Read the threads about the realignment and you'll see a lot of preening, pouting, and pontificating in regards to X and T being placed in the same district. For some reason many of those people feel it's their right and the KHSAA"s obligation to set up the brackets so that two Louisville powers with the most enrollment in the state meet in early December to decide who the best 6A team is in the commonwealth. Who ever said that it's the obligation of the state to get the two best teams to the finals? It rarely happens and losing in the state finals does not mean that you are the second best team in the state despite what SK and Ryle fans might have you believe. The brackets are regionally based and always will be. It gets representatives from separate parts of the state ...as it should. Unless you go to a season where all of the top teams from around the state play each other so that the KHSAA can seed intelligently the current system is the only way to do it despite what some of the elites of Louisville would have you believe. In other words, in regards to what game X and T might meet it in, who gives a darn? It doesn't matter in any other division. Why should it matter in regards to these two teams? Let me state for the record that I'm not impugning all fans of the two programs. I am criticizing those that seem to feel entitled or feel that they're the "victims" of the dastardly beaurocrats in Lexington. Get over your collective selves.

I'm disappointed that it will be October 8th before anyone gets an idea if Holmes is any good or not. They may be the favorites to win the 4A championship. They may be pretenders. We simply do not know.

What about the coaches not staying in the box. It seems like that's never called a technical.

The fact that it was on TV TWENTY YEARS AGO and the fact that it draws the highest crowd in the country for a single game is totally irrelevant to anyone outside of Louisville. The two schools probably graduate 750 boys per year combined who are loyal to their school. They come back after college and become leaders in Louisville so it's only natural that they would draw great crowd. Add in that they're two of the top schools in the state each year and it adds up to a big game. It doesn't, however, mean anything to 99% of Kentuckians outside of the fine city of Louisville. That's not a criticism of the programs, the quality of football, or the fans. They should have a huge crowd every year and they do. Just because people in Inez and Louisa agree that the two schools produce the top two teams annually or that they would enjoy seeing the game does not mean it's a good reflection OF Kentucky football or that it's good for the state as a whole. Put your egos aside for a second and think about the facts I've laid out and ask yourself the following: HOW is the football played in this one game good for Lawrence County's program or their fans?

How about we let the kid just be himself and not try to live upto a legend?

They're not in the national conversation. Yes, they may read a blurb about them in USA Today but is out of the national mind as soon as they hit the Life section. I don't think it's reflective of KY football in the least. Two private schools with 1500 boys paying $8K to $10k per year to attend isn't something that the vast majority of the state recognizes nor cares about. You think people in Inez are talking to their friends in West Virginia about this game? You think the people in Louisa are? Its' talked about in Louisville by the movers and shakers. It's great football. It's not KY football in any shape or form. In my opinion it gives the city of Louisville way too much love for the state of football in the city.

You must be lost. My opinions are based solely on teams in Northern Kentucky.

As a long time lurker on this board I know that you're a big cheerleader for your Colonels. However, Highlands players are getting great educations and they're still elite. You can do both. Has the Colonels program settled?

Indiana has 5 NCAA championships. Are they still considered elite?

If Dixie stays within 4 touchdowns they will be having a pep rally on Monday.

The JV qb is good but he's the qb next year. Cy Smith is not the problem at Conner so the qb debate is useless.

Boone's wins were overblown by everyone including fans and the coaches that vote. Didn't Henry Clay give them 2 touchdowns with turnovers ? Scott County? Football in the Lexington area is really weak as we saw with Lexington Catholic getting demolished by Covington Catholic after Covington Catholic lost by 54. I think people's preseason views and opinions on Boone County's season were closer to right than the overblown reaction of the first two games.

Long time lurker and long time observer of high school football in northern Kentucky. I think many from downstate would get the feeling that football in northern Kentucky is really good. It's OK but it's not really good. Highlands has yet to be tested and probably won't be tested until they reach the finals. How good are they we don't really know. We thought Ryle would give a good indication but that probably isn't true. Are they as good as last year's team? Probably not even though they still might win the 5A. Covington Catholic is the same old team as the Dave Brossart team just with a coach that the fans seem to like better. Still not winning big games. Bad, bad defense. How good is the staff Wurth has hired? Is that the problem? Not much depth for a program with great history. Are they OK with .500 records and a nice coach? Who knows how good Ryle can be with the way they call plays. How can college coaches look at a kid and offer him Division 1 scholarships yet Ryle choose not to use him? It's not like Pike where they aren't sure what position he is going to play in collge. The kid is only going to be a qb. We see that they aren't sure what's going on since they demoted their OC. The rest of 6A is just average or weak. Simon Kenton is solid but not a contender or threat to the Louisville schools. Conner has gone backwards after last year's class left. Boone County fans get what they deserve since they just let the program continue to flounder. Cooper is on the rise but not there yet. Campbell County seems like implosion is near. Dixie gets what they deserve since they have their knee-jerk response of "hey we're in with Highlands and Covington Catholic". Nice coach but a program that doesn't seem like they have the commitment. The positive I will throw out is in regards to Newport Catholic and Holy Cross. I like their teams. Beechwood is down. Not sure why. Maybe Rick Shumate has convicned enough boys that they don't have to do football year round and they can have fun in basketball. I guess I should add Brossart and Walton to the list of teams that are doing well. The rest of 1A is really bad. Holmes is the team that is interesting. I am not sure why so many people rave about them since we have no idea if they're legit or not. Their schedule is set up for them to dominate teams. At least they have. Good young coach but the jury is still out. So I just dont see the football being played up here as being overly good and I see too many fans with their head stuck in the sand to realize it.
