We are on the same page that effective Wing-T offenses either add a passing element or and option element to complement the base package. What I think gets missed most in this "offensive system" debate is the fact that basically any system can work. The keys are that the offense must have the ability to attack all parts of the defense, they must establish a base play that they can hang their hat on (and that play can change from year to year based on players), they have answers to situational football, and the coach knows it well enough to solve problems when (not if) they arise. If a system can answer these basic questions, it can help a team win games. It does not matter if it is a spread, option, RPO, power, Wing-T, or hybrid offense. The offense also must be able to do what the team needs to win. Sometimes that is just not screwing up and relying on a dominant defense, and sometimes it is outscoring an opponent if your defense cannot stop the opponent.

Not sure if I agree with this one. Delaware incorporated the option into their offense in the 90's, and it made a positive impact. I agree with you about the Wing-T being series football. Buck series (20), belly series (80), counter series (30), and, yes, option series (40). I think the Wing-T could work now as well or better than it ever did due to defenses and defensive coaches having less experience going against it. For some teams, I think it would be much more effective than trying to run a spread offense without the players to do so. Few things look uglier. For many teams, it is not really about a championship but being as good as your particular school can be. Offenses like the Wing-T and/or the Flexbone could be the equalizer for many schools who continue to try to put the square spread peg into the round hole. Before you can be great, you first have to be good. Some of these "old-school" offenses could help some schools be more competitive.

The difference is how the defense must play when the QB is under center. The hardest under center play to defend in short yardage is the QB sneak. The the QB under center, the defense must commit lots of resources to stop the quick hitters in the A gap. When they do that, they open up stuff other places, like off-tackle. The defense can line up differently when the QB is in gun or pistol.

I think for it to work for someone other than the head coach to call the offensive plays, there has to be great communication between the coach and the coordinator during the game. The OC can call the plays, but the head coach should manage the game. For example, the head coach should let the coordinator know if they are playing for a field goal or going for it. When do they get into 4-down territory and so forth.

Ask St. X about how hiring a former NFL player with no coaching experience worked out for them.

Below is a link to the CJ article. It basically states that Trinity had a player go down with a heat injury. According to the article, they botched the handling of the heat issue and additionally had some inappropriate conduct by a coach in dealing with it. GREAT idea. Many other county schools should do this or some other initiative to recognize those who have come before them. Especially schools that were created by a merger. As an example, Hardin County schools are terrible at this. They make little or no mention to the schools that created Central Hardin, John Hardin, and North Hardin. They are missing a good opportunity. Kudos to you, Chief, for having done this.

I am not saying it has been handled 100% correctly, but the handling of the Glaser to Wolford transition was about as bad as it could get. It is one thing to announce that a coach is in his last year. It is entirely another thing to put the successor in place during the season. The players and coaches on the 2025 team, especially the Seniors, deserve the focus to be on their season.

I hope they wait to announce the new coach until after the 2025 season in fairness to the 2025 players and coaches. This coming season should be about the 2025 team. From what I understand, it created a weird vibe and dynamic the last time they named a coach while an existing coach was still on the job.

Coach Reed is a very good coach and even better person. He will do a great job at OC. Great hire!

John Proctor was the head coach between Devries and French. Proctor was an internal hire. Coincidentally enough, he came back to French's staff as OC after a one-year hiatus after giving up the head coaching position. He was the OC for a few years before becoming strictly the Athletic Director. He was a good coach.

My point is the fact that a state-wide radio show and a Twitter feed commented on the situation as a reporting of facts without confirmation. They said as much. If one is to comment on something like this, they should verify it before releasing it as public knowledge. I don't know if it happened or not. If it did, then it should be dealt with. But that is not my point. Be correct before releasing information. Here is what Lou Holtz, while he was the head coach at Notre Dame, said about being first: - "First we will be best. Then we will be first." I think an entity should have the BEST information (a.k.a. the facts) instead of simply releasing it FIRST. I realize this is an "old-school" way of doing things, but, in this case, it is still the right way to do thing.

It is ridiculous for Twitter feeds or radio shows to report stuff like this without verification. Once it is out on those places, it becomes fair game for commentary on forums such as this. I have been on record plenty of times on this forum with opinions of things that Wallace does that I do not agree with. However, I have a problem when sources like KSR and other various Twitter feeds that have a wide audience report things based on conjecture, innuendo, and rumors. Wallace, or any other coach, does not deserve that. The race to be first has causes quite a bit of inaccurate reporting in many different areas. One of the reasons I have so much respect for The Guru and BluegrassPreps is the fact that if he reports it, I can trust it.

Think of it this way: Yes. Belichick did not win a Superbowl without Brady. But he did win 6 with him with 3 runner-ups. In the same time frame, Indianapolis won 1 Superbowl and had 1 runner up with Peyton Manning. It is really tough to win consistently in the NFL, even with a great QB. Yes, having Brady helped. But many other great coaches with great QB's did not win like he did. Shula did not win one with Marino, for example. So the narrative that so many have of minimizing Belichick's accomplishments just because he had Brady are really short-sighted. I agree with you about his limited experience with recruiting, NIL, transfer portal, etc. But neither does anyone else, including college coaches who have coached in college for decades. It is a new era, which no one truly understands. But Belichick does have experience navigating a payroll, evaluating players on other similar teams, and evaluating players in a level below him. Way more experience than most college coaches. When I first heard of him looking at UNC, I thought "no way." But after looking at it more thoroughly and objectively, I don't see why it can't work.
