I'm not sure. Would like to see it again. Mayfield got a lot of penetration but they had been on extra points all night. My uneducated guess is low kick. Truthfully McCracken should have kept the ball in the middle of the field on the play before and OT may have never happened.

Yes, but hard to second guess that 3rd down call when Hughes was one man away from the endzone.

I always find it interesting that people choose data that fulfills their preconceived belief. So there is all this talk about how Morris and Mayfield outcoached McCracken Co. in the second half. People believe Morris is awesome at making adjustments so they pick anything positive that happens to prove that belief. Yet as I am reading the update thread and looking at what happened last night, I see Mayfield outscoring McCracken 10-7 in the third quarter till they added the TD right at the end of the quarter. If Morris made all these great adjustments, why did McCracken score the first TD in the second half? Why didn't Mayfield win the game? I believe the biggest factor in Mayfield even getting to OT was Bright making those two incredible runs, and a couple other ones also along the way. That has nothing to do with coaching adjustments. That is a great player making plays.

Being a Beechwood fan, you should have seen several halftime adjustments that Morris and staff have made where they completely turned the tide in an otherwise close game. I'm sure you're going to say no, Jonathon Jackson was the difference, but, if that's your premise, then why didn't Mayfield dominate in the 1st half, too. Wasn't Jackson in the game then, too?

Yes, Mayfield didn't score 1st in the 2nd half, but, they did put together a good drive and got deep into McCracken's territory.. They were finally able to gain some yards on the ground that they couldn't in the 1st half. Players have to make plays for sure and Bright made a couple of great ones, but, so, did Hughes and Jones and a couple of others for McCracken. Fact is Mayfield was down 24-7 early in 3rd and ended up outscoring a superior talented team by a 24-7 score thru the rest of regulation. This being done in alot of heat and the team experiencing cramps and injuries on nearly every play to a deeper and more experienced team. If that can't be attributed to coaching, I don't know what can. No, they came up 1 yard short for the win, but, without coaching, they would have never been put in that position to be going for the win in the 1st place.

I would like to add how #4 Jordan Tyler also looked good running the ball for the Cardinals. His first couple of steps are scary quick.

Give me an example.

Honestly, I can't recall a big Mayfield adjustment at halftime in any of the Beechwood games. The biggest adjustment by either coach in a game I recall is when Beechwood changed their offense in the 4th quarter in 2011 and almost came back to get the win. Someone correct my memory if I am missing something.

Let's not take this into a discussion that says Morris is not a great coach. He is. And he does make adjustments at halftime like many coaches. I am sure Mayfield fans can cite me many examples of where he made an adjustment at halftime that made a big difference in a game. My point here is one thing - I didn't see any big adjustment in the McCracken game last night. Yet people are commenting that he made some adjustment and outcoached the other guy. I don't see it. Someone tell me what Morris did last night at halftime and I can change my mind.

We can't tell you our secrets.:sneaky:

VOR

WE have been awaiting Bright's arrival on the HS field since the day he was born, he is a Bright and is living up to the family name. Morris and staff did adjust well but Haskins and staff also made some adjustments and Morris adjusted to those on the fly. Morris and his staff are some of the best. Haskins and his staff are also. The only time in history Mf has ever lost to a McCracken County school was 39 years ago to a Haskins coached Heath in 1975. Mayfield's ability to adjust to me has always been amazing. I felt last night that the team swagger out of the locker room was a product of the coaches. We came out and to start the second half and you would have thought we were the team that was ahead

VOR, you bring up a valid point. Maybe I drank the Kool-aid as well. It is probably a combination of several dynamics that has caused BW to lose to Mayfield so many times in the recent past. Coaching, players, missed calls, etc. Because a few of these games got away from BW in the second half I think it is natural to hone in on coaching adjustments. It is based on perception alone and not empirical evidence so we will never know for sure.

I can recall Mayfield and Beechwood being in a very competitive game in the 1st half at Mayfield with Mayfield struggling some to stop the run and in the 2nd half, Mayfields defense didn't give up a 1st down till late in the 4th qtr, while there offensive line dominated the Tigers Dline. Not sure the exact year that was.

There was also a year at Beechwood where the 1st half was close, but, Mayfield made halftime adjustments and won, going away.

Frankfort actually led Mayfield last year at the half, but, they dominated the 2nd half because they made adjustments both offensively and defensively and ended up winning going away.

H.Cross and KCD played Mayfield competitvely for a half in last couple of years only to see Mayfield make adjustments and win going away.

Like I said, players have to execute and make plays, but, the coaches make the play calls that best fit the situation at the time. That's why they work.

I would like to see coach Haskins do really well this year. He's come close to winning a State championship several times. It will be tough in 6A.

While generally I agree that the officiating was awful and it appeared that they missed the helmet to helmet, Joe Morris was allowed to get away with more than any coach I've ever seen in a game. Virtually every play he was out near the hash marks mouthing at the officials. On one play I counted 7 Mayfield coaches who were out near the hash marks before the play was dead. The officials did nothing. On the other hand, Haskins appeared more calm than usual on the sidelines.
Mayfield coaches were on the field and as heated as got a few times I'm surprised that a flag wasn't thrown, however, it seemed to me there was justification to be on the field as the ref's were a poor crew. The first play of the game was flea flicker where the ball got knocked around and seemed to hit the ground but yet was ruled a catch. That was the first call where they went ballistic.

That play was right in front of me. Ball popped up off Morgan Alexander's hands to Elijah Macklin who made the catch. Surprisingly, the crew got that one right.

The one I saw joe complain the most about was a play that was supposed to be a screen, so all the linemen released downfield. Turned out to be a downfield pass that somehow the refs didn't pay attention to. If you watch the replay you will see it very clear. OL was 10-15 yds downfield blocking on a 10 yd out route. I was going ballistic too! Good thing they had a fence!

The bottom line is its the officials responsibility to control coaches entering the playing field. They never had control of any part of the game and Joe took advantage of it. Can't blame him for that.
