Not singling him out. I know the young man pretty well, was just using him as an example of the extra throwing that kids do that don't go against pitch counts. If he is doing it, I wonder if there are many others that have the same kind of rituals like you say and they then get an extra 50 pitches or so before the game even starts.

Couple things that come to my mind. Lets say they have a 100 pitch count in a day. That doesn't count the 5 or 8 warm up pitches they are allowed each inning. So they could end up throwing 135-154 pitches and that is not counting warm up in the bull pen before the game. I had heard the Bellevue kid was throwing an hour before his game on Monday. My other thought is, if the KHSAA starts to impose pitch counts who do you think is going to monitor this. That will become touchy. I also know several coaches that will be trying to work pitchers to get those numbers up on a kid if they think they have a better changes with the relief pitcher.

Was told that the Shining Start 15U (K. Brinkmann) team was going to play in it but found out they couldn't because they are made up of 7 KY kids and 3 OH kids. Sounds like they should have played in the KY State Tournament. They are now playing in the National GearUp Tournament in Indy this coming weekend.

I would agree with LexFan. When your 6'6 & 6'7 big guys are built like lineman it doesn't matter who and what size of a guy you play against. We have watched McDonald muscle himself through anything to score and then beat the other big guy (or guard) down the floor on fast breaks. If they can pull it all together I think it really is going to make for an exciting tournament for them. Look forward to following them in July.

Just wondering, how does someone become an umpire if I wanted to? It's plays like this, games like this, that for some reason gives me a reason to want to learn. I'm not sure I could handle the screaming from the stands but being on the field gives a whole other feeling I'm sure. Now I doubt I would ever make it to this level at my age, but at any level there are games like this, that have big calls like this that are made. Something about post season that makes us all want to be kids again, or maybe it's just me.

Sorry, its called baseball. HC, BW (at one time) and several other teams have made a career out of trick plays like this or others. I don't' fault the players for trying. It's like the 3rd to 1st pickoff attempt that 99% of the time never works, but that 1% when it does work, can shift a games entire momentum. Best of luck to both teams in the finals..

Looking at the whole sequence that Panda posted a link to. I agree you don't get actual speed so I can only go by what I'm seeing. If his camera takes pictures that fast as 8 frames a second then that play unfolded even faster. And I'm guessing you are correct again in saying that it wasn't a tough call, because the umpire called what he saw. But yet everyone else is saying he is wrong. Anyway, I'll move on.

If you look at all the pics you don't clearly see the catcher blocking the plate. As mentioned above, he has to provide access to the plate. You clearly see in several pictures that he is straddling the plate and that he provides access to the plate between his legs. The question is, did he put his leg down before the ball was in his glove and as Panda said, his camera takes 8 pics per second and based on how close the ball was, its way to close for me to complain about the umpire's call. Plus in the picture with the ball about 5 feet away you are unable to see the catcher's back leg. Its always easier being a Monday (Wednesday) morning quarterback than it is to get out there and play, coach, or even umpire the night before. I wasn't there but looking at the pictures that is a way tougher call then everyone is saying and the clear obstruction that is mentioned above is only clear in the eyes above when we have the picture about 2 milliseconds before the catcher has the ball in his glove. I recently have seen a quote from a MLB catcher where the same rule applies, he states that he will continue to push the limit on this rule until he finds an umpire that is going to call it. Even MLB umpires have a tough time calling this. I will agree with rsj4470, the catcher is going to the benefit of the doubt in situations like this.

Were the umpires on top of it? The best hidden ball trick tricks everyone.. Announcers, coaches, runners and umpires. When it works, it works... And against a coach who has made an art of little tricks like this.

Just looked at the sequence of pictures. WOW!! Way to close of a call for me to make. Was the ball in his glove no, but it's about 10 feet from it. Thats way to close of a call and definitely easier to call with the pictures than seeing it live. The umpire must have felt the ball was in the glove when the player was stopped. What was the crowds like last night.

I think it's way more fun being the Monday morning quarterback seeing if what others come up on here plays out. I agree, isn't BGP mostly made up with parents trying to share their opinions. I definitely don't qualify as being a coach or even an umpire, but it is fun trying to put myself in their minds/shoes to see if what I would do they actually do. 99% of the time I'm wrong... :lol2: Good luck Monday to all teams. Just so we know, is it BlueTip because your an umpire and are a student of the rules or is that just a name?? Was at another game so before I respond I'm just wanting to make sure this was an educated assumption or not.

How many times have we seen teams think of the second round first and throw their two man only to get beat. You have to play/pitch every game to win. IMO teams that make the regional are there for a reason and could upset anyone at any moment.

Well it's happened again. I was told last night at a game of an incident that happened at the Ryle vs SK JV game a week ago. They said three parents from SK confronted the umpire after the game in the parking lot. If this is correct, what is being done to control parents??? You almost think if saying their names and using public humiliation is a way of curbing the problem. Just saying.

When is the draw?

I'm taking Highlands for the full sweep.. Freshman, JV and now Varsity... They have played very well at the end of their season and I really think they could be peaking at the right time..
