Cooper comes back with a great performance against Great Crossing after their big win over Sacred Heart last night. The Lady Jaguars shot 56.4% from the field including 10 of 23 from beyond the arc. They connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 20 Great Crossing turnovers. Haylee Noel led the way with 26 points, nine rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. Alivia Scott added 18 points. Addyson Brissey recorded 16 points, four assists, and three steals. Brinkli Rankin added 13 points including three three point baskets. Maya Custard led Great Crossing with 29 points including seven three point baskets, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Madison Webb to me would be the logical hire to replace Coach Thacker.

It is rumored that Brian Tribble will be the next girls coach at Henry Clay. If so, it would be a good hire, excellent knowledge of the game and really will have the ability to develop young talent. Brian has the ability to instill confidence in his players as he teaches and gets them to believe in themselves.

According to Bob Tonini who does Sacred Heart's Stats the "iron 5" of Simon Kenton played the entire game logging 36 minute each. Brynli Pernell 22 points 4 's, Bella Ober 21 points 3 3's, Haylie Webb 13 points 9 rebounds,Anna Kelch 12 points 4 3's 5 rebound 5 assists, Megan Gadzala 7 points 5 rebounds. The Lady Pioneers were 12 of 25 from the three point line. Za'Kiyah Johnson led Sacred Heart with 25 points 12 rebounds 6 assists 6 steals, Tootie Jordan 16 points 2 rebounds 5 assists 4 steals, Morgan Frey 15 points 4 rebounds 3 steals. Sacred Heart was whistled for 24 fouls with Za'Kiyah Johnson, Tootie Jordan, and Morgan Frey all having five fouls. Simon Kenton had 19 turnovers that the Valkyries converted to 27 points. The Lady Pioneers met every challenge and when Sacred Heart was forced to foul in overtime they hit enough free throws to ensure the victory. A big victory for the Lady Pioneers and definitely marks them as a team to be reckoned with come tournament time.

Madison Central rebounded from two consecutive losses with a 78-48 victory over Ryle at Franklin County High School today. Madison Central shot 53.8% from the field including 11 of 21 from the three point line and scored 29 points off 18 Ryle turnovers. It should be noted that Ryle star guard Jaelyn Jones did not play today due to an injury. Cameryn Ridderikhoff led Madison Central with 25 points, five rebounds, and five steals. Nataya Strader added 24 points including five three point baskets, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Brittany Campbell recorded 17 points including three three point baskets, four rebounds, six assists, and three steals. Brooke Campbell added six points, six rebounds, seven assists, and three steals. Laynee Hampton led Ryle with 13 points including two three point baskets, two rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jayden McClain added 10 points, four rebounds, and three blocked shots. Ava Warner recorded 10 points and four rebounds. Emerson Dowell chipped in with eight points, two rebounds, two assists, and three steals. Great game tonight tied 50-50 at the end of three quarters, eight ties and 10 lead changes in the game. Jaelee Knowles led Frederick Douglass with 27 points, 14 rebounds, two blocked shots, and three steals. Tamia Waide added 14 points, two rebounds, and two assists. Mikalee Bennett recorded seven points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Nataya Strader led Madison Central with 21 points, three rebounds, five assists, and three steals. Brittany Campbell added 15 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Cameryn Ridderikhoff had 11 points and five rebounds. Key stats: Frederick Douglass held a 34-25 advantage in rebounds and a 15-5 edge in second chance baskets while Madison Central was only 13 of 25 from the free throw line. However Frederick Douglass only connected on 11 of 19 free throws.

North Laurel got off to a fast start and led 55-33 after three quarters but Madison Central turned up the defensive pressure on their press and cut the final margin down to 12 points. North Laurel's length and athleticism made the difference on both ends of the court as they blocked seven shots and the 5-11 Brooke Nichelson and 6-2 Mariella Claybrook made it difficult for the Lady Indians to score inside. Nichelson, a Murray State signee led the way with 37 points, seven rebounds, two assists, three blocked shots, and four steals. Mariella Claybrook added 12 points, 12 rebounds, five assists, four blocked shots, and three steals. Bella Sizemore recorded seven points, two rebounds, and five assists. Nataya Strader scored 16 points for Madison Central and pulled down five rebounds. Brittany Campbell added 14 points, four rebounds, four assists, and six steals. Cameryn Ridderikhoff recorded 13 points, two rebounds, and three steals. Madison Central returns to action Friday night when they entertain region foe Frederick Douglass at home and play Ryle at Franklin County High School on Saturday. On a side note Brooke Nichelson is the real deal, extremely quick and athletic, elevates over defenders for her jump shot, has good range on her shot, and almost impossible to defend once she gets "downhill" driving to the basket. 6-2 Mariella Claybrook is an underclassman with unlimited potential, tall with a long wingspan, active around the rim, good free throw line jump shot, good rebounder, and big time rim protector.

