On first pass, they looked much better in the Carmel game than Warren Central. They have some size at receiver and the QB Cherry (6'5, 205) has some arm talent. They had a WR take a nasty H2H hit, but I'm not sure if he's in the concussion protocol or not. They have moved a big Nickel/LB over to get some runs and he can move pretty well. The team is riding a 30-game winning streak, but they certainly look beatable to me. They are definitely well coached and the Rocks will need to make the leap offensively to get this one I think. I really liked how the defense did not give up last week in a rough game against an exceptional Moeller team. It wouldn't surprise me to see Coach Cobb look to get some guys playing both ways to give them a boost on offense.

Looks like Preseason All-State and starting RB Drew Wheat for CGHS is out. Should know more this week, but losing the starting RB for a Wing-T team can be crushing and maybe explains why they had such a tough time with Carmel.

For the person who asked, Mack and Laskowski are out for the year, pending a miraculous turn of events. A truly unfortunate happening as Steven was already going out of bounds and the hit on him was unnecessary. Laskowski was described to me as nursing a shoulder issue that was made worse during the course of the game. Hate it for both of them. ?

Moeller has one of the best RBs in the Midwest in Jordan Marshall (194 yds offense, 4 TDs vs. Massilon, 25 offers) and also have a stud WR in Tennell Bryant (7/227/3 TDs) and at CB with South Carolina commit Karson Hobbs. Rocks have won the last 2 in dominating fashion with a 44-7 win in '20 and 41-0 in '19. Last year's game was cancelled for COVID, but I expect Mighty Moe to be up for us this time around. SHould be another great game! ☘️

I was extremely impressed with the offseason strides made by Coach Cobb and the team Friday. The thing that stood out to me most was the 2-to-1 differential in time of possession and the Rocks ability to shorten the game. Dominating both lines of scrimmage was (and should always be!) priority number one and it really paid off in the second half. Carmel only gained one first down in the second half and it was on a penalty. Very encouraging going into the Moeller game against an incredible rushing attack. No official word just yet, but I'd expect to lose both starting RB/CB Stephen Mack and OLB Finn Laskowski to injury for the year. Huge losses for this defensive unit. Drew Davis stepped in and played a great game at Nickel/Viper (or whatever he calls it) and junior Jordan McIntyre appeared to be the backup for Mack, although I can see sophomore Kingston Florence also getting some reps with the 1's. Either way, it's next man up against one of the best teams in Ohio!

Should be a really good game. I'm expecting to see 2 QBs for Carmel and maybe Trinity too. Carmel EDGE Will Heldt is a 6'6 monster who had a great scrimmage vs. Westfield and Ben Davis (3-team scrimmage)...Berglund is very reminiscent of Shamrock DB's Jack Dingle and Timmy Smith and will definitely be one of the best players on the field. The Greyhound OL is huge and will need to move the stout Trinity DL to establish the RPO/Option running game. THS LB Brady McEnenany should be back, along with DB Lincoln Mitchell to solidify the defense. No word on SuperSoph JC Wilson's leg injury. Expecting Drew Allen to get the start at QB and I imagine they will try to employ a similar offense to what Beatty/Coverdale used with Reggie Bonnafon, as they are of a similar athletic thread. Lots to choose from at RB with Steven Mack, Jeremiah Lynn, Luke Sasser and Clint Sansbury all getting reps in the scrimmage. It also seems we will see a few of them to line up at WR, with Noah Myers playing both TE and WR as well. Here's hoping we can get it up to his 6'5 frame and cause some problems for Carmel. I am calling the game on the radio for Trinity so I won't pick a winner, but I fully expect this game to be a dog fight. Coach Cobb is coming off of a productive offseason and it really seems like this team is ready to flush the bad feeling from last year. They have some leadership in the locker room and some experience on the field. Execution is what comes next! Go Rocks!

Worked in TV at WBKO in BG while at Western as a Broadcasting major and let me say it was awful to have to call him and ask for highlights sent to us for UofL or UK. It was made clear to us that we were a complete hinderance on him and his staff and we would get whatever he felt like sending. But when WKU hoops was in the Sweet 16 or football was winning the Natty, then we owed him for past deals and we better send it right away. This lawsuit does not surprise me in the least bit. This is his character and what he is capable of. That being said, I was on the opposite sideline calling the game on radio for T and saw the whole thing. As a video journalist, you are taught to film with both eyes open, one in the lens and the other watching for plays like this. If you have both eyes open, you don't get hit. The person who taught me that worked for Fred at WLKY. I know I am obviously biased, but you've seen the video and read the lawsuit...This will be a quick case and Freddy can take his keister back to New York where he belongs and hopefully Rob and Rob make sure he never sees Jansing Field again.

Experience (lack) seemed to be the prevailing issue for them last year, which is common for all programs. Injuries compounded that problem and unfortunately Coach Cobb et al had to endure a rough season because of it. I don't know if any team could have run that gamut after losing what was maybe a top 10 defense all-time and all of those key players, but the path is always forward and the Rocks will certainly rebuild. I do wonder how much the flailing CSAA league in the city is contributing to lower numbers and a lack of "football ready" players coming into the school...

