Well, for those who weren't at that game, I'm sorry! That was a great one. I'm really proud of these kids for not ever giving up. I can now say the 2 best games I've ever seen in person have had a Bright in the backfield. All you mayfield fans probably remember the 95 hoptown game. I will also say this, without jones on the field McCracken is not near as dangerous. He is a big time player that makes Hughes even more of a threat. Radio said the mustangs had 86 yds rushing, if you would have told me our d would hold them to that I would have called you crazy! Congrats to McCracken, great game. Congrats to mayfield, some young kids grew up a lot tonight! GO BIG RED!

The officials literally iced the kicker on what would have been the game winner at the end of regulation. I still have no idea what they were doing.

That uniform may say McCracken but it's still pretty Much alone Oak. Be another year or 2 before it's a good mesh of all 3 feeder programs adequately represented on varsity.

Glad you brought that up. I really thought the way the game was played in the 2nd half that this was a tactical error by Mayfield. McCracken literally could not stop the Cardinals at all. And with Jones out for McCracken it was a matter of time before they were stopped.

 

Now that completely discounts the fatigue factor but Mayfield was the stronger team down the stretch. Just felt like an unnecessary risk to me.

My favorite ref goof up was everyone thinking the official was blowing the play dead in the middle of a snap almost causing a turnover. Awful officials. They let Morris and his staff get away with too much tonight.

#24, Brady Harris for McCracken is a tackling machine.

Everybody but the McCracken coaches knew Morris would go for 2 in that situation. Obvious they didn't prepare the defense to be ready to stay on the field. The NT took his helmet off while walking to the sideline after the Mayfield TD. He couldn't come back in even after the timeout. Props to the kid (looked like #59) who replaced him as the Mustangs made the stop from the 1 yd line (after an offside).

I highly encourage everyone to watch the first 4 minutes of part 1. #22 of Mayfield will make 2 of the sickest runs you'll see all year...

Consider these factors:

1) A hot summer night on field turf

2) 6 or 8 Mayfield players came off the field for injury or cramps in the second half

3) Mayfield more than proved everything, they were walking away winners no matter

4) The 100+ year rivalry with PT next week means much more, so why extend the game

5) Go for 2 on the road

Bright will be unstoppable in 1A ball.

Scary part is he's just a soph right? He's little but if he puts some weight on, he'll go down as one of the all times at Mayfield.

Very entertaining game to watch, one that you won't forget any time soon.

 

Mayfield proved they have no quit and is still the team to beat in 1A.

 

McCracken , while they are a solid team could never put the nail in the coffin against the Cards.

 

Even though Mayfield lost I thought they came out of this match up more of a winner.

With Troutman gone to a Murray State, and Jones probably to be hampered by that ankle the rest of the way, I don't see the Mustangs making much noise the rest of the way unless they're willing to put in some more power stuff to take advantage of their size. I understand the need to keep kids fresh, but man...seems like McCracken doesn't try and put their best 11 on the field.

 

Maybe I'm wrong, but if I'm Haskins I move Hughes into Jones' roll till they get him back and let Cash play QB. I think I'd implement other passes besides the screens...Cash has the arm to go down field.