LCA was led by their "Swiss Army Knife" Piper Graham who continues to check all the stats boxes with 19 points, 10 rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Claire Roberts added 18 points including three three point baskets, and six rebounds. Chapel Brown recorded 16 points including three three point baskets, 12 rebounds, and five assists. Ella Gabbert returns after missing time with an injury and recorded nine points on three three point baskets. Ella Decker led Ohio County with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Emerson Gray added 13 points and three rebounds.

Madison Central won a thriller over West Jessamine in a game that featured nine ties and 19 lead changes. The score was tied 60-60 at the end of regulation and Madison Central outscored West Jessamine 18-8 in the overtime period. Madison Central's pressure defense forced 21 West Jessamine turnovers which the Lady Indians converted to 25 points. West Jessamine nailed 12 three point shots and held a 39-33 advantage in rebounds. Cameryn Ridderikhoff led Madison Central with 32 points including three three point baskets. Nataya Strader added 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. Jordynn Miles chipped in with nine points and Brittany Campbell recorded eight points, seven rebounds, eight assists, and two steals. Tiana Long continues her stellar play off the bench with six points and three rebounds. Brooke Campbell continues her role as the unsung hero with three points, six rebounds, and three steals plus always drawing the toughest defensive assignment despite her size (5-7). Katie Mastin led West Jessamine with 17 points including five three point baskets, five rebounds, and seven assists. Claire Marshall added 16 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Isabella Lewis added 13 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists. Kimberly Johnson recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds. Kayulee Yocum chipped in with six points and seven rebounds. The Lady Colts were without the services of starting guard Arianna McLoney who was out with a knee injury.

West Jessamine outscored Grant County 22-10 in the final quarter to earn the 51-41 come-from-behind victory in the Billy Hicks Classic Championship Game. West Jessamine was led by the "double-double machine" Claire Marshall with 19 points, 15 rebounds, and five assists. Isabelle Lewis added 14 points and five rebounds. Katie Mastin recorded 11 points, three rebounds, and four steals. Jada Cummins led Grant County with 17 points and seven rebounds. Caroline Barnes added 12 points and three rebounds.

Hazard came back from 29-22 deficit at halftime to defeat Estill County by the score of 61-44. Hazard was led by 5-9 Fr. Maddi Frohnapfel (remember this name even if you can't pronounce it) with 26 points including four three point baskets, eight of 11 free throws, seven rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Soph Braylynn Eddington added 15 points and 14 rebounds. Soph Laura Everidge recorded 11 points, six rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Hazard has a fine group of young talent but suffered a blow this season as another promising Soph Hannah Caudill suffered an ACL injury which sidelined her but the future is bright. Estill County was led today by veteran sharp shooter Jayci Long with 22 points including three three point baskets, seven of 10 free throws, eight rebounds, and three steals. Callie Snowden added 10 points and four steals. Ava Hale recorded seven points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.

