What's crazy is WJ got away with doing that against NDA, and having one saved, in the first round. It sounds like they did a better job of converting tonight.

Did the experience WJ gained by going to PKs in the first round against NDA help them in last night's semi final, likely.

Lex Cath Vs WJ should make for an exciting final. WJ beat Lex Cath 3-0 back on 9/21, how does that result impact Saturday's final, if at all?

I have to say great game by both teams and hate to come out on the short end of this one

I thought sk controlled most of the first half. Def had some great scoring opportunities they didn't capitalize on. West jess didn't threaten a whole lot

2nd half things evened out a little more. Both teams had several scoring opportunities that i don't know how they stayed out of the goal. Both teams goalies made terrific saves

Did the prior experience help west jess in ot? I don't think so, both teams have been taken to pks in preassure situations. It just comes down to the simple fact that sk left two shots off frames to west jessamines one

Would love to see stats. Sk def controlled the first half and had more scoring opportunities during the game. I would believe they also controlled time of possession as well. This game impitimizes that it's a game of inches.

 

Good luck to west jessamine in the final. They earned this birth as they have had the toughest path to get there. Need to finish it off now

SK used Yates AND Zoeller. They also relied on both to take kicks. Yates played a magnificent game, had to be a pretty tough decision to not let her be in the goal for all 5 kicks.

Do I understand this correctly, Simon Kenton used TWO different keepers during the 5 PKs taken by WJ? Did the first keeper get hurt during these PKs?

This is a FIRST for me, I have never seen nor heard of a team using two different keepers during a 5 player round of PKs. I have known a few teams to use a different keeper (for all of the PKs) then the keeper that played all 90 minutes (80 minutes plus 5 and 5 OT) but NEVER switching during the PKs. If the first Simon Kenton keeper was not injured during the PKs can someone explain the reasoning behind this decision and do you think it had an impact on the result.

SK has used 2 keepers every time a game went to PKs both years Zoeller has been coaching at SK. SK had games that went to PK 3 or 4 times this year and once last year. Last year SK had 2 good varsity keepers, this year they really only had 1 varsity keeper.

 

I believe the reasoning is to keep the other team from picking up on any tendencies if they had used a single keeper. When Zoeller was between the pipes it seemed the strategy was more about distracting the shooter than trying to stop anything. That being said, I believe a shooter missed a shot or had a shot blocked when Zoeller was in goal in every PK game this year including last night. So maybe the strategy works.

GK Yates made some outstanding saves.

 

SK put 9 behind the ball most of the game, and the strategy frustrated WJ. It left Zoeller 1 vs. 3 most of the night when the ball was cleared. The game plan almost worked. She still got off 10 shots and almost pulled off the win if it weren't for a couple quality stops from the WJ keeper. Clearly the best player on the field, maybe the most talented in KY.

 

West had quite a bit more possession and build up, SK had more shots. IMO the better team moved on, but SK should be proud of their season.

How many shots was Zoeller in goal for and how many Yates?

Yates was in goal for shots 1,3, and 5. Zoeller in goal for shots 2 and 4.

 

On top of that Zoeller took first shot for SK and Yates took last shot for SK.
