What a great game. Gutsy call my Mayfield at the very end. Nothing to hang their heads about.

Great effort by Mayfield against a top notch 6A team. The Cardinals are still the team everyone else in 1A is chasing.

The Cards leg were pretty much gone on that last play.. Just no drive at the point of attack, but, still a tremendous game regardless which side you root for. Much respect earned by both teams. Great comeback after getting down 17-0.. Could have easily hung there heads and it gotten ugly, but, that's not in the Cardinals vocabulary.. they never quit and quite frankly, outplayed the Mustangs after the 1st quarter. But, McCracken is a big, strong team with athletes all over the field and earned everything they got..

We'll my wife is cooking crow for tomorrow, I underestimated my cardinals. What a great job this young team did. Was behind by 17 TWICE and fought back with a chance to win. Had they not shot themselves in the foot so much in the first half might have pulled it out. GREAT job cards and this young team is gonna get better and better. I was wrong snake!

Fantastic game from both teams! Instant classic. Whoever thought Mayfield was down is crazy! Bright was a beast! Hope all the injured kids are okay.

Sounds like things haven't changed much out west. Mayfield will be very tough.

He has a minor sprained ankle. Should be okay.

What a game. One of the best high school games I have seen. I definitely underestimated Mayfield and overestimated McCracken. Some observations. Mayfield's number 22 was the best player on the field. He runs as hard for a small guy as you can see. McCracken simply could not tackle him in the second half. McCracken's tackling overall was not good. So many missed tackles. Pooh Jones is an absolute stud and if he is seriously hurt it is a huge blow. Not only does he run the ball well, but he is a dominant defender also.

 

Mayfield is as well coached a team as you will ever see. What a fantastic job the coaches for Mayfield did adjusting at halftime. I will say I think Mayfield's head coach spent as much time on the field yelling at the referees as many of the players did playing. I was taken aback a little by how active the Mayfield coaches were with the referees. And that referee crew was an embarrassment and were bad both ways. The head referee lost control of the game in the second half.

 

Finally, McCracken has gone 2 and 0 against two historical programs and it really doesn't feel like they have played as well offensively yet as they did last season. The QB switching steals rhythm in my opinion. They need to pick a QB and stick with it in the coming weeks. I thought some really questionable coaching decisions by the McCracken staff made the game closer than it probably should have been but in the end they made the plays.

The officiating was abysmal at best. They seemed unsure of every call. It should not cause a 10 minute delay to mark off a holding penalty. Ridiculous.

The officials literally iced the kicker on what would have been the game winner at the end of regulation. I still have no idea what they were doing.
