  1. This feels like a game CCH just always wins. But, Newport has the parts & pieces to get it done. Though, will certainly be tougher without McGuire. Looking for a nice matchup between Disken/Miller and Thelen/Harding.
  2. Didn’t mean for it to be that way. Highlands is good and playing very well! Just many people seem to be talking about those other 4. Highlands is easily right there in the mix. Good call.
  3. Is GRC the team we thought they were? They started the year ranked pretty highly in the state and now have 2 losses to teams I think most people thought they would win (Newport & F. Douglass). I know it’s a long season, and Coach Cook is still working on his team, but I expected more from GRC than to have 4 losses being just 14 games in. Thoughts?
  4. Here’s what I know... Cooper, CovCath, Newport & Beechwood all have some impressive wins this season. I love this time of year to watch them all compete in reg. season, but would be more fun to see all 4 in late February. They all have some really nice pieces, and all have areas to grow and improve.
  5. Agree! That’s why I love this time of the basketball season. When the head to head matchups start to really separate the pack.
  6. Any unbiased fans? Lol. Hard to hear from one side listed as “Hoptown”. No offense. jk. I do appreciate the info. I’m well aware of how good Tandy is. Saw him play as a junior. Unreal. But, I also know that refs get “star struck” as well. And, it isn’t just fouls on a star, it’s not calling anything against them. Guess no real way for me to judge, and even if so, not blaming the kid! Good for him for being so good that people can’t stay in front.
  7. I read in the prediction thread about some “bull crap” techs and Tandy being favored. Don’t know about the techs, but that always seems to happen in these kind of games (tournament finals, classics, etc.), where a “celebrity” player gets the “star” treatment. Not right. Don’t even know if true in this one, but I have seen it plenty before. Doesn’t seem that would make much difference in this 20+ point loss, but it can certainly change a game, especially early on.
  8. If both teams are really good, isn’t it typical to take the team with the best player? Hoping this is a showdown, and Newport can win it for No. KY.
  9. LexCath on their home floor in their holiday tournament will be tough. They also play a slower interesting style. Be interesting to see if Newport can assert their pace and style of play. Being the only No. KY team left in the winners bracket, I’d love to see them get it done, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
  10. Woww. That is production! And, to do it against a really quality team like Simon Kenton. Good for Newport and those boys.
  11. Was this game ever close? What did Niece do? I keep hearing about Miller and Harding... anything on McGuire?
  12. Simon Kenton can score in bunches!! Not sure Newport can score like that, or can they? Simon Kenton has been awfully tough for teams to guard...
  13. Good to know. I know you were doing the update thread, as I paid attention to it from time to time. Thank you. Never really saw Wellman's name come up much. Just wondered why it was stated that he played decent, when it didn't appear that he did, in regards to scoring (I'm aware there is much else to be done). He's their leading scorer, and didn't score much at all.
  14. Campbell is better than GRC, and they've beaten them this season. CC is the class of the 10th region and they'll prove it again. Not equal footing, in my humble opinion. Added to that, the Newport vs. CC game was at CC, would it have been a different outcome if it was at Newport, ala Beechwood?
  15. According to the update thread, Wellman didn't do much. Sounds like Newport did what they needed to do defensively in holding GRC in check. Doesn't seem like there is anything wrong with GRC in regards to scoring as they average 68/gm according to KHSAA, they just weren't able to do it tonight. Their defense is also really nice, but couldn't get stops when they needed to tonight.
  16. Prayers for a speedy recovery for the young man!
  17. If you have 500 wins, but have been coaching for 40 years, that’s 12.5 wins per year.... is that a great coach? Agree with the post above. Some hang on too long. Being a great coach is situational, and numbers don’t always tell the tale.
  18. I thinks it’s fine in the middle of the 3rd. That said, I keep reading, “if the opposing team is still competing”... what? They better still be competing. Otherwise the coaches message has gone sour, and the players have no passion/pride. Someone mentioned it, at 25 and in the 3rd, the team/coach should still believe they can win!
  19. My main point was quality of wins. Saying they had more wins, and less losses only solidified the point. St. Henry has no “quality wins” as if week 4. Which, btw, nothing against St. Henry, as I believe by the end of the year, they’ll be a really solid team.
  20. This is exactly what I’m saying. HC has two very quality wins. St Henry didn’t have 1, AND they have less wins and more losses. That was my main point... quality wins, as of week 4.
  21. You make some good points. That said, if you lose by 5 points every quarter, and lose by 20, my answer is YES, that is a blowout. Let’s not focus on the losses as much as the wins.... St. Henry has beat Ludlow, Bellevue, and Ryle. They have those 3 wins. Holy Cross has 4 wins, 1 more than St. Henry, and have beaten Scott and South Oldham, along with St. Patrick and Boone County. I don’t know who would win between HC and St. Henry, but for a week 4 rankings, I’d rank them based on actual wins/losses and not potential or perceived talent. Holy Cross has more wins, better wins, and less losses. But, then again, who am I. Just a BGP poster like anyone else. Just my opinion. I know you have a tough job and it’s only opinion.
