My source tells me that, yes, Coach Mo is going to ride off into the sunset. Great career, but even a better man. Hate to see coaches with his character hang up the whistle but I understand.

Might be so.  His son was a senior this year so probably a good time to retire.  I've always thought Meade Co. would be an excellent job.  6A high school that is the only high school in the county and a supportive fan base with nice facilities.

As a man and coach, they don't make them any better than Coach Mo for sure & like you said, with his son being a senior plus the fact that he has 35 years in on KTRS? He's about at the age/years in where he'd be losing money so to speak by staying in.

As far as Meade? One horse town, with great support (community and administration) & fantastic facilities. The only downfall? They are one of, if not the smallest schools in 6A and I say that not because of the "6A!!?? Lions and Tigers and Bears" factor that gets thrown around (every class has it's big 3 or 4 now). Being one of "the last few in" as it pertains to any school, any class makes it an often steeper hill than it already is for most.

However, in terms of being in a region to have a real shot in at least making a finals (region) appearance? Things worked out better for them the next two years than they did the last. Meade has always historically been in Region 1 of their class(es). If it stays that way in the future? It's a very good job. A fun one. You have a fighting chance to make some noise in November. If not? Tough, tough road with their proximity to L'ville/Jeff Co.

I agree that this job is attractive from most metrics.  Only show in town; 6A; brand new stadium/field; its own radio station; pretty good wrestling program to send kids from/to; not really competing with another dominant sport; growing county population due to DoD transfers at nearby Ft. Knox; favorable district; relatively low land cost; good access to outdoor recreation on the river and Otter Creek; supportive fanbase.  You can tell good community support by the number of small business that pay $250 or whatever to put a sign up at the game and Meade has a ton.

Coach Mofield did a great job. After they were moved into the difficult District 3 in 6A  got a chance to watch Meade a little more. Well coached, played hard, and had some solid parts for a really good team and look to have great facilities. Overall, need a few athletes and depth to win consistently against the likes of ST X, Manual, etc.  Almost beat Great Crossing, who was in the semis, and saw where they had over 400 yards offense against ST. X.  Believe if they had stayed in their old district they would have probably gotten to the regional finals.  If they stay in the same district this job will be tough, if they end up back in their old district and region this looks to be a solid job in 6A.

They move to 6A-District 2 next year along with Central Hardin, Daviess County, and South Warren.

Great coach and even better man.

Heard rumors of a former player as a potential replacement for this job  but nothing for certain.

I think this is a good job for all of the reasons already mentioned.  Tons of support! Really nice facilities!

Is there anyone on staff that would be a front runner for this job? Does Meade have a tradition of hiring in house?

Hard to say on that last part. Obviously Coach Mo was internal & took over in 04 after Coach French left for Lincoln County.

Coach French left Mercer County for Meade County in 87 or maybe it was 89?

Did Coach Devries go up until when Coach French was hired? Or were there some(one) in between that was maybe internal? I know Coach Haywood (Phillip) was with Coach Devries as an assistant in the 70’s before he left to take his first (and only job outside of Belfry) at Prestonsburg.

Whats crazy, while refreshing to think about with Meade County is the fact that this is just going to be their 3rd HC in almost 40 years.

Blake Powers wouldn't just be a homerun, he'd be a walk off grand slam in game 7 in the bottom of the 9th at Yankee Stadium to beat them.

But, to be able to get him from his current job as the RB's coach at Army + all the coin and potential growth in the college ranks? That would be hard to give up.

....then, again? So is home.

John Proctor was the head coach between Devries and French.  Proctor was an internal hire.  Coincidentally enough, he came back to French's staff as OC after a one-year hiatus after giving up the head coaching position.  He was the OC for a few years before becoming strictly the Athletic Director.  He was a good coach.
