I know exactly what he is talking about, Miller doesnt play up to his talent level, he plays hard when he "feels" like it, it is not 'automatic" His upside is unlimited, but he will be an underachiever if he doesnt get a little more "fire in his belly" It is not unusual for kids with an overabundance of talent learn to get by on less than 100% effort all the time, Hopson seems to have the same issue as does Brooks. Compare their effort to someone like a Stephon Pettigrew, that is my definition of a "hard worker" who maximizes his talent. Those guys can't come close to matching Pettigrew's intensity.

Lions probally have a slight edge on the Floor Rams have an edge on the bench Mullins is going to have to duplicate his effort from Thursday to give the RAms a shot against the Lions pressure, that will be the difference in the game, Rams handle the pressure, Rams win, over 20 turnovers, and Lions win Should be a classic! Russell did a nice job of stopping the game and recognizing Jon for his accomplishment, Daily independent did a nice write up this morning http://www.dailyindependent.com/localsports A lot of people put a lot of time into Jon's basketball life. Special thanks to Coach Dodd and staff at Russell, Jon's teammates, and all those guys that played a big part of making the summers fun and worthwhile. Winter is for team development, and summer is for individual devolpment. Guys like Ty Barnes, Joe Barker, Kris Vance and David Smart all pitched in the last few summers to make it fun and helped Jon to develop as a player and a person I guess I'm kinda proud of him:thumb:

Well, you gotta have HOPE, and you can play a lot of 'what ifs" but there are really only TWO teams that have a real chance at Morehead this year, but I don't think this board could handle it if I told you which ones they were but YOU know

Fairview may indeed pull off an upset, but to expect any team with key players as 9th graders, even led by Mr. Barker, is just not going to happen 3 nights in a row, there is a big difference between getting one upset and winning three in a row at Morehead, and thats when the list gets real short

Benji Mullins played the game of his career tonight, I thought he made a big difference, Euton never got a clean look all night, Jackson looked a little fatigued and couldnt get in the paint, and Rose Hill never really threatened in the 2nd half. Coach Johnson did a great job but would probally give bluegrass preps an "assist" for getting his team ready to play

I remember that game, Rose Hill and the boys won by about 30, but it may have been a showcase and they could have not counted it? Oj had about 30+ mostly in the first half

Friday night at Russell vs Bath County

Ty has been instrumental in developing a lot of the younger players that want to work in the area. You can find him working all summer with kids like Van Hoose, Alex Barker, Drew Johnson and others whenever they want to work on their game, great guy and role model and he can still beat the kids he is working out with :thumb:

The Rams are exactly the kind of team that can cause the Royals problems. I don't think they are quite strong enough to handle the pressure, but they will give the Royals a much better game than what they have been getting, it won't be a "blowout"! Look for Coach Johnson to have his kids "fired up":thumb: and actually hold the lead sometime in the 2nd half

Now that was a SQUAD! Maybe their greatest accomplishment was winning the Beckley YMCA tournament, becoming the first school team in history to win that tournament that was set up for all star/aau teams. In the championship game, they beat a team out of Virginia (who had beaten a Bill Walker led team in the semi's) who had come in third in the YBOA nationals the previous year. One of the most entertaining teams to watch ever, every player was a guard, no real big man (unless you could call Austin Blair and Matt Thomas "big") but they played the best team ball of any team I've been around plus they obviously, always found a way to win!:thumb: Thanks for the memory

Not to be one to split hairs, but I believe the forehead tattoo was a "PRE-PRE-parting " gift :laugh: The PRE-parting gift would then be a WARNING AND finally, the Parting gift would be a lifetime membership in the MAROON MAFIA, who I have been told banned the mention of Bluegrass Preps and now makes board members swear off any association with such!!:scared:

Lex Cath did not play as well as they could have, I think Scott County will give them a better game because Walls and Mackey can handle the pressure better than the Lex Cath guards did on Saturday, not saying Scott County will win, just that the final margin will be much closer and Patterson will get a lot more tired than he did yesterday. Huntington High only goes 6 deep and I think Scott County will try to wear them down. Where will this game be played at? If its Scott County, that is worth another ten points

Ryan Bonner made the play of the game and almost gave his team a chance to win it, with his team trailing by 4 with around 2 minutes to go, he grabs Ross Turners jersey/pinches/punches or something to that effect but he got Ross to swing an elbow to get him off of him, when Ross does, he flops and gets the young ref (who shouldnt have been calling the game, he was way over his head, but that is another story) to call a technical. Wilcox goes to the line, makes two, and Ashland had the ball with a chance to tie or take the lead. Now that I think of it, why didnt he call a foul and a technical if he saw what he saw? Giving Ashland 4 free throws? Anyhow, the 2nd best play of the game was Russell stopping Ashland and Scott Gill running the floor for a Layup to put Russell back up by 4 and end any real chance Ashland had of winning. Kudos to Bonner, only a sophomore, for coming up with a play to give his team a chance, the young ref seemed to make most of the calls tonight, and several were "questionable", including calling a very nice spin move a walk, looks like he just "anticpated" the walk, but it cost Russell a basket and it appeared the other ref was about to call a foul on the play. Just wondering how he got scheduled in a game like this? Did he arrive too late for the JV game?:laugh: The other two refs called a good game, but this guy almost made a huge difference, and I believe he was the one calling all the fouls on Scott Gill and keeping him on the bench.
