  1. I think there are way too many "peaked in high school Rob Lowe's" on here
  2. I agree with the Logan accolades. His players get better and he is a competitor.
  3. How many players on those teams ended up being collegiate athletes? He was blessed with a group of kids who put in the time early. These kids came through the little league at a time when things were better. He won three regional titles in his 20 + years at Ashland, Logan as won 4 out of 9 at Greenup and Feltner has won 3 out of 7 at Lawrence. I am not saying he is a bad coach. He chose to coach a baseball team every year rather than run a program. Again the expectations for him should have been communicated. If they were not the administration has a black eye.
  4. If you call the team that played at the fairgrounds Elite then I must hold a different definition. They do have three kids on Greenup's team that didn't grow up there which help tremendously. None of our philosophical difference on this point matter. Greenup works to develop players and this was a weakness at Ashland.
  5. Question, if youth baseball is changing, should the high school coach not be in tune with it? Did you know that the kids for Greenup that will be playing in the quarterfinals today in Lexington were as bad as you think the Ashland LL system is? When we played their teams we could call the score. Now those kids have improved in the high school program. Player development and youth league awareness are the areas that Wilcox didn't get done in my opinion. However, if the administration wanted a different landscape for baseball and didn't lay our their expectations to him and give him the opportunity to meet those expectations they were wrong. He should have been given the opportunity to create the landscape they wanted.
  6. Bet he saw more in the last 10 years than the high school coach or assistant coach.
  7. He took Prestonsburg from mediocre to contender quickly. I have heard a lot of good things about him and I think he is looking for a job.
  8. What about Shane Simpkins?
  9. It will be interesting to see what happens. My guess is Tim Rice will be the first phone call, like I said my guess is he will decline. Walter will apply, but is that a different direction? Would the timing have anything to do with Davis resigning at Rowan?
  10. They had their chance with Rice not sure that bridge isn't torched
  11. Basketball and Football teams don't get extra time outs if their team is young. I am not a hater of his dedication to the program. Like I said Greenup players get better in four years there. He is willing to scout other region foes. I didn't see a single 16th region coach the other night scouting the region favorite. Just no need for the antics.
  12. In the last two Russell games how many times has he been on the field? All that isn't necessary. He does a good job with kids. They play hard and in his program they improve. Hats off to him for that, you don't see that in some places who claim to have a program. Too many times I have walked away from a game and thought he needs to realize there is no entertainment value to his antics, people are there to watch the kids.
  13. Congratulations to Greenup on the win. Could do without the Logan circus however. They were on the field at least 10 times in that game.
  14. It only makes sense if you live in the east and you want freedom to go to West Liberty. Duh.
  15. Fairview will compete.
  16. I don't think all four will, but I think at least two will.
  17. If Baker Brown OBryan and Pruitt play Ashland will be better.
  18. I saw Salow from Ashland throw a perfect game a couple of years ago and to he was anything less than impressive that day would be lie.
  19. Everyone assumes they "had" to, maybe they "wanted to." I don't have any inside information as to the thought process just offering a possibility.
  20. Or does it prove they recognized the abilities of one of their own? Ashland lost two promising young coaches in Tim Rice, baseball and Jason Strader, basketball. Maybe the decided to not let a third get away.
  21. Time will tell if he has a positive impact on the Blazer basketball scene. Not real fair to him to criticize before he ever conducts a practice. It is ironic that Russell hired a head coach with no high school experience head coaching experience and most looked at it as a good hire. I would think at this point Mr. Howell is on the same rung as Mr. Strader. I say good luck Mr. Howell, work hard and you will have the chance to cook the crow.
  22. I think Howell will relate to the kids very well. Having played at Ashland, he should be motivated to proving himself there. He has no high school head coaching experience to my knowledge which is a drawback. Although he may not be the slam dunk hire on paper, he definitely is intriguing. He sorta strikes me as a guy that just might possess some intangibles with the way he carries himself on the sideline.
