  1. Again, this isnt about the holdback part, it is about the eligibility under the 4 years to play part. If what I was told is true, I think that one of the teams still competing plays a player that is actually ineligible. I thought that if you finish 8th grade you have four years to compete and the clock starts at the completion of 8th grade. If you move and repeat 8th grade you will not be eligible your senior year, the clock does not restart.
  2. I believe that Johnson Central is the early favorite on the East side. Ashland will have to get over that hurdle. I expect these two teams to play twice this year.
  3. To be straight, my question does not have anything to do with being held back by itself. That is solely a decision by the parents and as long as it is done within the rules it is fair. All parents have the option. My question is about the eligibility part of it. The way I understand things the athlete that was mentioned to me would not be eligible his senior year the way I interpret the current rules. I do not know the facts in the case just that the source was an educator within the school system where he plays which lends enough credibility in my mind to as the question.
  4. Reason I ask is that I heard that a kid currently in the 16th region finished his 8th grade year at one school and then repeated 8th grade at another school. I thought that in this case he would be ineligible his senior year. I was Wondering if sitting out a year in high school would make him eligible his senior year since he only played four seasons.
  5. If he transfers in high school and sits a year could he then be able to compete his senior season?
  6. Will he have to sit out a year to be eligible his senior year
  7. If a current senior basketball player finished 8th grade, changed schools and repeated 8th grade, would he be eligible to play his senior year?
  8. Boyd=believes Elliott=fearless Rowan=favorite Greenup=mystery Morgan=hot Ashland=longshot Raceland=confident Fleming=tailspin On paper, Morgan vs Rowan with Rowan cutting down the nets. Crazy scenario, Ashland beats Boyd to go to Rupp with a record of 8-26.
  9. A long long time ago I can still remember how That musick used to make em smile And I knew if they had a chance They could could make those people dance And maybe they'd be happy for a while But February made me shiver With every paper that was delivered Bad news on the doorstep I couldn't take one more step I can't remember if I cried When I read about his sinful pride Something touched me deep inside The day the musick died
  10. Ashland has in a winning record in the month of February I think.
  11. Holy homonyms Batman this will be a dandy.
  12. Probably not since those are laser times for 20 yr old plus kids and he is 17. However, I believe he would be closer to the top than most would think.
  13. Speed is relevant to the competition. Numbers are great when trying to measure kids from different parts of the country. We can call his 40 a 8.0 if we want, bottom line for Baker is the fact that he was the fastest kid there. No matter what a stop watch has to say, he would be "top shelf" fast anywhere he goes.
  14. I would have to say yes. In the wins, why would a coach subject him to unnecassary collisions, no need for 25 and as I said, in the losses the JC and Ironton game were runaway games. I would like to see the number of touches for him by quarter in those games. I believe it would indicate that as in the wins once the outcome of the game is decided why give him the football? That would leave Russell and if I read post 12 correctly, you have him for 26 rushes. Do I think if he had 30 that Ashland would have won? Not really Russell won on a fake extra point in OT. Honestly I think his production can go up without more carries if the offense becomes a little more diversifed.
  15. I was counting the receptions as touches. So what you are saying is in the 6 wins he doesnt get 25 touches and in 2 of the five losses he gets 25 touches. And this supports the statement that he needs 25 touches?
  16. He got over 25 touches in two of Ashland's five losses according to your stats. JC and Ironton were train wrecks and Ashland was out of it early. One could make an argument that he was being spared the contact in those games. That leaves only GW and he touched it 22 times that game. Keep in mind this doesnt take into account the targets in the passing game, so he may have been over 25 in that game had they completed a couple more throws. Interestingly enough in the six wins his touches were all under 25.
  17. Baker and OBryan from Ashland will be in attendance.
  18. I see the core group of seniors putting in additional work at the Y. This outside their weight program. This has a chance to be an intriguing year. I anticipate some position changes and some innovation with personnel and if things fall in place and people stay healthy there is a chance it could be a special year. I cant help but think the game plan and effort against Highlands last year is having some carry over effect.
  19. The O line returns Goble, Broughton, and Kruger, and adds Pruitt who moved to Northern KY, played at Ryle and has moved back. Those four have a chance to be pretty good with size and athleticism. I agree that JC will be the hurdle. I dont believe Ashland can beat JC being a run dominated team. Honestly I dont think any team that is run only can beat JC. They beat Belfry last year 35-0 to illustrate my point. JC has problems with teams that spread and are more balanced running and throwing. If they can find a way to be more balanced it will only make Baker more difficult to defend. I look for the QB spot to be a competition in the spring and Dowdy may very well win the job but there are a couple of interesting possibilities in the mix. It will be interesting to see if this years senior group can be mentally tough and lead this team to a deep playoff run. I hope Ashland owns two victories over JC this year and is practicing on Thanksgiving.
  20. In life. I "coach" 8 employess, they are my team. I am willing to listen to the most experienced as well as the least experienced becuase sometimes a fresh perspective is needed and may open my eyes to something because I didnt think of it that way. I welcome their input and consider the information ultimately it is my decision to implement the process or change. As a coach, I would have no problem listening to others thoughts if we were struggling, but only if I ask. Also, I think coaches should not be so arrogant as to not ask for help when they need it. I would probably want player input first. Honest player input would make things more similar to real life. Parents need to realize they are not part of the team. That's why they pay to get in.
  21. Had the opportunity to see this one. Good win for East after being down 8 in the second half. Looks like West is improving, now they need to learn how to finish. This was without a doubt the worst officiated high school game that I have ever seen. There were 8-10 calls that were no brainers on things like balls out of bounds, walks, and fouls. Didnt determine the outcome and there was no bias, bad both ways. If you were there, what do you think?
  22. Speaking of competitive advantage, someone should let the air out of these balls.
