  1. Funny to be arguing heights/weights of 16-18 year olds. Think the college coaches do that?
  2. Agree on Cooper as the clear favorite. At this point, it isn’t close, as they blasted the number 2. Beechwood got a great win, albeit, at home against an out of region opponent (always a tough situation), and that game had its fair share of BGP controversy (fouls, officiating, etc.). Goetz has Draud and the boys humming at this point and they’ll be really tough to beat at home. Probably looking at the All-A champs, too. Seems to be some remaining CovCath bias at the top, as usual (maybe). They’ve lost 3 games, and lost to Highlands at Highlands, where Newport defeated Highlands at Highlands, and only has 1 loss, on the road to the #1 team in the 10th. Seems like Newport was discarded because of a “near-loss” on the road in a “trap” game after Highlands and going into winter break. Good thing here is, they’ll play this year, so should get more clarity on that. Maybe CovCath is better, as I know they are improving a younger team. I also agree with the Holy Cross posters, as they are vastly improved. I believe they are better than Dixie, NewCath, and St. Henry (who is 3-8 with no really good wins, and a few blowouts...). Wahl is emerging as a really nice player and Knochelmann is doing Knochelmann things. They play well as a team. Lastly, I’ll say... look out for Lloyd. They are improving quickly, and have a super talent in Cody. If he can find some legit running mates, they could be dangerous for anyone outside of Cooper.
  3. Obviously. The game of basketball includes strategy and planning. Any knowledgeable basketball people know the strategy employed by SL to knock off a really good SK team at home?
  4. Congrats to the young man! Have Enjoyed following him over the years.
  5. Woww. I know SL is pretty good, but didn’t expect SK to lose at home in their own tournament. Any word on how SL did it?
  6. My point was.... success looks different to every team and every player. Some players don’t need the accountability, responsibility, character building, love, etc., as they get it from home from good parents and families. That kid needs skill development, and the teaching of basketball intelligence. Kid # 2, may have all the skill in the world, but has no man/woman at home to teach them what character, manners, and accountability look like, so they need a coach to show them the way of life, so they can use their skill to be successful. Kid number 3 may need a mixture. A coach should always be a role model, be approachable, have an open door for current and former players, and want to see his players become great people and be successful in life. But, in my opinion, and most importantly, a great coach understands the game, game decision making, skill development, and how to handle each individual player and what they need. It’s quite the task to be a great coach. Ps. In all of these regards, I think most former and current players/families would tell you that Faust is a great coach.
  7. Faust probably does a great job developing the talent he gets. But, his “greatness” can’t be compared to Ruthsatz, Sullivan, Russell, Hicks, or Szabo because Faust has never had that talent level at St. Henry. Hard for head coaching greatness to be solely measured in wins and losses
  8. Coach- : a person who teaches and trains an athlete or performer. : a person who teaches and trains the members of a sports team and makes decisions about how the team plays during games. This is the Merriam-Webster dictionary definition, according to Google. So, technically, a “great coach”, would be one that develops players to become the best they can individually be in a sport or performance, and one who makes decisions to help a team/athlete be successful.
  9. Beechwood is really good!! The Tigers always play hard & tonight they beat a top team in the state. Maybe now The Wood will get some respect, which fell off after bad Cooper loss, but in road.
  10. St. Henry has some really nice young talent with Veith & Bessler. Don’t they have some nice Freshman too, and some length on the JV team? Could be nice the next couple years.
  11. When will Ohmer be back? What happened to him? That’s an awfully big missing piece for Scott.
  12. SK will likely win their own tournament. Smart move heading down to LexCath next week... should see some more challenges there.
  13. Can Walton keep pace with 80/gm? The Bearcats are going to have to find a way to slow them down. The length helps. What did Niece have in this one?
  14. Newport seems to be getting an opportunity to learn some early lessons that should prepare them for late in the season and tournament time. Good for Ginn, Scott, Hicks, and Marcum.
  15. Good for Ryle! Good to get away from home and get a win. Congrats to Rankin & Benton on monster games! How was Ryle guard play?
  16. Conner seems to have a lot of young talent. Could be very nice the next couple of years.
  17. I love his poise! Also, he’s is willing to pass and shares the ball with his teammates. I never see any separation in this team. Their coach does an excellent job as well.
  18. Didn’t expect it to be this close, but Conner has a nice team out in Hebron. They play hard and very business-like.
  19. Simple for me... no access. I was just expanding on a previous statement about Mayer playing. If he’s on the bench, I assume he will. But, many people seem to have differing opinions.
