  1. Now I have taken my shots at Brossart about some of what I have seen but........Ky. Joe the academics at Brossart are ahead of the academics at NCC. Now the St. Mary and St. Joe's issue is something that is heard about from Brossart folk............But if you read one of my previous posts if Brossart ever kept "the kids at home" so to speak NCC would have real enrollment issues. Lets face it NCC is land locked and really does not have a population to draw from in Newport, Bellevue, Dayton..............Keep in mind that as of the early 1980's you had 4 Catholic feeder schools in Newport, 2 in Bellevue and 1 in Dayton.............Plus the two in Fort Thomas and the one in Southgate........the 7 from Newport, Bellevue and Dayton are all now one school and it is the smallest of the feeder schools. They had three boys in the graduating class at that school this past year. St. Therese has become the largest feeder with the two Ft. Thomas schools always sending a good amount of kids to Highlands. If the dicoese is committed to the two schools in Campbell County they must allow NCC to draw from what used to be considered Brossart "feeder" schools......which they always have. Quite frankly even in the early 90's NCC was drawing kids from the outlying schools like St. Peter and Paul. The basketball coach at the time at Brossart whoever was before Coach Schlarman kind of put a stop to that and reeled in some of "the big fish" from the feeder schools that before then would have gone to NCC. Kids like Nathan Seiter, Curtis Bezold, Ryan Horan, the Sendelbach kid............all started a trend.........and having played against those guys if any of them would have gone to NCC and hooked up with the Aaron Mann's and that group they would have won even more games on the hill. But what I have observed is Brossart has had a complex when it comes to NCC. They starting getting rid of that as they had success in all sports aginst them. Football is throwing them right back into that complex of being "the little brother." Their program went through too many head coaches early on..............screwed up in the hiring previously and then went to a veteran coach with a lot of wins and that was botched..........So this program is really needing stability. My observations I put in post 41 about the Brossart athletic programs.
  2. Well we disagree then on significant wins. Beating large schools to me is significant.
  3. Ok I will bite........how many times has Beechwood played Mayfield?
  4. That is correct the KHSAA eligibilty rules apply only to high school students. You can play several years of varsity and transfer before your freshmen year and it is technically not even a transfer in the eyes of the KHSAA. Public schools (particularly those in Lousville as it pertains to two large private schools) tried to get this changed a few years back basically saying once you hit 6th grade in a feeder school that was your school of eligibilty, but that did not pass. ***Note: This is not a public vs private issue for me and I am not making any comment about that, just stating what happened with this rule.
  5. Well......the only reason Beechwood is in this position is because they are so successful they are supposed to win every game they play except for maybe the Mayfield game (the past two seasons) and maybe the NCC game. Other than CovCath or Highlands most people expect Beechwood to beat EVERYBODY else they play regardless of class or size of school. So........not sure what the point you are trying to get at with your thread, but I guess the only way Beechwood can start winning games they are not supposed to is to lose more games and then upset some teams.
  6. Now to get back to the thread topic of the game: How many players does Brossart dress on Friday nights? Is there any offensive weapon that they have that could have a good showing?
  7. StickerMann: First "tooting your own horn" would be statements being made.....not performance on the field. Secondly, as a Brossart opponent for many years I have witnessed and can verify many beatdowns and embarrassing scores by one of your former boys coaches and one of your former girls coaches, the arrogance of two of your more recent boy and girl coaches, the superiority complex of your AD and your coaches when it involves the All A tournaments ever since they were moved into the 10th region, the inflexibility when it comes to where and how you host tournaments, the yearly inflated and laughable stats turned into the newspaper in at least one of your sports, etc. These are the examples I have personally witnessed as your opponent.
  8. Ok that makes sense................And like I said I really have never witnessed an NCC team in any sport run the score up.........
  9. I do not want to hijack a thread so if somebody can link me to the rules I will quit asking dumb questions!!!!!
  10. Will not help HC get over that hump..................Just would give them one more team to have a complex about!
  11. What exactly is the new rule regarding workouts? Does it also apply to baseball?
  12. Mexitucky first off I hope NCC uses class as they normally do when this situation arises. Second the arrogance of Brossart? Yes I have seen that over the years in a variety of athletic venues. Never used to be that way but since about the 2000's I have had a tough time with the attitude of a variety of ADULTS in the program as well as supporters of the program. But unless the adults step out there and take some hits  I hope they do not run the score up for the players sake............ Third you are dead on with your comments about restocking the pond. Between these two schools they are vying for the same students/athletes..........NCC was always the choice for the athlete until about 1992-1993 when Brossart's boys basketball coach started "keeping home" some of those better athletes....... One thing I will say in my observations of NCC teams over the years in all sports is they never embarrass opponents. Brossart.............well..............I have seen some outlandish basketball scores as a fan of an opposing team as well as seen a lot of "tooting their own horn" in football. But they are very proud of what they have accomplished and do not have the long standing tradition that NCC has in baseball, football, and basketball. What I think is the scary part for NCC is IF Brossart gains any momentum in football at all and begins to convince players in the Cold Spring, Alexandria, California areas to play for the closer school.....well NCC would have issues not just with football but enrollment in general as they cannot sustain themselves with drawing from Newport, Bellevue, Dayton, etc and Fort Thomas is always an iffy area for them due to Highlands academic and athletic success......... My point being I agree NCC needs to keep the thumb on Brossart in football but I highly doubt they will run the score up really bad unless it is unavoidable (like a Highlands vs Mason County this past weekend). :thumb:
  13. What is Junior's name? Sorry curious as to who there pitching coach is/was?
  14. UH......2003? By my count that is a long time ago and has no bearing on anything this season. Nobody said anything about cream puffs but I guarantee you there a plenty of teams that can prepare you for the playoffs without scheduling arguably the second best team in the entire state when you strip away the classes. Kudos to Mason County for playing hard the whole game!
  15. Troy will do just fine. My suspicions are that they were indeed trying to make a clean break and go outside for a fresh start.
  16. The twice a year contest was really cool. Unfortunately when Dayton hired a new football coach in the early 2000's he felt his team did not benefit from playing twice thus it ended. But this rivalry from a standpoint of being intense it definitely is, and means everything in those two communities. For impact on state championships and playoff implications CovCath/Highlands is the rivalry.
  17. Twenty years ago Brossart could not compete with NCC in an sport. Now they have several wins notched in all sports...............Now they cannot compete in football at all............NOt now at least. But at least what used to be an intimidation factor whenever the two schools played........That is now gone. But count on a 40 point win for NCC
  18. Yes and then you better apply it to the Mustangs when they get HC, NCC and Newport.................
  19. Excellent win for the Rocks. One thing is for certain the non district schedule does not leave Trinity thinking they can bring anything but there A game week in and week out.
  20. I agree.......but I think the onus is on the Mason County AD and head coach for scheduling this game.............Why play Highlands if you are Mason County?
