Didn't NKU have something like 7 players transfer away last year? If a high school team bumped my team out of our main gym, I promise you I would not be at the same school next year.

Lots of talk about 1. Why do freshman not go to another school and 2. Which schools have better ACT scores than CCH? 1. You guys remember being 15 years old. Most of these kids go where their brothers and fathers went or where their friends are going. As was said, basketball is not always the ONLY reason. 2. CovCath is a great school. So is Beechwood, St. Henry, CovLatin, Villa, Highlands, etc. All of the schools have something in addition to competitive academics to offer (Sports, traditions, clubs, student organizations, etc.), which is probably what draws kids more than ACT scores. This is exactly the type of information Mexi was looking for when he started the thread. :clap:

Isn't this tournament now called the "Jack Kaelin Freshman Classic?" He put this whole thing together for something like 30-40 years. Amazing.

To answer your question: No (not yet at least.) As has been mentioned, they need to win AT LEAST back to back regions before this talk becomes serious. This is a very good basketball team that plays extremely hard. But what matters most (as last year's team showed) is how they play come late-February / March.

I imagine Bo is getting lots of good d3 interest.

They should "make a statement" to shut up some people who started a rumor out of thin air? Please. You are the only poster who has made this accusation. The CCH coaches are miles above listening to blatant lies. God forbid CovCath wins a game in any sport and doesn't get accused of something. Maybe its possible they are just a damn good team with a damn good coaching staff.

I promise you, CCH players were not instructed to "trash talk." The coaches have perspective and realize that this is high school basketball and would never THINK about telling their players to do start anything. I can tell you this though, these Covcath players will not back down. But I cannot stress enough that the coaches did not instruct or hint at the idea of calling Holmes players specific insults.

I guess that and the 1-11 night at Mason County had nothing to do with the opponents.

Correct, as all 3 of them now play other sports at the college level. Schult and Schreiver left soley to focus on basketball and baseball. Pope left to focus on baseball AND he was injured in his last game so he did not want to risk it.

I Wonder who the 1 vote for Holmes is... Having seen only a handful of games this year, I think the Colonels win big. I doubt they will have a problem containing Beetle, but they can't forget about everyone else. Having made my prediction I keep in mind that many (including myself) thought CCH would win districts last year. One thing is for sure: Holmes vs CCH games lately always make for an exciting night of basketball!

Doesn't bug me at all. I actually prefer it because if the player makes the first one you want him/her to "do exactly what they did" on the 2nd shot as the 1st shot. Including the "walk-up." JMO.

Out of curiosity, what is the big deal about "no fist bumps?" I played high school ball for 4 years, starting every game my senior year, and never once fist bumped the opposing players before the tip. I never read anything about it on here or heard anyone say anything about it.

I know most of the players on both teams and this is true. Jimmy is the "players coach" of NCC and Joe Frederick is the "players coach" on CCH. Both guys are huge assets to their programs. Since I started on assistants, one big advantage CCH has is that Bacigalupo PLAYED for Ronnie Dawn. I'm sure Coach Dawn does not run the same sets and schemes he ran with Tony, but Tony knows Dawn's style as well as anyone. Helps CCH to adjust to NCC's adjustments (if that makes sense).

Congrats to the Colonels! Didn't know they had it in them but as they have done for a few years, they proved many wrong. NCC, learn from it, play hard, and get ready because these two teams will meet up again in March...

Just to confirm I believe Fowler is out for the season for Moe? Haven't followed them but that hurts bigtime.

Agreed for the most part. AAU basketball is a very good thing for low college level or only high school players in the sense that it allows them to play against competitive and elite athletes. But yes, in terms of running offensive sets and playing solid defense, it doesn't do too much.

I think its been mentioned but there was an NCC vs Dixie regional finals game I think 5 years ago that could be considered. Three OT's, Geisler vs Hatton, and probably one of the first years tournament was at BOKC. Great atmosphere.

I doubt the refs will have an impact on the outcome; that is ultimately up to the players' desire and will. They can change the style and personnel, but the best team usually finds a way to win. I know nothing about KCC except that Justice is the real deal. So, being 100% biased, I'll take the Colonels because I know how hard they play. Should be an exciting game regardless of who wins.
