The officials literally iced the kicker on what would have been the game winner at the end of regulation. I still have no idea what they were doing.

I'm not sure. Would like to see it again. Mayfield got a lot of penetration but they had been on extra points all night. My uneducated guess is low kick. Truthfully McCracken should have kept the ball in the middle of the field on the play before and OT may have never happened.

Sounds like one heck of a game!

They let Morris and his staff get away with too much tonight.

 

Give me a break. Jack Haskins was the worst actor on that field last night and it was the worst officiated game I have ever seen. Coach Morris was trying to protect his players! The helmet to helmet hit on the Mayfield reciever was REDICULOUS and a Mayfield player said that he heard a ref say to the other ref that they were going to be in trouble for the no call on that. That whole crew should never be allowed to call another game. They missed more calls than they got right, 2 to 1 and it cost Mayfield kids injuries.

Look I give all kinds of props to the job the Mayfield coaches do and did last night. But that sideline was out of control at times. It was a terribly officiated game for sure and McCracken did plenty of griping also but just no comparison. I have never seen a coach spend as much time on the field as Morris did last night. Should have been flagged multiple times.

While generally I agree that the officiating was awful and it appeared that they missed the helmet to helmet, Joe Morris was allowed to get away with more than any coach I've ever seen in a game. Virtually every play he was out near the hash marks mouthing at the officials. On one play I counted 7 Mayfield coaches who were out near the hash marks before the play was dead. The officials did nothing. On the other hand, Haskins appeared more calm than usual on the sidelines.

Here are a few players, which may not be known outside the area, deserving recognition for making some key plays last night. Nice job guys!!! I’m sure I missed one or two.

It's not so much what they did call as to what they didn't call. If you know Coach Morris, you know he doesn't get bent out of shape unless he has a legitimate beef. I've felt for years that Western Kentucky has some of the worst officiating crews you will find. Many of these folks also do basketball and they're even worse then.

No argument there. There's only 1 or 2 crews in West Ky that are halfway decent. The only requirement for being an official is passing an online open book test. Most of them don't have a clue.

Great game between two of the best teams west of I-65! Mayfield is the best team in 1A! HANDS DOWN!! Mustangs looked great 1st half but played inconsistently 2nd half. The reverse of the game against PT. The Bright kid is awesome, but McCracken's receivers are scary good. Proud the Mustangs could pull out the win after Rasheed Jones went out with ankle sprain! That shows character! McCracken's tackling in 2nd half was awful at times, but #22 made them miss a lot of those tackles. Both teams will presumably get better!!:thumb:

Caldwell Co & Murray will be very tough games. Graves & Tilghman will be tough too because of the rivalry factor, but, Mayfield should beat both if they're healthy when they play.

 

I don't see anyone beating Mayfield again this season. Tilghman will play them tough, but Mayfield will take it. Caldwell's defense won't be enough to allow them to beat the Cards.

MCMustangs, I agree especially on the play with 7 coaches. I disagree on the helmet to helmet though. I would like to see a replay to confirm, but it appeared to me the DB's left shoulder went through the left shoulder of the receiver and carried on to the helmet. I had the adavantage of a great angle from my seat. The DB came hard from the side catching the receiver in a vulnerable position, but it still looked like he led with the shoulder. It was such a brutal hit, I understand why the Mayfield fans could possibly see it as helmet to helmet. Their view was opposite from which the hit came, so if he caught the shoulder first they wouldn't have been able to see it. More importantly, I was glad to see the kid get up, and sure hope he has no ill effects.

I was not happy with a lot of calls last night but that is football. Morris mentioned the spear on Tucker on the coaches show, he was pretty upset with that and you cant blame him. He also said missed calls are part of the game and I agree with that but I just wish I could cherry pick which ones. He also said we came out of this one with no significant injuries. This was a thriller, we just came up a yard short. This one could have gone either way. From the Mayfield perspective we all got a lot of questions answered about this team and certainly it looks bright. There is no quit in them, I do not see another team on our schedule with the talent we faced last night so I am hopeful this will be another season where we can make a run at a title. Something I was not sure of going in to the season.

So much respect for Mayfield's teams on the field and how they re-load in 1A year after year.

Appeared to be a little of both. Two years in a row a potential FG was looming late in the game and we didn't have our kicker in the net. To be clear, last year wasn't Hartig and I'm very pleased how this young man has improved our kicking game. Maybe it's not his particular routine to do such, I won't claim to know. It just seems a few practice kicks wouldn't hurt.
