If the best teams in 1A-3A played, who would win and why?

Desales really impressed me a lot. I'd take them over any team in the 3 classes

Probably comes down to DeSales and Mayfield. I would give the slight edge to Mayfield, I think their overall team speed would bother DeSales. But it's close.

I agree.

 

Belfry and DeSales both had dominant defenses but DeSales had a better offense, especially when Pirtle wasn't banged up. I think they win 1A,2A,3A, and the 5A Championship.

 

I am about to catch wrath for this but Mayfield disappointed me. Usually I expect to see a team as good as nearly any team playing on Championship Weekend..instead I saw a team that looked like a 1A school, a very good one mind you, but not the usual machine I am accustomed to seeing.

 

If I had to do a composite Top 10 of the "Small Schools"

 

1. DeSales

2. Belfry

3. CAL

4. Mayfield

5. Williamsburg

6. Central

7. South Warren

8. Murray

9. Bechwood

10. NewCath

Usually I say yes, but don't agree this year. Mayfield wasn't as stout up front as usual and their defense wasn't as impressive as it normally is. With that said, Mayfield looked to be a young team so I think they rebound to form quickly.

Desales, Murray, CAL, Mayfield, Beechwood, Belfry, and Central are the tops of the list imo. I think any of these teams could beat each other, but I think 2A football was better than 1A and 3A overall this year. I don't think that has been the case in many years

I agree in terms of the top of the class... after about #5 though it was pretty clear there was a big drop in 2A

 

I think 1-10 1A may actually have been the strongest class. Lots of parody after those 3 teams (Mayfield, Beechwood, Wburg) that seemed to be really good, but not great.

I'm only going with DeSales with the way the two teams played in the championship game. Mayfield didn't impress me at all as in years past. Their D-Line was the best part of their team. DeSales looked solid in every aspect of the game.

I would take DeSales by 2 touchdowns over Mayfield, based solely on watching them both in Bowling Green.

I'd take Mayfield based on their entire 2014 body of work in a 1 game scenario.

i can't comment on Mayfield or Desales. Never saw Desales play. I have been thinking about Mayfield though. This wasn't supposed to be our best season, it was a pretty common idea that this years team might lose 4 games or so. It was also a pretty common thought that McCracken County was going to crush us. I think the kids this year surprised us, both in being better than we thought, and tougher to beat than we thought. A great group of kids who really got after it. I see the comments about other people's perspective on Mayfield based on what they saw in Bowling Green, and I can't totally disagree, I didn't think it was our best game or effort. Gotta give credit to your opponent on that issue of course, but I don't believe anybody who only saw the state final saw Mayfield at our best. In a one game scenario against anyone else in 5, 3,2, 1a, i will go with Mayfield.

Sorry, I know you're a fan of your team and all, but reading your post about how they weren't one of the better Mayfield teams yet they are probably the best team out of the 4 classes makes me wonder a little about what you use to base that of of.

 

First putting them as the best in 5A makes me laugh. They wouldn't beat not only Pulaski Co. but they wouldn't come close to Bowling green and they'd lose to Graves and Cooper also. Just sayin

Mayfield beat Graves 21-0. I saw the Pulaski/Graves game and I think Mayfield could beat Pulaski ,not with the game they had in 1A title game but with one of their better games. Never saw DeSales play but if Murray hung with them......

i dont think you are correct when you say Mayfield would lose to graves. We played them, and we beat them. Beat them worse than anybody else did. Beat em worse than Pulaski did. I am glad my post provided amusement to you, and everyone and anyone is entitled to disagree with my opinion. your post likewise provided amusement to me when you say how graves would beat us....-checks the schedule and scores again- yep, we beat em all right.

Ok, you beat Graves, but you will never convince me they are better than any team in 5A
