  1. Of course not. When teams are of relatively equal talent/potential, coaching matters. The better the players over time, the better the coach over time.
  2. Cody is their best player, imo. He could have really helped Dixie this year. After him they have some decent pieces. Lloyd, Dixie, and St. Henry will all be battling for this district championship.
  3. Moeller. They'll remember that close loss last year at CCH. CovCath will have to hit shots, and really grind Moeller down on the offensive end to have a change. In the end, Moeller by double digits.
  4. I definitely agree with you here. If you're going to say it, provide some proof or evidence. Often times, people who are jaded with the coach say things like that. That may or may not be true in this case, I'm unsure. But, that is often the context of which I hear it. That said, I do believe you can be "out-coached."
  5. Balanced attack and scoring by the Blue Colonels. That's what they'll need going forward to be successful.
  6. At the HS level, wouldn't it simply mean that one coach had a better game plan, and made the right moves to put his team in position to win? Could also be in the training, teaching, and scouting department. I know that great players make great coaches, but I also believe that coaches have a huge impact on the game at the HS level, and there are certainly better coaches than others. Just like players. Certainly doesn't play a role in every win/loss, but i believe it matters.
  7. CCH by double digits. They have to get it rolling at some point (as i think most of us expect), why not tonight on the road.... That said, will be great to see this younger NCC team and how they handle the intensity of CCH.
  8. Was it not a foul? Looked like he had 2 guys all over him on the video above, but not being there, its hard to tell.
  9. Woww. Excellent recap and sounds like an excellent game between two tough teams.
  10. Was told Miller & Harding played very well for Newport, along with some role guys. And, heard Sissons was a beast! 2 or 3 big dunks and 20+ points. Hearsay, but believable. How was the atmosphere? The Birds pack them in?
  11. Which Levitch is this? The father that used to coach The Ville, or one of the sons?
  12. Familiar with the name, and have heard he is high level... How good is he? What kind of difference does he make?
  13. Listerman and staff do a nice job. I believe the kids have always played hard. Never quit. But, haven't had the same type of talent that they have now. Highlands has shown they can beat anyone (CCH #3 in state) & compete at a high level (Oldham on the road).
  14. The determining factor will ultimately be either quickness/athleticism/transition vs. strength/physicality/slower pace. Being that Highlands is at home, that should play into their strength & physicality. Newport is probably the more talented basketball team in regards to skill, but you play to win. Highlands has the tools to deter that skill & finesse through physical play. I believe this is a double digit game, just not sure which way I'd lean.
  15. Simon Kenton v. Walton should be an excellent game! Walton's bigs vs. SK guards. Who will be able to neutralize the other? I saw a post on another thread that said this is the best SK team in years... pretty cool that Niece brings that much to the table. I know he has decent role guys around him, but I know there has been a lot of talent at Simon throughout the years. So, to be the best tells me a lot about KN and this team. Is it their year? Finally.....
  16. You make some good points on each team. Beechwood having already played 9 games, and being 8-1 is impressive. Victories over LexCath, Scott, and Grant Co., with only a loss on the road at Cooper, Im surprised they are 4. Should be interesting to see how they handle Campbell County, at their own place on Friday night. CC is similar to Cooper, imo, but with some legit scorers.
  17. If Highlands beat CovCath at home, and the way they’re playing this season, I’m going to say they can pretty much beat everyone there. Hopefully it’s a great game.
  18. This gets lost in most conversations. Everyone has a new “hot take” heading into the new week. Next sunday night it will be something else. Still very early. Not even 1/3 of the way into the season.
  19. No one can argue this. A full sponsorship by Under Armor is material proof of that. But, CCH being down, doesn’t make the region down. The region is as deeply competitive as it’s been in the last 5-7 years, imo.
  20. Why is it that because CovCath is down the hat the region has to be down? I’d maybe argue differently. Cooper looks really good. Beechwood & Highlands are competing at a high level and play very tough & strong together. Newport has some pieces that could allow them to compete. I hate the notion that because CovCath is down, the region must be lacking. Not to mention, I think we all expect CCH to be playing at a high level come February.
  21. Don’t think he’ll play anytime soon, if at all. Just a hunch. Young man has committed to Notre Dame. Risk worth the reward??
