Holy Cross 69 St. Henry 39
I'm hopeful that was coach Sturgeons intent- to use it as a learning experience. Doubtful they will play anyone else on the schedule with that much athleticism in the back court.

Holy Cross 69 St. Henry 39
I hope the Lady Cru learned a few things tonight. 1) Got to take better care of the ball. The TO's that they had in the previous three games didn't hurt them- these obviously did. 2) Dovetailing off of that is the ability to handle full court pressure better. Turner had to have at least 6 steals by herself. Dribbling into trouble or to the corner can't happen. Too much dribbling. 3) Holy Cross is exceptionally athletic in the back court- guards drove the lane almost at will. I would have liked to have seen St Henry change up the D and go from Man to Zone- or a box and one. Anything but Man. IMO the only players who had a chance to stay in front of the Holy Cross perimeter players were Miller and Noble- but even that was a lot to ask. On a semi positive note for. St Henry, the Lady Cru Frosh won their game in convincing manner and the JV team came from 10 down to tie it up @35 with a minute to go, went down again 37-35 with 30 seconds to go and had a chance to tie it at the buzzer but couldn't make it happen. Good showing.

Outlook for next year
Actually I think this fellow very much intended this to be a Highlands thread and had a kid in mind when he started his post. I'm guessing that he's figured out by now at he's not getting the answer he wanted- ie: that this kid will be playing Varsity as a Frosh.

Yeah- this pretty much confirms why I thought OP started the thread. Parents are parents- even in the Fort.

Starting to connect the dots on the OP's motivation for the thread.

No Ky Coaches Poll - Week #1
0-3 will do that to you. Doesn't really surprise me that NDA is struggling a little. Saw the talent coming into NDA several years ago and knew that unless they got some transfers or an influx of public school talent that they would take a step down. Not to say that they aren't going to turn it around because I'm sure they will- they have hard working kids and coaches- but I don't think they will be as good as last year.

St. Henry 56 Harrison County 34
Lady Cru took care of business. Need more consistency from the bench- especially since the teams MO is to press and push, using a lot of players. Also still need to continue improving on ball security. Jordan Miller had her best game thus far. Big one on Tues vs Holy Cross.

2015-2018 Approved Football Realignment
No- district opponents would have been Cov Cath, Highlands and Grant Co ( as they will next year). Cov Cath beat them, I'm sure Highlands would have beat them, thus more than likely making them the 3 seed in their district.

Congrats!!: Ally Niece Freshman of Simon Kenton reaches 1000 point club
Your not understanding what I said at all- I'm not a fan of anyone (public, parochial or otherwise) playing up from middle school to high school, then choosing to attend and to play that sport at another high school. So yes- had she ended up at NDA (or St Henry, or NCC for that matter) I would be making that same comment.

Congrats!!: Ally Niece Freshman of Simon Kenton reaches 1000 point club
Yeah- I remember that- wasn't crazy about that either frankly. I know the circumstances there, were that Villa Madonna walked into the situation with eyes wide open- knowing full well CVH had no intention of attending high School at Villa. I wonder, was Scott under the same type of knowledge- ie: that she would eventually be attending SK? I remember the story of Racke attending a Cov Cath open house as an 8th grader and the SK basketball coaches essentially telling him that he wouldn't have any chance of playing on the SK Frosh or JV team if he entertained ideas about attending Cov Cath- which I don't disagree with BTW. Why invest time- and worse- take away time from someone else- if they aren't going to matriculate to your High School?

NKY Middle School Boys Basketball 2014/15
AJ and Michael Mayer are 1st cousins with the Maile family - their Mom is a Maile. So the looks (and obviously athletic talents) are similar.

Guess I don't understand the rules clearly. She played Varsity as a middle schooler for Scott and is now playing Varsity at SK as a Frosh? Playing Varsity at Scott didn't lock her in there? I guess I could see it if she was going private school to private- or private to public. But public to public?

P A Announcer issues
I'm sure this will illicit so e quick responses from the audience here- but Highlands Group of student PA announcers need to be tweaked. I think it's fantastic that they have created this opportunity to enter the media world - with game time and half time interviews etc- but many of the things mentioned above should be monitored a little tighter. I don't care so much about nicknames or getting the crowd fired up (to a point) but please just get down and distance and penalties called correctly- or leave it in the hands of a knowledgable adult. I will also say that Johnson Central gets an A for pre game atmosphere- and an F for in game. Playing all the audio and music clips you can squeeze into the 25 seconds between plays at ridiculously high volume levels is truly obnoxious.

The Dumbest Rule in Middle School Basketball - is it the same for High School???
Short memories. My guess is someone's kids team lost and looking for an excuse.

Saint Henry 2014/15
Can't start a topic so I'll add to this one. Lady Cru makes a clean sweep of Bishop Brossart last night. Frosh win (did not get score) JV wins 31-29 (coming back from a 10 point first half deficit Varsity wins 60-50 (also coming back from a 10 point deficit Fun game to watch- both teams had their share of highlights. Lady Cru Varsity also overcoming a 27-14 foul differential and far too many turnovers which needs to get cleaned up. Three starters with four fouls on the floor with four minutes left. Jordan Miller a whirlwind with drives and put backs, but needs to play more under control as one of the primary ball handlers. If that happens, great things will happen for this team IMO.

Kind of a dumb thing to be upset about really. Heck- coaches at the college and pro level call timeouts- why wouldn't a middle or high school coach be able to do the same? Ask the Bengals or their fans if they think it's stupid for a coach to be able to call time out. Based on the game saving time out that Lewis called in the Tampa game I doubt you'll find any that think that way.

Saint Henry 2014/15
Lady Cru scrimmaged Walton Verona at Highlands Saturday morning. Everyone a little sloppy - too many turnover all around- but I liked the hustle and heart of both teams. Don't know the girls name from Walton Verona, but she did a little of everything and clearly the team runs thru her. St Henry didn't get it down into Neace as much as I would have liked, but probably had a lot to do with Walton Verona pressing almost every possession and St Henry not getting a lot of designated plays run. IMO, Jordan Miller will prove to be the teams most valuable player. She's a whirlwind on the court. Needs to cut down on TO's but has all the tools. Overall St Henry won the first 20 min period- the second 20 min period ended in a tie with girls from St Henry's JV squad playing the last 5 minutes. Third 20 minute period between purely JV ended with St Henry winning. Actually St. Henry played their Frosh squad the last 15 minutes of the third period. Start it off with Bishop Brossart tomorrow night!

Trinity versus Dixie Heights: Who wins and Why?
If your that upset about no lights, how about ponying up yourself? Got years and years ahead playing each other now that Cov Cath and Dixie will be in the same 5A district together- you might as well quit crying about it and fork it over. BTW- Trinity by three TD's.

NKY Football Making A Statement Tonight
Guess I should have clarified. You don't have to attend a private/ parochial school to play for CYF. My bigger point- it all comes down to numbers. Ohio (and Cinti) has greater numbers- thus more athletes to choose from. It's not about a greater commitment to sports or to coaching. But I'll probably never make someone who dismisses academics as "silly" understand. You might think CPS emphasizes athletics over academics, but I assure you that is not the administrations goal and in fact, would consider themselves a failure if that is the case.

NKY Football Making A Statement Tonight
Colonel Youth Football is the youth feeder league to Cov Cath- not a public school. The GCYL is the Greater Cincinnati Youth League for Area Catholic grade schools.

...and hallelujah for that. Cincinnati public schools are a train wreck.
