Pville Tiger Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Paintsville RB Kent Phelps has verbally committed to the Wofford Terriers as a RB. Kent is the only RB Wofford offered in the 2017 class, in a run heavy system! Kent is a phenomenal athlete in multiple sports at PHS and is expected to have a huge senior season! Great opportunity for another kid from Paintsville!
Wireman Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 I was at Wofford a few weeks ago and they have wonderful football facilities (also the home of Panthers summer camp).
Harry Doyle Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Wofford loves Kentucky, and that says something being that they are in South Carolina. They currently have six guys from our state on the roster. Mike Ayers (HC) is from Georgetown & also played there, then got his coaching start at Georgetown as well. Their Defensive Coordinator is former Danville great & Wofford All-American, Nathan Fuqua (who has been there since signing with Wofford in '99). He's going to be getting an Ivy League type education, to go along with playing for one of the best in 1-AA...what a huge honor.
Youngbloods Posted August 17, 2016 Posted August 17, 2016 Good stuff. Great for one of the local boys. I'll be keeping up with his season up here on the north end of 23. Good luck this season.
Pville Tiger Posted August 17, 2016 Author Posted August 17, 2016 As Harry stated above, Kent has aspirations of being a MD, so the school is a perfect fit! Kent is the highest of high character kids! Links to 2015 below: Junior Season Highlights - Kent Phelps highlights - Hudl
Big Five -0- Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Congrats to Kent Phelps. One heck of an athlete. Good luck for your future.
Tony Cavalier Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Great news for Kent. Always been a fan of his style of play and he is probably one of the most humble and level headed kids you will find anywhere to boot. Best of luck to him at Wofford. It is also my understanding that one of his good friends, Gunner Slone from JC, is starting to gain some traction with Wofford as a DL. Would be great to see those two play together.
Bac2369 Posted August 18, 2016 Posted August 18, 2016 Congrats.. Hope to see as many eastern Kentucky athletes successful at the next level.
