Just an FYI: The NKAC most of the time for the Players of the Year will take the winner in the NKAC Tournament (at least when there are individual champs crowned). Hence that's why no Highlands girl was Player of the Year, because Hansen won that meet.

Just as an FYI: The honor is for seniors only. Each of the 20 schools in the NKFCA has a representative. I can't remember how some have two reps. It is usually a mix of performance/academics/community service....

Just an FYI: We started our weekly high school basketball notebook in the Enquirer and I pick them. I ask coaches to nominate (most don't). It's not scientific. I pick two boys and two girls.

Clyde (and others) it is beyond frustrating why it's not on the website. It's happened too many times on Saturdays that's it inexcusable.... BTW: Conner wa 6 of 19 from the FT line, including 3 of 13 in the second half.... and Hemmerich was 5 of 19 from the field... Stanley and big kid from Boone (McDonald) were impressive....

My wife and her roomate both had crushes on him and seemed to come around our apartment a lot....

What are you talking about? I did a big feature on Josh Cain leading up to the state final, did a feature lead to a notebook on Randy Borchers and Eviston being high school teammates and Borchers driving him to school everday and both playing for Coach Schneider, I wrote 25 inches on the championship game and write consistently about NewCath. I rarely take exception with stuff on here, because opinions are opinions, but either you aren't paying attention or you are jaded. I

Actually asked Commissioner Tackett that very question about an hour ago and he said it will go to Dale as he is still the coached employed at the time of the game.

To the best of my knowledge AP hired a new person in Kentucky only recently and not sure they were up to speed on it or not. We reached out to AP numerous times to ask if and when we needed to nominate players and vote and were told, "in a few weeks we will hoepfully have information for you," and here we are three days before finals and nothing. It was a bit of a mess last year. They allow you to nominate 12 players from your area and not every area of the state took part, hence some worthy players weren't nominated and thus left off the list and didn't get voted for (I think Ryan Timmons was one of them).

Actually our Fall All-Stars will run for all sports Jan. 14 (don't ask, I don't even know). Also, the Associated Press I don't believe is having an All-State team this year either. As for NKY POY: Tough, tough call. Lot of players who had (or are still having) great seasons.

Dixie had 20 penalties, including 14 false start, offside or illegal motion. Not the case. We don't have a lot of sophomores playing, but a good chunk in the senior and junior classes and a a handful of freshmen. I know we may even have a freshman team, but not sure...

Johnson Q: Just an FYI: Villa's numbers are about what they have been for the last 5-7 years (180 kids in the high school, although we have 51 in the senior class). We have a no-cut policy for all sports so if a kid wants to be a part of a team they are a part. Doesn't guarantee playing time, but does guarantee being a part of a team.

Villa just hired Dave Meier, who was most recently softball coach at Notre Dame, and was baseball coach at Villa prior to that, leading the school to a district title and the regional tournament.

He is a talent no doubt. Coach Liggin told me earlier in the week that Peterson has a 3.2 GPA going for the first quarter so hopefully that's a good sign. I'll probably write something about him this week. He's a made a nice comeback.

Randy, If I remember the picture of Hornsby in the Ledger it was him in mid-air with the ball just out of his hand and scoreboard in the background (maybe). It was without a doubt a great game. Also, Corey Williams still remains one of the best high school players I have ever seen.

VOR, Game story from last night is online at NKY.com. I wouldn't say there were production errors, just errors and as for it not making print, it's beyond ridiculous why it wasn't in there. We had two stories on Art Modell dying and 20 inches of US Open tennis, two things I can get from any national site. The errors on the top 10 are beyond ridiculous, but sadly they have cut copy editors to the bare bone and there is no one with any knowledge of Kentucky working in the sports department on a regular basis to oversee things, so hence stuff gets missed. It's an utter and absolute embarrassment is what it is.

Today was another example of how frustrating this all is. We had a plan in place to run a nice full notebook on Tuesdays during the year with the the title Tuesday Morning Quartrback (I love Peter King's Monday Morning Quaterback NFL stuff even if he even goes a bid overboard on content). It was supposed to be a 6 inch lead item (last week I did something on Jeff Marksberry coaching the girls' soccer team to a win and then the football team to a win in the sam week) and this week did something on Holy Cross having experience in bouncing back from a big loss (last season it lost to Beechwood 69-26 to win the state title). Other elements are supposed to be a weekly "power" ranking of top five teams, Players of the Week, and about 5-7 noteworthy items. Well, due to lack of space in print (or honestly poor usuage of space in print) the lead item was cut to four graphs and none of the noteworthy stuff ran (it did run full online). Then someone who edited it misspelled Kevin Silbersack's name on a subhead (had Silversack). Northern Kentucky does deserve better, but I am getting tired of beating my head against the wall quite frankly. Never mind the face that online on NKY.com on Saturday we had a link to "St Henry beats Mariemont." Well, St. Henry did beat Mariemont - St. Henry, OHIO. Of course St. Henry doesn't have football team. My initial fear was a prank a co-worker at The Post pulled on the Enquirer years ago in which he had Holy Cross (when it didn't have football) beating Brossart (when it didn't have football) and it ran in the paper. Trust me when I tell you high school editor Mike Dyer shares the same frustration I do. Honestly anyone with any pride does. Sigh.

Impartial, That answer doesn't surprise me, but it's disappointing to hear. The only thing I can say is keep badgering them as much as possible. There are a lot of readers in Northern Kentucky, and sometimes I'm not sure the powers that be understand that. I still think Scripps should have kept The Post open in Kentucky. It was fairly successful even at the end. Sadly they could and should do so much more online, too, but bean counters aren't ready to make a bigger commitment that just having someone take scores over the phone and an occassional gamer.
