Holy Cross goes to 3 - 0 St. Henry drops to 3-1

HC press caused major issues all night for the Crusaders. Had to be close to 25 turnovers. HC played without Cessie Mayhaus.

I hope the Lady Cru learned a few things tonight.

1) Got to take better care of the ball. The TO's that they had in the previous three games didn't hurt them- these obviously did.

2) Dovetailing off of that is the ability to handle full court pressure better. Turner had to have at least 6 steals by herself. Dribbling into trouble or to the corner can't happen. Too much dribbling.

3) Holy Cross is exceptionally athletic in the back court- guards drove the lane almost at will. I would have liked to have seen St Henry change up the D and go from Man to Zone- or a box and one. Anything but Man. IMO the only players who had a chance to stay in front of the Holy Cross perimeter players were Miller and Noble- but even that was a lot to ask.

 

On a semi positive note for. St Henry, the Lady Cru Frosh won their game in convincing manner and the JV team came from 10 down to tie it up @35 with a minute to go, went down again 37-35 with 30 seconds to go and had a chance to tie it at the buzzer but couldn't make it happen. Good showing.

Agreed! Not sure why anyone that knows this team at all would not play a zone or chaser? However, you never know what's going through coach's heads. Was he using the matchup as a learning experience? Because that's what all these games really are until the district. I have taken a loss in the past that could have been closer or maybe even a win to prove a point or force kids out of a comfort zone. Sometimes those things pay off in the long run.

I think HHS and Holmes may be very close to what you saw last night. Both have very good, athletic guards that really get after you on defense. And athletic depth at the position...not just the starters.

From what I saw last night, unless something major changes, St. Henry is going to have a hard time staying within 10-15 of this HC team. Way too athletic on the perimeter for the Cru and Savannah Neace (A really nice player) could only do so much down low on Ally Mayhaus. Ally has expanded her game to include the 3 as she knocked down a couple from the top of the key last night. When Cessie Mayhaus gets back in action HC will be much stronger in the paint.

 

Last night "could" have been a preview of the All A Finals in January as Holy Cross and St.Henry are on opposites sides of the draw. NCC and Beechwood in with HC so they will have a tougher time getting out to the final. St. Henry should walk to the finals.

 

I had to get this in as I know RCC9 just loves talking about the "small schools" All A tournament. LOL.

Boone County had some serious athletes in their back court as well!! Really fast girls!!

RCC9 - I'm not sure how to answer that as anything I say would sound biased for HC. If you watched the game I'm not quite sure what STH "held back" for a potential future game. I just saw a much more talented and athletic team. St. Henry is going to win a lot of games but will struggle against the Top 4-5 teams in the region IMO.
