland vs Spring Valley (WVa) Scrimmage
9:00 AM Saturday @ Putnam Stadium. Spring Valley is consistently one of the best programs in West Virginia. Last year Ashland edged the Timberwolves in this matchup. What are your thoughts and what will you be looking for? Is this scrimmage even relevant, why or why not?

Ashland 2016
I was told that Robinson is not playing football so he can focus on basketball.

Ashland 2016
What I've come to gather is that the feature backs are going to be Roberts and Coburn. Taylor and Tackett will split time as well. Freshman Hester will also get some time in the backfield. Roberts is a bruising back that is very athletic and can pick up some tough yards. Coburn has put on some muscle over the summer and has good speed. The other three are small backs with speed.

Raceland's new helmets
I like it. It looks good and it portrays the past, present and future of the community. Way to represent. Good luck this year, other than the 26th...
