Tom Baynum Named Head Fast Pitch Coach Of The Lady 'Stangs

 

(Special) For Immediate Release....Bishop Brossart High School has named Tom Baynum as their new Head Fast Pitch Softball Coach. He replaces Athletic Director and current coach Mel Webster who has held the Head Coaching Position the last 20 years. Baynum has been the school's Associate Head Coach and Junior Varsity Head Coach the last 8 seasons.

 

Baynum posted a 133-41 record as the junior varsity coach and top varsity assistant. His JV teams were 23-4 in 2003, 20-2 in 2005, and 17-0 in 2007.

 

“Tom Baynum has all the qualities you would ever want in a Head Coach. He is a great communicator, has a great knowledge of the game of fast pitch, is well respected and liked by everyone. It is the easiest no doubt hire we have ever made,” says Webster.

 

“I wish Tom the greatest of success,” exclaimed Webster. Bishop Brossart High School and our softball program is very special. It is his time to take this program to an even higher level. He bleeds green like me. Nobody I have ever coached with is more ready for this position. I wanted to see this program have lasting continuity and success. It also frees me up a bit to do more of my Athletic Director duties here at school.”

 

Webster, who has coached the Lady 'Stangs the last 20 seasons, compiled a 531-185 record during that time including a KHSAA State Championship in 1998, 4 Regional Titles, 14 District Championships, 16 NKAC Championships, 20 consecutive Regional Tournament Appearances, and compiled a 96-12 JV record. Counting his summer traveling teams he is 2,492-702 in total games won and lost.

 

Baynum thru the years has enjoyed tremendous success coaching his Lady Bolts' Fast Pitch team in the summer to a great deal of success and numerous State Championships. He is also a very successful Grade School Basketball Coach at St. Mary's In Alexandria where he has won two 7th Grade Diocesan Championship including last year when his team was 31-9. They hope to defend that title this year in the 8th Grade and become the first St. Mary team to accomplish that.

 

“Tom will have a very good team here for years to come,” added Webster who will stay on as a varsity assistant. “It will be the first time in 41 years as an assistant I am looking forward to it actually. I only hope I can help Tom as much as he has been there for me the last eight years. He is a first class coach and person. I will do anything he asks of me that will help our players achieve our goals.”

 

The Lady 'Stangs were 25-6 last year and return 7 starters, 19 varsity and jv players and several new freshmen from last year's District Championship Team that reached the semifinals of the 10th Region Tournament.

 

“Larry Livingston, who passed away this spring had a number of sayings he always passed along to all of us,” smiled Webster. One of his favorites was something he would say every day at practice or every game for 15 years. “What a wonderful day it is here at Bishop Brossart.” Yes it is.

Congratulations to Tom Baynum! He does a great job coaching not only softball, but basketball as he guided the St. Mary Saints 7th grade girls to a Diocesean championship last season. I wish him and the Lady Stangs much luck this season.

Before the "Big Horse" Reilly was the "Big Horse" Deidesheimer. Before the "Bg Horse" Deidesheimer was the "Big Horse" Vogelpohl. Brossart just reloads. Who will it be this year? Only time will tell.

As for Lawnboy, well the team he follows may struggle next season. They lose some key players in the pitcher, catcher and shortstop. I am not sure how they will replace those positions, I haven't seen much there in the younger grades but you never know.

 

Both teams will be young, but it sounds like "Big Green" has already got the stable full of "new talent" and ready to "Run for the Roses".

It will be a while before "that" pitcher can be replaced, however don't miss a beat in replacing 2nd, ss, 3rd, & c. All will be freshmen this year, only problem is they all play basketball so they might miss 1st month of practice since one might play varsity and the others jv.

I wouldnt count the L's up yet Brossart's young bringing back 6 starters with only 1 senior & 2 Juniors this year and if this pitching thing works out the new coach might have them towards the top in N KY . They'll be a fun team to watch. IMO

I agree, Brossart had a really nice freshman class last year along with a few other upper classman they will have back this year. Any word on the Franke girl? Will she be coming back to pitch this year or do they have some other young pitcher(s) they are working with?

I agree, Brossart had a really nice freshman class last year along with a few other upper classman they will have back this year. Any word on the Franke girl? Will she be coming back to pitch this year or do they have some other young pitcher(s) they are working with?

Not sure about Franke but I believe they had a freshman pitcher come in & 3 or 4 7th & 8th graders pitching. Sounds like they'll be OK .

Yes, I think I read in another thread that the freshman girl coming in wore purple last year. If so that is a good start but she will not be anything near what they had last year. Do they have a catcher to replace the other senior they had last year?
