That has to be the headline.....it couldn't be a school of 350 gave a school of 4 to 5 times that size all they could handle. Mayfield actually was in the drivers seat to WIN the game with the final possession in OT. McCracken was never in a position to finish Mayfield off...Mayfield was and chose to be bold ....Mayfield won that game for all intents and purposes....of course the score showed one point deficit for Mayfield but the Mayfield boys won what was really at stake in that game...Mayfield chose to win it or lose it..McCracken never had the chance the entre game to make that choice.:no:

Give me a break. Jack Haskins was the worst actor on that field last night and it was the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Coach Morris was trying to protect his players! The helmet to helmet hit on the Mayfield reciever was REDICULOUS and a Mayfield player said that he heard a ref say to the other ref that they were going to be in trouble for the no call on that. That whole crew should never be allowed to call another game. They missed more calls than they got right, 2 to 1 and it cost Mayfield kids injuries.

Most of the trash talkers are the ones that dont play the game.

Not sure where you got that conclusion. McCracken beat four 6A schools and two 5A schools in their first year. In addition they beat a large Dyer Co. Tennessee school that would qualify as 6A. They lost their last game to a 6A school after their two best defensive lineman were injured. Next time back up your conclusion with facts! The fact is, I said consistently. One year doesnt make consistently.

I clearly have more faith in this team than do most other Cardinal fans posting here. Joe Morris is twice the coach that Jack Haskins is and that counts for quite a bit. If they win it will be because they are able to simply put more athletes on the field than Mayfield, because of course, they have as many students as West Ky tecnical college. But for most teams around here, beating 1A Mayfield has turned into their State Championship because thats as close as most will ever get, a chance to play a team that has actually spent time in Bowling Green. I wouldnt renew this series if I was Coach Morris. i would make McCracken earn a reputation beating larger schools consistently which they cant do.

I can also think of a game where Wyatt just had to call Josh Forrest number on the last play of the game and Mayfield goes down at home. He didnt and Mayfield won...we shouldnt have.

Same was said when Jonathan Jackson left Mayfield, we clearly "werent as good" that next year either without him but were one touchdown away from a pefect 15-0 last year and State Champs and Im not sure that determination can be made off one game especially not a 45-0 win....Just saying....

I agree that the merger has "brought new players (plural)' to the area...As long as Haskins keeps getting kids from Massac Co, Tennessee etc etc then they will stay tough. McCracken Co cant put out enough athletes on its own to be competitave in 6A, it has got to have the transfers from out of state or the city.

Alexander is a heck of a defender and was laying the wood on Saturday night. Interesting sidenote, Alexander and Marshall Bacon for Mayfield are cousins. Should be fun.:banana:

I suspect that Mayfield would prefer to have Cash Jones under center, the pressure that will be coming at him he will likley not handle nearly as well as Hughes would. in order for those recievers to be effective they will have to get thrown a good ball, which wont be easy with Mayfields defense. Truth told, Alexander is best reciever the Mustangs have but they dont use him like they should.

I love the fact that the Mustangs were chanting "we want mayfield" after the PT game. You know you are the cream of the crop when a 6A school is chanting about a 1A school. Go Mayfield!!

Ill take Mayfield by 6. Bottom line...outside of Jones I was not impressed by the Mustangs last night. Mayfield keeps the chains moving...Mustangs get rattled and Mayfield pulls it off. Coach Morris has Haskins number and is a much better coach than Haskins...coaching can overcome a small deficit in athletes.

Interesting. Not sure how a 3 man rotation allows anyone to get in a groove but seems to me they are going to saddle Crider and run him in the ground. So defensively, everyone key on Crider, force him back to the middle, pressure the QB and just assume the risk on any of three young or mediocre QBs completing a pass.

Rogers is smart and will have those guys better prepared than one might think. Haskins needs to win this game and given the right situation, overconfidence on his part may creep in (ala Steve Spurrier). Combine that with a flair for his mismanagement of the final seconds in big games and things could get interesting. Gonna go with the upset here. PT by 6.:sssh:

I read an article in the Paducah Sun about the QB battle at Graves Co. I didnt see the Barnard kids name mentioned in the mix. He was the QB at Marshall County last year and a senior this year, pretty tall if I remember correctly. Is he going to Graves or did I hear that wrong?

I believe the 2013 team wins as well. I do think it would be a close game. We may actually have more depth and speed this year in the backs position than in we did in 2013. We have a power runner too in Hernandez to get the hard couple of yards when needed. Considering the half of the reciever group is the same as last year (Bacon/Kennemore) who had great games and big critical yards when needed are still there and battle tested. Tucker that played for Reed last year looks like a force again this year. I think the only real pivot point that gives the 2013 group a slight edge is the QB being experienced but as for overall speed and athletic ability, this 2014 group is dead even. We have alot of chain moving players on this team. Of the recievers, the slot reciever group will be the chain movers this year. They are talented and tough and will be the easy quick reads for the young QB, the deep ball will not like happen as easy this year as it did last. Run game and short chain moving pass game will be our bread and butter this year...oh dont forget about the kicker Herndon..what a weapon! I believe after all that, I say it would go to OT and 2013 would win.

I thought we looked pretty good. I am very encouraged with this group. QB threw some pretty nice balls...hurt not having the Bacon kid in...with his height... He will make a good target for Arnett because he will be easy for him to see and with his height, he can bail Arnett out on throwing in to tight coverage deep like last night by being able to go up high and catch some of those. Kennemore and Tucker looked good...Tyler will he dangerous if he gets a step on any defender...blazing speed. Line play had some mental mistakes that will shore up pretty quickly with more practice. All in all I like where the QB is and when all the parts get on the field...i like our chances late making anothe run to Bowling Green

I think its a good way to break the monontany of practice and let the kids get closer to game conditions and shake off the cobwebs from last year. Im not sure I would put much more stock in them than that. Good icebreaker for new inexperienced kids. Experienced kids and kids that were going to be needed to carry the team, not even sure I would play them to guard against early injuries. I see them like the preseason NFL games...evaluate your new guys and dont risk injury to your go to's.

I would have to say that Mayfield is #1 still. Like someone said earlier in another thread, to be the man you have to beat the man.:ylsuper: I think Mayfield is a wash on playmakers lost versus playmakers gained and/or matured over last year. In fact, I may give a slight edge to this Mayfield team on playmakers over last years team with regard to numbers of new starters with speed or kids who have gotten quicker from last year. The defense by all accounts will be BETTER than last year if you can believe that. I think Mayfield's tough schedule positions the team better for playoffs as well.

Guard play will be scary quick and cause some bigger opponents some real problems. Marshall Bacon coming off of being Mayfield's leading scorer last year should be in the top 3-4 players in the region and continue to dominate. Bacon has the ability to take over games. Nick Felts will add the 3 point threat once again. 3 starters (Bacon/ Kennemore/Bright) will likely once again play football until late Nov or December. Should be a great team and contend for all A classic. If this team is allowed to run and use their speed...should be a fun year of basketball in Mayfield.

What noone has discussed about that game is MAYFIELD HAD 26 RUSHING YARDS ON 18 CARRIES. This is a testament to Hazard's dominance that game up front and their game planning. 26 rushing yards from a very injured top RB in the state. He ran into defensive walls all year and ran through them....Ill say it again, they caught Mayfield they way they had to in order to win that game. IMO
