Yates was in goal for shots 1,3, and 5. Zoeller in goal for shots 2 and 4. On top of that Zoeller took first shot for SK and Yates took last shot for SK.

I think SK needs to worry about Lafeyette and Ryle needs to worry about Scott County. The region finals will contain 2 of those 4 teams and that will be a dandy of a game. I have seen all 4 teams play and all 4 are good. But Lafeyette and Scott County both look bigger than Ryle and SK.

SK has used 2 keepers every time a game went to PKs both years Zoeller has been coaching at SK. SK had games that went to PK 3 or 4 times this year and once last year. Last year SK had 2 good varsity keepers, this year they really only had 1 varsity keeper. I believe the reasoning is to keep the other team from picking up on any tendencies if they had used a single keeper. When Zoeller was between the pipes it seemed the strategy was more about distracting the shooter than trying to stop anything. That being said, I believe a shooter missed a shot or had a shot blocked when Zoeller was in goal in every PK game this year including last night. So maybe the strategy works.

That sounds like a coach kidding himself when he says it is always about playing time. In reality all playing time does is mask real problems. When a player is getting playing time they tend to overlook underlying issues because they are getting to play. When a player is not getting playing time the underlying issues come to the fore front. A coach that does not listen to the underlying issues is missing an opportunity to improve.

The Ryle/SK match-up should be interesting. The game last year was very physical with Zoeller getting nicked up. That impacted her play for a few weeks last year. SK has played well defensively, but has not gotten it together offensively this year. It will be an interesting game to watch tonight.

The covering over the fence on the far parking lit were there all season. I believe they were also there last season.

At the time the turf was put down I do not believe there was a minimum width specified by KHSAA for regional or state games. Now there is. My guess is this will be something addressed the next time the turf is replaced.

The field is a couple of feet too narrow and they could not get an exemption. Thus the move to Scott that has a wider field.

If true, congrats to both ladies! Zoeller has had a great season. While much has been made about her assist total, she has assisted on a bunch of goals for teammates all season. She moves really well without the ball. To me this was the obvious pick for 8th region POY.

Congratulations to the SK Lady Pioneers for winning the 8th Region! They beat Oldham Co. 4-3 in a shootout. First regional shampionship since 2007 when they were in the 9th Region. Next up 7th Region champion on Tuesday at 7pm at an NKY site to be determined in the 2st round of the State Tournament.

Nice showing by NKY! 4 teams in the top 13 and a total of 5 in the top 25. The ninth region will be a dog fight. I think ND, NCC, or Highlands all could win the 9th region. It will come down to who wants it the most, who can minimize the mistakes, and has the best game plan.

I do not agree that most schools use thier squads not playing to do the ball running. We all have horror stories regarding ball runners, even when they are kids from a "not playing squad". Just because you use kids that play on another squad does not mean they are paying any better attention to the game and getting balls back in quickly.

Shame the NCC vs. SK game got cancelled. I was looking forward to that matchup and see a rematch of the Socceroma game to see how both teams had grown. Congrats NCC on the all "A" win! End of the day NCC won the tournament and had to beat some very good teams to do it.

The ball was 50-50 until it made it out to the young lady, who I agree, had no one around her. But all the yelling started before the ball ever made it out to that young lady. I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this one.

Regarding the SK issue last night, several of the players, on both teams, had stopped playing at the point the ball was played out. Some of the field players and the Cooper coach were yelling to play the ball out. While a Cooper played played the ball out it was 50-50 who had control of the ball up to that point. I had no problems with SK, on any other team, in that situation playing the ball out as if nothing has happened. SK is playing very good ball and playing well as a team. They have a tough week ahead.

Maher rankings take into account the strength of the opponents into a computer ranking. So while it matters you beat a team ahead of you, it does not necessarily move you ahead of theat opponent.

There was a Freshman tournamet approximately 8 or 9 years ago. Bishop Brossart hosted the first one and SK hosted the second tournament. Not sure exactly why it fell apart. The JV tournament fell apart 3 years ago. The last few years it was played at Town & Country. It was nice it was in one location, but the fields being smaller was a negative.

If you are going to start this thread, you have name the team otherwise you are just causing speculation.

While NDA (Notre Dame Academy) may have had more shots than SK it was not dramatically different, especially in the second half. SK had several quality shots and opportunities.

It was a good game and both teams played well. NDA scored once each half. SK scored once in the 2nd half. I do not know if they are the team to beat in the 8th but they are a contender.

Rylie's keeper made several great saves and a couple of SK's shots went off the crossbar or upright. Ryle's goals and one of SK's goals came off of PKs. Ryle may have been coming off of 4 games in 5 day stretch but I thought they played with lots of energy.

SK beat Ryle 2-1 in a hard fought game by both teams

SK has a senior keeper that will be starting Varsity. She was at GSP during Bluegrass which is why the had a freshman keeper there.

Of the schools I know about that have freshman teams they have have used middle school players to fill out the rosters. Since SK started a freshamn team 9 to 10 years ago they have used 8th, 7th, and at one time 6th graders to fill out that team. During that time they also had 8th graders playing on the JV team. There are not that many Northern Kentucky schools that have freshman teams. Intersting that you keep mentioning Highlands and how they used 8th graders last year on the JV team. But when SK played Highlands last year, SK could not play any of thier 8th graders on thier JV team because Highlands had none on thier JV roster.

SK JV and Varsity are playing Assumption Saturday August 6th at Collins HS.
