Desales defense was extremely good. Based on that I think they could beat and compete with any team in the state.

Forgot to mention their kicking game. Even if they don't score a td, their kicker was accurate enough to keep putting points on the board to keep things close.

Also happened to be their QB.

The funny thing about Mayfield, they didn't pass the eyeball test all year, even to it's own fans. Most knowledgeable Cardinal fans saw this team and didn't put it on the level of the 10,12 or 13 teams. Not as fast, a new QB, smaller in the trenches, no big play WR, etc.. However, as the season wore on, they continued to just win and do it impressively against teams who actually looked the part.. Tilghman, Murray, Graves, Caldwell and even Russellville looked like the better team with the "so-called" eyeball test, but, Mayfield won convincingly against each.. By the way, the Graves game was the 5th game of the year, not exactly 1st of the year as some on here have said.. With every win, the fans became more confident and probably over hyped them. But, in the end, they're hanging #11 in the trophy case, despite what the eyeball test says. This team was a blue collar, opportunistic team that what they lacked in talent, they made up for in playing hard and smart and getting the most out of there abilities. The great thing is, the majority of this years team returns along with some fantastic underclassmen, so, they should be right back in the thick of things next year and may even pass the eyeball test again..

 

PS : I do wish Mayfield would get rid of the all black look or at least spruce up the uniforms a little. The all red helmets, I can live with, but, they're uni's are pretty plain, imo and they could do a lot better..

I happen to LOVE the all black look, only thing that would be better would be flat black helmets, now that would be awesome!

Newcath averaged 108 yards per game passing. That is not balance like Mayfield has. Like I showed earlier 218 beat them 104 did not.

 

If you take averages for the whole season then yes. They lost starting QB in scrimmage and made transition to Hentchen during the second game. They then played Dixie and Simon Kenton. At the end of the year, over the last 7 games prior to DeSales their passing game really picked up in efficiency.

Can't we just enjoy our title. You can't compare how team A beats Team B to decide if Team C can beat Team F. It's all about match ups. IMO we beat Mayfield. It's easy to say how balanced you are, but our defense dominated offenses all year long.

IMO Mayfield would prevail vs Desales, you faced no one as good as Mayfield. In fact Mf would have won AA this year more easily than 1A. You beat a okay Murray and a fair NCC team. CAL was the Colts best win. Desales was not as good as Bw in my opinion. This young MF team will not be so young next year and I like what I see for us in AA. I would much rather deal with the Colts than BW next year

I agree. It's funny, my son posted something on Twitter which was pretty funny. Talking about teams that beat other teams that played other teams etc., he plays for Oberlin College and it was a list of teams that played other teams that ayes other teams and it started with a team Oberlin beat Alleghany and Alleghany beat someone who beat someone who beat someone and it went all

the way up to the team that beat Alabama this year and in conclusion it said so this means Onerlin College is better than Alabama lol.

CAL was better, and Warren Central would have given you problems. You guys would have struggled to put up points against us. We beat Mayfield this year, and last. We did play the last 2 games against Murray, and NCC without our top back. I saw Mayfield play. We are bigger, faster, and more disciplined. You would not have beaten us this year, nor CAL for that matter.

Good thing is all the talk can end. Next year, you get the chance to back up what you say. Again, this isn't the 2A that you guys played in before. We were playing in 4A then, and CAL wasn't around. Your road is a lot tougher now.

This is one of those arguments that I think is unwinable and a crazy idea but, I will try to share my thoughts on the matter any way. First, you cannot base Mayfield off the state championship game other than to see that our bunch plays with the heart to win at all costs and no matter what the stats show. In that game we played a very good team that was underrated. I have a boy on the red and black and can tell you for sure they were a little to confident going in and did not adjust until down by 10. Williamsburg on the other hand played an out of body experience that only could be caused by a full year of humiliation.

 

Now here is a break down that you can use to gauge what we did.

1) played #6 team in 6a to a 1 point game in double ot on their field

2) beat #8 team in 3a by four touchdowns

3) beat semi finalist in 2a, Murray, on their field by 11 points. Not 7 like DeSales. Just hours after learning of the loss on a senior in a tragic event.

4) beat state runner up in 5a on their field in a shut out 21-0.

5) beat one hard nosed power type northern ky team on their field by 2 scores.

 

Now, we will never know how this would go but, when looking at all of this, I feel real good about this. Now with the improvements expected on the offensive line next year, I really like what I see.

I don't know about tougher, or a lot tougher, but i agree it is our road til someone takes it from us.

Colt pride, when did you beat us this year and last? I thought I went to all of our games. I don't recall losing to them. We lost to Caldwell in a questionable game at Caldwell and to McCracken by 1 point in double OT on their field.
