2019 Mr. Basketball Finalists
Big Fundamental replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
With Johnson, Moreno, and Allen all spending time with injuries this year. Should be between Tandy & Rode. Both would be very legit winners who have done it since early in their careers. I believe Allen is the best of the players, and has been since his middle school years, but his lengthy injury hurts his senior year candidacy. -

Campbell County 59 Cooper 53

Excellent week for the Camels beating SK and then Cooper. That’s a great sign heading into the districts and likely regionals. Once again, Russell, a very underrated coach, has the Camels rolling this year. Would love to see their tough/disciplined/gritty style play down state. -
St. Henry 91 Newport 86
Big Fundamental replied to Randy Parker's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Ok, yes, Harding out makes a huge difference for Newport. Double-double guy and force inside. Seemingly incredible night for the 2 Newport guys. And, unreal night for St. Henry with 3 guys in the 20s or 30. Vieth is a beast, and I really like Westerbecks game. Very gritty player. Bessler adding 20 puts St. H over the top. Young man coming into his own. Look out for St. Henry. Faust has those boys playing hard and getting better. -
St. Henry 91 Newport 86

Heard Newport & St. Henry were missing guys? Any important or key players? -
Good win for Conner! Especially after being down in the 4th by 6 or 7. I saw Ohmer was out in the update thread... anyone know why?

The matchups for the region will be so interesting. Potentially: Conner as a 2, Highlands/NCC/Newport as a 2, Beechwood/CCH as a 2, and St. Henry/ Lloyd as a 2, is going to create for some wild first round matchups and a great regional tournament. (I know theoretically other teams could make it, ie. Holy Cross, Dixie, etc.)

Newport lost to CCH by 17, without McGuire, who averages around 16. And, Newport was playing its 5th game in 7 days. Tough task to ask them to beat CovCath at that point. That said, Beechwood beat CCH on a buzzer beater at home. Newport beat Beechwood on the road, in the “high stakes” All A. To me, top 4 should have stayed the same, with Beechwood 4th and Cooper and CCH 1 & 2. Cooper and CCH still clearly the class of the region, and Beechwood and Newport definitely 3/4 in whatever order at this point. Conner a Sneaky 5. Conner does not “look like” much, but those boys play hard. Kudos to Otte for that! They should be a force next year as well.

Cooper 79 Newport 70
Big Fundamental replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
Cooper took a commanding 3rd quarter lead. Their guys were all playing on a mission. Not sure what happens hypothetically. But, I didn’t think the officials had anything to do with the game. Just my opinion. Cooper got a lead because they played hard and together. Newport battled back because they played hard and together. -
Cooper 79 Newport 70
Big Fundamental replied to Colonels_Wear_Blue's topic in KY Boys Basketball (High School)
And they blew whistles 6 times on Newport in the first, and 9 in the 2nd. 15 to 10, in favor of Cooper for the game. You stated Cooper was up 21 until the officials totally turned how they called the game. I was just stating that the whistle definitely went Coopers way more than Newport’s last night. And, I’ll also state that I don’t think the whistles determined the outcome in any way shape or form. Cooper won and was better last night. -

I’m aware. But, Ryle did what most would have expected them to do before the season started. -

Hasn’t this happened once already? The kid being benched.... I’m not sure the coach is reaching his “star”. -

Tough kid with excellent ability. I know SK beat Walton a couple weeks ago, and beat Grant County, but with this loss, it makes me curious if SK can in fact get out of this region. Still regular season, I know... -

Gallatin always a tough out. I expected SK to win, but I’m not surprised GC pulled this one out. Niece impressive in the scoring column, as usual. -

Dixie is trending up, I agree. An upset candidate for any opponent.