Both teams entered this game with 4-0 records but Madison Central came out on top today. Madison Central led 26-20 at the half but pulled away in the second half for the victory. Madison Central's team speed and suffocating defense appeared to give the Lady Eagles problems at times as they held a 14-0 advantage on fast break points and managed to get into the paint to earn a 32-10 advantage in points scored in the paint while LCA did most of their damage from long range. Logan Kennedy hit a jump shot at the buzzer to give Franklin County a 51-49 victory over Frederick Douglass in a battle between two of the top contenders to capture the 11th Region crown this year. The score was tied six times and there were 11 lead changes in this game. Franklin County took a 40-32 after three quarters but Frederick Douglass rallied and actually took a 44-43 lead with 3:35 left in the game until Franklin County rallied for the victory. Franklin County held a 45-32 advantage in rebounding. Madison Jackson led Franklin County with 15 points including two three point baskets, and five rebounds. Juliana Frazee added 10 points and nine rebounds. 5-10 7th Grader Jylin Edmondson recorded nine points and two rebounds. Logan Kennedy chipped in with four points and eight rebounds. Ma'Kiyia Wheeler added four points, six rebounds, and six assists. Keyonna Taylor added four points and 10 rebounds. Franklin County has a veteran squad but the future is bright with some talented young players including 7th graders Jylin Edmondson and La'Kiyah Taylor who are already getting extended varsity minutes. They also have an excellent young playmaker in Soph. Ma'Kiya Wheeler. Jaelee Knowles is a very athletic player who can jump out of the gym and led Frederick Douglass with 18 points, 12 rebounds, and six blocked shots. They also have a future star in 8th Grader Tamia Wade who transferred in from Henry Clay and scored 11 points and four steals. Kate Baler is an experienced guard with down town range and added nine points on three three point baskets and five rebounds. Frederick Douglass will only get better as they are adjusting to life with out 6-1 Ayanna Darrington who graduated, long range bomber Niah Rhodes who transferred to a school in Tennessee, and Amayah Maxwell who transferred to GRC. However the addition of Waide and Nia Carr who transferred in from Great Crossing will really speed up the process. This was only round one between these two programs and expect them to be among the favorites to compete for regional supremacy later this year.

Good showing for Frederick Douglass considering two of their top players from last year Armelo Boone has transferred to Woodford County and Aveion Chenault chose to focus on football.

Amari Owens led Bryan Station with 30 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals. Rashaad Faulkner added 16 points, four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Taeshawn Adams recorded 13 points, four rebounds, and two assists. Jake Feldhaus led Madison Central with 29 points, 18 rebounds, two assists, and two blocked shots. Feldhaus was four of seven from the three point line. Luke Asher added 15 points including three three point baskets, and four rebounds.

Madison Central earned a big road victory with1 54-49 victory over Montgomery County. There were five ties and nine lead changes in the game. Montgomery held a commanding 38-23 margin in rebounding but suffered 17 turnovers. Madison Central was led by Cameryn Ridderikhoff with 24 points including eight of nine free throws, three rebounds, and two steals. Nataya Strader added 12 points, three rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Jordynn Miles recorded 10 points and four rebounds. Baylee Warner led Montgomery County with 17 points, 14 rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots. Addison Terry added 14 points including three three point baskets, and four rebounds. Savannah Jarvis recorded six points, three rebounds, and two blocked shots. Raegan Mays added five points and 10 rebounds and Sophie Fouch dished added three points, four rebounds, and dished out six assists. Madison Central is small but exceptionally quick and plays a suffocating defense which triggers their offense. Montgomery County has excellent length in Savannah Jarvis, Baylee Warner, and Addison Terry. Baylee has worked hard on her game and is a versatile scoring threat, a solid rebounder, and runs the floor well. Addison Terry transferred in this year and adds a lot to this team. They are a relatively young team and will improve steadily throughout the year.

Madison Central was led by Luke Asher with 16 points. Newcomer Jake Feldhaus added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Will Richardson chipped in with 13 points.

Lexington Catholic graduated a large senior class last season. Tonight they shot 29.5% from the field including 4 of 22 from beyond the arc. North Laurel shot 58.5% from the field and scored 18 points off 16 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Reece Davidson came up big tonight with 27 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Lexington Catholic got off to a slow start trailing 16-7 after the first quarter and actually lost in every quarter.

Sacred Heart led 50-34 at halftime and broke the game open with a 24-8 third quarter advantage. Sacred Heart Academy scored 39 points off 26 Campbell County turnovers. I saw Notre Dame Academy at the pre-season scrimmage at Franklin County and if looks like they are the real deal. lots of size and a very deep roster. Emma can shoot it from another area code and the transfer from Boone County will be a big help. Deep, talented roster and excellent coaching would seem to forecast a big season but the region will test any team, competition everywhere.

Madison Central has a very experienced team and Pulaski County graduated a lot of their scoring punch. lost one promising young inside player to Southwestern, and another talented player decided not to play this season but this team will steadily improve as the season progresses.
