For NKU basketball games kids 6 and under are FREE. Nice "perk" for 9th region tourney at the BOKC b/c you know how 2-6 year old's pay such close attention to the games:)

Should be a great game. I feel whoever wins this will be headed to state. Holmes just doesn't seem to be playing well together. Yes, I know they are 29-2 but very sloppy vs. a young Ryle team and got dominated by HC prior to that. Highlands and HC's coaching and chemistry will play a factor in who wins the region IMO.

The season is still going but as the season ends for many teams the news trickles in. What teams will be looking for new head coaches next season? Any ideas who will replace them? Boone County Gallatin County

I agree Ludlow has some nice young talent, which is great to see. St. Henry does as well with a strong JV team and perhaps stronger freshman group. Makes for great basketball in the future!

With all due respect, I don't think many folks saw the same game as you did. Dixie immediately extended an 11 point half time lead to 17 and continued to push it to the upper 20's by the end of the 3rd. Then gave way to the bench early enough to get 11 players in the scoring column. I'd guess Dixie would be quite happy if they played that way vs. St. Henry.

I felt the officiating was average and while they made mistakes like any crew, players had time to make adjustments on how the game was being called. Woodland was in an aggressive full court press which lead to the foul differential. Niece fouled out with 4 mins left, #31 with about 2 minutes then Profitt shortly thereafter, which could have also been a jump ball. TF was very disciplined, limiting reaches and just moving their feet. Steczynski, Smallwood and Rabe did a nice defensive job for TF limiting Woodlands tough offensive threats. Guards also moved the ball well getting posts lots of layups, making them pay for the pressure. The last couple times these two teams have played it's been very exciting and good basketball by a lot a terrific boys. Well played on both sides and definitely worth the price of admission.

Haha Basketball55. I agree that it seems Dixie fans have far more criticism than the other schools. Even a 10-15 Notre Dame team 2 years removed from a State Championship appearance has less knocking on their program. With all this incredible basketball knowledge in the stands I expect resumes to be flooding in by the truckload next time there's an opening for a head coaching position.

Going into the 4th quarter Dixie is in a tie game with 22-3 Highlands, a favorite to win the 9th region, and the takeaway from much of the Dixie fan base is questioning strategy, a lack of adjustments, and hidden treasures. This is difficult to comprehend. Highlands averages 65 points per game. The "lazy zone" kept them 14 points below their average.

Who did St. Henry freshman pick up their loss against?

Saying "playing 8 on 5 is hard" sounds very much like a blame game just so you know. 99.9% of officials simply don't care who wins. The overwhelming majority are just trying to do the best they can and call an fair game. But, of course, 50% of fans are upset by every call

That is unfortunate to hear in a 45 point victory. It ultimately shows a lack of respect for your opponent and the great game of basketball. I have a lot of respect for what coach Sturgeon brought to St. Henry but that selfish act sounds as if it has embarrassed everyone except the coach. I'm hopeful the Villa players don't pay the price for whatever statement he's trying to make in their next meeting.

Development is the exact reason why I'd want my daughter to be moved up (assuming there's a solid staff in place at the high school level). While there are some absolutely terrific middle school coaches, there seems to be far more turnover. So often times you're rolling the dice. Is it someone who knows their stuff or someone who was strongly persuaded to coach simply to fill a position…especially on the girls side. It's often like a revolving door with little collaboration among the various grades at most schools. As a parent, I'd want my daughter to be challenged as a middle schooler. If she can score 20+ every game then move her up. In my opinion that gives the others in her class an opportunity to develop while she's getting challenged at the next level…and keeps those players in high school hungry as they're fighting for a spot on the floor every day in practice and games. Because of the pure physicality of the boys game in high school, 7th and 8th graders generally can't compete with the size, strength and speed of the game. There are exceptions to the rule such as Brandon Hatton but I don't think playing varsity ball as a middle schooler hindered his development:)

Alex Steczynski (Turkey Foot) has also played well when matched up versus Woodlands top players. Smart player, good shot and plays great defense.

Dixie had 3 players foul out, Harrison Co had 1. Brock hit a couple 3's down the stretch while guard Buddenburg hit 4 consecutive free throws to finish the game.

Agreed. Raceland does have 1 very athletic hitter but if Scott continues to play the way they have all year, I don't believe they'll have much trouble. Just too many threats and I can't say enough about the setting from Trimpe. Seems the ball is in the perfect spot for the hitters on every swing and even if it isn't they show great intelligence and make the necessary adjustments. A very solid group. I too would be cautiously optimistic...but certainly expect good things from Scott. Good luck!

What a refreshing post! Well done.

I believe timing for the game was a major factor. Crowds for the 2 semi-final girls games on Saturday were very nice size. But having the girls final on a Sunday evening 3 hours AFTER the boys semi-finals (which were expected to be the 2 best games of the year in NKY) is rough. I agree that it would be awesome to have boys and girls championship double header next year.

Conner is 4-11 in their last 15 games...ND and Highlands are not the same teams they were 2013. Both are still strong teams but without D1 players, stability takes a major hit. It's been said all year long, the 9th region is wide open...although NCC has shown the most consistency in their game.

There were many contenders in the field this year with lots of exciting games. Most every game came down to the final few minutes of play - I saw 5 games that way! When Cooper beat Brossart, the Mustangs had the lead the entire game until Cooper hit 2 huge 3's in the final minute of the game. The game was played at 11am the day so I'd guess Brossart had their usual JV roster. SK is good no doubt, but it certainly wouldn't have been a given they'd win it all here. Dixie vs. SK regular season game was a fun one to watch, being decided by 3 pts in the final minute. At the end of the day, they are still high school kids:) Anything can happen. Congrats to Cooper for winning the championship. They played well and certainly earned it.
