The best way for Walters to improve his resume would be to apply and get a head coaching job elsewhere and prove what he can do wouldn't you think? If he has success then he becomes a strong candidate the next time the position is open.

I don't have a dog in the fight. I hope everything you say turns out to be spot on. I am sure the administration made what they believe was the best choice. Time will answer and performance will any questions. I am sure Coach LeMaster will get the full support of the those that truly want the program to have success.

If his main interest is his grandchildren and not the program then this is the wrong hire. I would have hoped that someone on the interview committee would have recognized this if it is truly the case. We will see how things play out. I for one was against the Rich Brooks hire at UK and I ate that crow. Hope my fears turn out to be crow for the schools sake.

Very good players for four years. Two D1 arms for a couple. As a good devils advocate, maybe a different bus driver could have been 4 for 4 with a couple State Finals appearances or maybe even a ring. Its like the guy on his deathbed that says I have smoked everyday of my life and lived to be 90. When in reality if he hadn't smoked everyday he probably would have lived longer.

You bring up a good point. The baseball coach won the region with two D1 arms and he was let go. The football team won 6 games last year with three D1 players. This comparison may be apples and oranges, but the fact is Ashland was mediocre on offense and defense and could have been dynamic. Offensively, I am curious which is greater the number of three and outs or the number of 10+ play drives? The last two years Ashland scores only when Baker breaks a long one. The inability to drive the football, use clock, and keep the other team's O off the field hurts them. I would like to see them figure out how to move the chains consistently. Defensively, I often wondered last year why you take your best pursuit guy and play him in a scheme where his primary responsibilities are to take on blockers. But hey what do I know? I hope the kids stay healthy and play hard.

Line play has been the scapegoat. Not so sure that the lineman trying to block 8 guys with 5 is always the line's fault. Unless Ashland can throw a little and be a little more dynamic in schemes the district will remain in JC. I don't think they have to stretch the field vertically per say, but I do think they need to utilize their team speed and stretch the field horizontally. Time will tell.

If that is the case and you are an Ashland fan, you should lend your full support to the new coach. If you choose to not support the new coach then your loyalties are otherwise. Any word on when they will announce?

John Calipari couldn't recruit baseball players to Pikeville. I am sure the administration did what they thought was the best. Time will tell. For instance I thought Rich Brooks was a terrible hire for a football coach by Mitch Barnhardt at UK. Guess what, I was dead wrong. Would take him back today. Boyd passed because they have no opening? Maybe the incident that Walter had with a Boyd coach a few years ago was the determining factor.

Based on this post he must know the other candidates and their resume. Wish I did.

I wasn't at those games if you are referring to the Greenup Tourney I had a friend whose son played and he felt they played better. I also know the Reds are undefeated against the Nationals this year and the Reds are not good. Baseball is a funny game only game where you have the ball on defense. Was their improved play directly related to Walter? I don't know. Could it have been? Sure it could have. I would have had to have been there to come to my own conclusion. Not a great answer but an honest one.

Ashland should hire the best baseball guy that applies period. If that happens to be Walter so be it. I have no agenda. I have no kids that play. My only interest is in the long term success of the school. My speculation is the administration created this opening with a plan and the plan failed. The opportunity to improve still exists I don't believe any industry should give someone a job because they have been there the longest. That is a recipe for disaster. Like I said the best candidate should get the job period.

I do know of one 16th assistant that applied. He would be a good fit. I will leave him nameless in case he isn't hired. Wouldn't want to cause him problems where he is at.

I feel like there is a guy available that would fit. I wonder if they contacted former Prestonsburg coach Simpkins or if he contacted them.

I agree. Lot of rust with skills. If Howell can sell them on being lock down D guys it will go a long way.

No Baker and OBryan are attending a football camp.

I watched the summer games yesterday and it was uglier than grade school basketball. If the athletes play they will need some time to knock off a lot of rust. Howell will have to do a good job of getting kids to accept their roles. These kids will not be dependable scorers but can defend with anybody.

I would say you get two of those three when its all said and done.