Scrimmage thoughts: Springfield was definitely not the same team, but their two D1 DBs were very impressive. Trinity did not complete much in the way of long balls, but did a great job of controlling the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball. #74 Brok Sholtes was really impressive at center and can really move. I know he played a fair amount backing up Drew Woodruff and some of the others last year and you can see he has made strides. The team doesn't have a clear cut running back, but they had a few big plays with a Clint Sansbury (Jr) 34-yd TD and some hard running from Stephen Mack (Sr) and Luke Sasser (Jr). Mack, Sasser, and Jeremiah Lynn (Soph) all lined up in the backfield and split out wide. Drew Allen (Sr) took most of the #1 snaps at QB and showed blazing speed running the RPO game. He ripped off a 45-yd TD run in the first quarter and did a decent job for someone who has missed most of the last two years. Jackson Hepner (Jr) came in and completed a screen to Lynn for a 71-yd TD to make it 21-6 in the second quarter. The Trinity defense looked very impressive. The front 7 were dominant most of the day with many plays being made by LBs Wickliffe (Sr) and Barz (Sr) as well as Toney, Lewis (Sr) and Nate Tronzo (Jr) up front. They were without safety Lincoln Mitchell and LB Brady McEnany as well as sophomore JC Wilson, but all are expected to return to the lineup soon. They played hard for the three allotted quarters and both touchdowns for Springfield were on coverage issues in the secondary. Special teams were the real star for Trinity on Saturday. Kellan McLaughlin (Sr) hit several kicks deep into the end zone and hit two into the wind all the way to the goal line. Carter Schwartz (Sr) and Carson Hilbert (So) both did a fantastic job with punts and Hilbert added a short field goal for the final points. Brian Davis (DL, Jr) blocked a PAT and the Rocks recovered a bad snap on a punt attempt that led to a touchdown. I know there are many people worrying about the state of the program and with so many unknows coming into the season with another difficult schedule. While just a scrimmage, it appears Coach Cobb has really put a lot of work into this team in the offseason and the kids showed a real enthusiasm to compete. Returning OL coach Will Heineman comes back to the program after a stint at UPike and his squad really performed Saturday. Keeping Allen (and/or Hepner) upright and establishing the run game will be the keys to the early season with no certified playmakers on offense yet. If the defense returns healthy and can reflect the outstanding coaching they have known for several years now, Trinity will once again be playing into December.

I feel like your top 3 are all pretty solid and well deserving. Couch put up astronomical numbers against a bunch of tomato cans but to my knowledge, never even made a state championship game, which I guess makes his stats that much more unbelievable. Regardless, he's a lock at #2 and is definitely behind Brian Brohm. While I get that Duggins, Guidugli and Smith may have gotten to play in college, the three seasons Travis Wright had at Trinity are maybe the best three seasons anyone on this list has had in high school. While he isn't the 6-4 220 pound prototype passer, he went 51-2 as a starter against hands-down the most difficult schedule ever assembled and was named a 2nd team All-American in 2011. He led the 2011 team to the #1 ranking by several publications and had the Shamrocks nationally ranked in all three of his varsity seasons. He also is third all-time in completion percentage, is sixth and tenth all-time in completion percentage for a season, ninth in career passing yards, and eighth in consecutive games with a passing TD. And I understand that he had some pretty talented kids around him (Quick, Dawkins, Bishop, Radcliff) and a solid offensive line, but for a kid to start as a sophomore at an institution like Trinity and then put up those numbers against championship caliber schools from Cincinnati, Indianapolis and Nashville is nothing short of incredible. He threw well on the run, in the pocket and his poise is among the best you'll ever see. He could throw the deep ball and very rarely, if ever, turned the ball over. He made average wide receivers into all-staters and helped make James Quick the best football player in the state's rich history. But perhaps above all, Wright leading the Rocks to a 6-0 record and 215-40 scoring margin in one of the biggest rivalries in high school sports in the country should easily put him among these fine players. He played his best games in the toughest scenarios and should definitely be mentioned among the best to ever play in our state.

Nope, I don't think that at all...but as CoachJ said, not only does Beatty have a system in place, he has a group of kids and coaches who buy in and compete and work...All that on top of a program and alumni base that facilitate that motivation...I'm not here to take shots, just provide objective perspectives... If you don't believe me, ask Manual's WR coach and OC...what they did with that group should be bottled and sold to the public...those are guys who prepare and ask nothing but the best from their players...the preparation was evident

I'd be willing to bet the only people who ABSOLUTELY know how this "negotiation" went down are Bob Beatty and his immediate family and the committee in AR. If I know Beatty, i'd also bet that he didn't let one word slip to Dr. Mullen, Rob Saxton or any of the admins at Trinity about the intricate details of this process. That being said, I can't see any reason why Trinity would "allow" another school the chance to woo him, especially this late into the offseason. It would be extremely detrimental to the conditioning program and implementation process if Trinity had to conduct a search to hire a new coach or coaches... Just my opinion!

To me, the only way to beat Trinity is to prepare like Trinity...offseason, scouting, game film breakdown, system implementation, discipline...The only team that comes to mind that appears to work and prepare like Trinity is Ensworth...

As for the OP, I would think the short list would start with Steve Specht (St. X OH), Rick Streiff (Cathedral), Sam Adams (Hillcrest, AL), Gabe Infante (St. Joseph's, PA)

This would be a national search, no doubt about it, even if Andrew Coverdale wanted the job. That being said, if a new coach were to come in and not keep AC, he should be fired immediately. Coverdale is a savant when it comes to offense and is also very underrated for his defensive mind. He was in a bad situation at Castle and is proven to be a winner regardless of that series of events. I have seen him speak at many clinics and I can attest to you, he could have an NFL job if he wants it. That is fact.

I will agree that Scott Co. probably has the best wing-t offense in the state that i've seen thus far...but in the game you mentioned, they amassed a whopping 5 first downs and 0 points in the second half...their defense was tough and Trinity was without Quick and had a sick Dalyn Dawkins at RB...kudos to them for putting up the good fight...
