  1. With that schedule, I don't think 5-5 is a bad achievement. That being said, injuries could play a key role in the W-L column. I wouldn't be shocked with them being 3-7 if the injury bug gets them. If they stay healthy, I wouldn't be all that shocked to see them 7-3 either.
  2. Scott is doing some really nice things and they are starting to really draw/keep kids in the program. That being said, they won't be much of a test for SK. Scott's defense will not stop SK
  3. Look out for a kid at HC named Derek Barnes! The kid is a freak and can really play ball. He will be a junior this year and I believe is a true D1 talent. He was ineligible last year, so this will be his year to make a statement
  4. Joe Walter's kid said he wasn't playing football anymore and he was just going to focus on basketball
  5. Who said that he wasn't going to hire any teachers? Why don't you give the guy time to find a staff that he thinks will help him succeed? It's reactions like this why a lot of coaches stay away from Covcath. Even if the entire staff was all paraprofessionals, does that mean they can't coach your kids to understand what it takes to be successful? Give it a rest already! Let the man hire his staff and then judge him if you want. So far, he seems to have hired some qualified people
  6. Just had that confirmed as well. He is definitely on the staff
  7. Not a stock broker, so you can let go of your hope. You did beat Beechwood and congrats for that. You make it sound as if you dominated them and there was a big difference in talent. I don't believe that was the case at all. They didn't play well and you capitalized. You didn't play well against Williamsburg and still managed to win. For that reason alone, you are the 1A state champions. Not sure what you are getting so upset with, but no one can take that away from you. Regardless, that not many on here think your team was as dominate this year
  8. Jealousy will happen when you are successful. I think the thing that bugs you the most is the fact that no one was impressed with Mayfield this year, as compared to other years. That is a testament to how good the Mayfield teams have been. The trump card to this thinking is that they still won it all in a "down" year for Mayfield standards. Take it as a compliment my friend
  9. I don't put a lot of stock in how teams play at the beginning of the year. Yes, Mayfield beat Graves at the beginning of the year, so did Murray. It is all about how you finish and Graves became a better team as the year went on, as with many title contending teams. There are some really good teams in 5A that fizzled out by the end of the year. I wasn't thinking 5A teams in this conversation, but obviously there is facts to support the case of those teams being in this conversation. There are some teams that started slow and finished great. If we are judging how the teams played as they finished, I'm not sure Mayfield would beat Beechwood again. I'm not sure Desales beats CAL or Murray again. I'm not sure Belfry beats Central. That's why I think this post is good to see how teams passed the eyeball test of avid fans throughout the states. No dog in the fight, but as a fan, these teams could compete with each other all day every day with a different outcome each time. If I had to take one team and put them against anyone in 1A, 2A, 3A, and 5A, I would take Bowling Green and they didn't even make it to the title game. Parity at all levels in the state of Ky. I will take this conversation one step further, I would really love to see 4 classes again.........ok, off my soapbox now
  10. Desales, Murray, CAL, Mayfield, Beechwood, Belfry, and Central are the tops of the list imo. I think any of these teams could beat each other, but I think 2A football was better than 1A and 3A overall this year. I don't think that has been the case in many years
  11. If the best teams in 1A-3A played, who would win and why?
  12. OK, no dog in this fight. Seeing both teams play this year, I thought that BW would win. They didn't play their best and Mayfield made them pay for mistakes. Mayfield made the plays to win. It doesn't matter who thinks their team is better, Mayfield moves on. End of story. Both schools have had great teams in the past and both have great teams this year. I wish these teams would play in the season since they won't be playing in the post season. It is usually a very competitive game and, as a fan of great football, always great to watch.
  13. Come on! If he was held every play, someone would've called it numerous times. Let the guy say what he wants, WV moves on and that is the most important stat.....PERIOD
  14. Agreed. Imo, whoever makes defensive stops, wins
  15. Don't get me wrong, WV can definitely win this game. I never said that. I did say that Newport is more talented. If u don't think that Newport has boat loads of talent, u haven't seen them play. I never said the WV team doesn't have nice athletes, I just said Newport has way more, imo. Does talent guarantee victories, no it doesn't. I have seen both teams play, this Newport is my vote to win a close and competitive game
  16. I am taking Newport in this one and the winner will have to play defense. WV gave up a lot of yards on the ground last night to HC. Newport is way better than HC. Newport tends not to be disciplined at times, and you must be disciplined to stop WV. Newport has more talent, but WV is a stingy team that will not quit. Newport 35-21
  17. You beat me to it!!!! I figure SK would have 25-30 at least
  18. I think Newport is the team to beat on their side of the district. NCC is the only team that can beat them, IMO. Walton has had a great year, but has already lost to Newport once and Newport is much better now. I could be way off on this because Newport has been very undisciplined at times this year and that could cost them a win against the better teams
  19. Too much parity in this class
  20. You can't count Beechwood out this year, imo. I think it is a 2way race. However, Williamsburg could pull of a win in the championship game like Hazard did a few years ago if Beechwood and Mayfield beat each other up badly in the semis
  21. Im happy the kid is back in a situation that makes him happy. Somerset is a good community and Im sure he will do well there. Dealing with a parent, that apparently is an idiot, should not count against the kid. The focus should be on the well being of the kid because he has seen and been thru a lot. Seeing your parent go to jail has to be traumatic
  22. After seeing every 2A team in NKY play, I believe Newport not only wins this one, but I believe they will make it the farthest in the playoffs. Newport is very physical and has a lot of talent. This team is a scary matchup for anyone up here in 2A. NCC is the team to beat obviously, but Newport can make a run just like HC did a few years ago with the talent they have
  23. Totally agree. A guy who proves that he can win a state title at a small school, obviously knows something about football. The guy gets very little pay and still does all of the cleaning, loading of equipment, cutting of grass, and painting of the fields(for no additional pay) aside from his teaching and coaching duties at the school. Not many head coaches would do this for their schools for free in my opinion. He has shown his loyalty to the school and the players. HC needs to show their loyalty to him.....in my opinion
  24. I believe a lot of factors are to blame for the tailspin with the football record. The economy wasn't great so to spend $6000/yr on tuition wasn't feasible for many people. For the families that can afford the tuition, the resurgence of CovCath took a lot of the Catholic talent away from the other parochial schools with their newer facilities and success in many areas. Just take a look at NCC and Brossart right now. Its not just the football team that has suffered. All of their sports teams are down right now. Im sure that the sports teams will eventually get better, but they are just in a down cycle. In my opinion only, I don't think the coaches or football coach is what is needing to be replaced. I would take a good look at the administration if I were going to make changes. They are the first line of people who can attract prospective students to the school
