Ashland needs to take care of the ball and drive it down the field like they did in the 3rd qtr vs Raceland. If our defense stays on the field like it did in the 2nd qtr, we're in trouble. Defensively, our secondary hasn't been that great last year as well as the first game this year. We really need to take care of business during practice and get our guys in a position to succeed. I think this is something we are going to have to work on for the next couple of years. Raceland continually burnt the DB's in the JV game as well. I think our run defense will take care of business Friday. They flew to the ball all night. Our secondary is what will tell the tale.

So true. I was surprised that after the pick, ashland never threw the ball again (not that they didn't try, I guess). I've seen enough to know that Dowdy, though he doesn't have the strongest arm in the world, can get the job done in the passing game. Practice can only reveal so much in a throwing situation. Therefore, game situations, he should be able to work through it, as someone posted on another thread, and take care of business.

No hotdogs on the home side open concession end either. The children were not happy... :(

I'd say that we need to get their early Friday. GW always has a good showing from Charleston, and with what we have, I'm sure anyone who wasn't there last night will be out in force to support the T-Cats to complement those that did show up. Another packed Putnam Stadium. Not going to pick a winner just yet, I want to see a couple of practices this week and look at some film on GW.

Great game, great atmosphere. Here are my 2 cents: Raceland came in very confident and composed. It looked like they had a game under their belt. Running game needs to get going to complement the passing game. That being said, their QB, being a junior, is already developed. Good checks downs from what I noticed. Able to throw a receiver open. Defensively they need to get a few mor three and outs. They were on the field way too much in the third qtr. Ashland came in hyped up. They need to check themselves and do away with all the stupid fouls. They were very undiscipline. Baker was the best athlete on the field. I liked the way they subbed in and out offensively and defensively. I really think that helped every one remain fresh. Baker might have been used a bit much on the definceive side of the ball. The oline did a great job opening holes. Somebody came on a trap block and kills a definceive end to spring Baker on his 85 yard td run. The backs need to do a better job of picking up blitzing line backers. Defence flew to the ball all night. Secondary needs work. GW will complete some of the passes Raceland didn't. Ashland needs to chose a QB and stick with him. My opinion, Dowdy did the better job. I feel he commanded the offense a little better. Only one pass attempt, I would like to see him throw the ball more. Roberts was open in the flat, it looked like Dowdy just didn't see the LB. Ratliff looked a little out of sorts, but settled down a bit in the second half. I just think he might have tried to do a little too much. One of his runs that got called back on a holding call, looked like he was supposed to hand the ball off on a counter, but pulled it instead catching the lineman off guard and having him try to redirect he defensive tackle. JMO I will say there were a couple of things I didn't agree with the coaching staff. To me, at the end of the first half, if you want to score, either call a time out or run to the wide side of the field where Baker can work. If you don't want to try and score, take a knee so no one has the chance of getting hurt. Ashland and Raceland both benifited from this game. Both will do well and go far in the post season. If Ratliff is the starter, I see Dowdy getting time at slot receiver.

That's a great idea. I've noticed, while driving by the field, the baseball players have been doing a lot of work on it. They have sodded the base paths, looks good. All I know is that the outfield is looking torn up from the football team. Hopefully, this will come to fruition and they won't have this problem any more. Hope things go well for the baseball team this year.

Yes, we should have enough to keep people guessing. Though he'll get a lot of the carries, Baker won't be the only threat. We have plenty of options to go to.

I went to a practice a couple of years ago for a local reunion game. Everyone was so excited to be there, we didn't even stretch (bad idea) within a few min of running passing routs, my calf exploded. Needless to say, I didn't participate in any more outings, let alone the actual game. :no:

Heard this weekend that Ashland may be putting turf down in the outfield to allow the football team to practice there without destroying the field. There has been much debate about the football team practicing in the outfield since the baseball field was built. Any thoughts?

I gave my opinion of this game on another thread, however watching the Ram/West game I'm changing my score a bit. Ashland 38 Raceland 21

Good game Rams. Really going to have to work on some things to beat your next opponent. However, congrats.

My philosophy is, If you want to be the best, you need to play the best. Even if they do get beat down, they know that the team is on another level than they are. I don't believe in moral victories, however if they hold their own and score on them, the confidence that will be gained will go a long way. Watching film will be another big advantage to playing someone of their caliber. JMHO

I love this… Can do nothing but help the team prepare for playoffs. I wish more teams would do this kind of thing. I wish Johnson Central all the success in the world, except one particular district game and other in the playoffs.

Apparently he hurt it during Tuesday's practice. Not sure how long he will be out. Yesterday he struggled to pitch the ball to a running back while running drills. He seemed to try and tough it out for a while, then he took off his shoulder pads for a bit. I'll give it to him, after a while, he put them back on and worked on hand offs in group drills. I don't think he threw the ball any more that day. However, if he is hurt, the best thing to do is make sure you're 100% before the season opener… I saw a number of starters not working out yesterday, O'brian being one of them, in t-shirt and shorts. I'm glad we don't play tomorrow… :eek:

I wonder if this has anything to do with Dowdy hurting his shoulder. Surprised Roberts didn't get the nod. If this is the case, let's see what happens.

I would love for the "good ones" to take more of a roll at the high school level, unfortunately, it is what it is. I'm just afraid you are correct and they will get snatched up by another local school, and we will again lose out on some great coaches with unbelievable experience.

Are any of the Bowling Green kids playing in Williamsport, PA? That might be some good additions in a few weeks.

That is the key, and right now there is only one team in the middle school that is getting. The other, not at all. It needs to start with getting the "right" people in the correct spots. One group of coaches at the middle school level have played at the highest level (NFL), not so much with the other team. JMO

Obviously it can be done, but who would want to put their team in that situation? To be comfortable, I'd like to have at least 20 to fill out a freshman roster, therefore you could mix and match players here and there. This, in turn, would allow maximum potential for success. JMHO.

I don't know what else they would do, unless not to have a freshman team and allow them to play up on the jv level. I don't know either. I'm sure they have something in mind, I guess that why they are the coaches and we are on this thread.
