Lorenzen and Towles: Similarities

Featured Replies

Towles has been praised recently for his athletic prowess on the field and you can't argue with the numbers. I recently watched Lorenzen as a junior play Cov. Cath (97 mudbowl) and I was amazed at his athleticism despite his large frame. He seemed effortless when throwing the ball and seldom had his feet planted when passing in that game. He was elusive and could run effectively as well. In other words, he seemed very much in control and comfortable in and outside the pocket. Towles has a large stature and has shown he can run effectively as well as throw bombs. So, are these two QB's and their game's similar or are we seeing the great work of Lorenzen's coaching being played out every friday night. To me, Towles has grown in leaps and bounds from last year....

You can compare them, sure....they both play QB, they both play for Highlands. If Towles ends up being close to as good as Lorenzen, you have no idea what you have on your hands. Unless he decides to change his number to #22 and stiff arm linemen as he throws the ball deep for a TD, he won't be close...IMHO.

Lorenzen had a stronger arm IMO than Patrick but that certainly doesnt mean PT 's arm is weak. He can zing it as well but I still remember watching Lorenzen throw it through the goal post in warm ups from one knee at the 50 yrd line.

I have seen Patrick to the exact same thing....but from the 55 yard line. They did it in practice.

Didn't know football fields had a 55 yard line. Are you saying he threw the ball 65 yards on one knee and it cleared the crossbar?

^Another question, how far can he throw the ball standing up?

Classic post! 55 yard line lmbo. If true about PT that is awesome. His granpa was a former MLB twirler so it makes sense. Gotta love PTs upside, he will be a dandy at the next level IMO.

It must have been at the Montreal Practice Facility.

I'll clarify. He was 55 yards out a.k.a. the other 45 yard line. Man you all pick at every word on here. :irked:

They both played QB at Highlands. End of simularities. Towels doesn't have the strength, size, mobility, or accuracy of the Lefty.

You are wrong in every way possible. Towles is taller, faster, and as accurate as Lorenzen was. Jared will even tell you himself. And its Towles...not Towels.

I couldn't agree more. This is the reason I started the thread b/c I thought looking at the footage from 97' that Towles looks incredibly sharp for a jr. I do think Jared was more elusive or at least in that particular game.

I watched the game too, and it seems like Towles is more fundamentally sound then Lorenzen who got by on sheer talent. Throwing off his back foot etc. Id say Towles game is more similar to a Steve Young type while Lorenzen would be a Favre type. (Im not comparing the players, just comparing their quarterbacking styles)

I don't care what his coach will say about him, I have seen them both play in games. Towles is nowhere near as accurate, not near as heavy, not near as good at avoiding pressure, not near as tough to bring down. Jared couldn't watch himself play, and he is no doubt wanting to talk up his player. To compare the two is ludicrous. I am aware he is as tall, but the weight is uncomparable. As for strength both in the arm and in the body, come on. Are you serious? I am not saying that Towles isn't good, but you are trying to compare him to one of the best that ever played the position at the high school level in this state. He isn't there yet.

Towles doesnt want to weigh 240. Why would he? That makes no sense what so ever. Talk about avoiding pressure? Towles will have more rushing yards and rushing touchdowns this year then Lorenzen had. And I also think Jared was blessed with some unbelievable receivers. If you gave Towles Derek Smith to throw to it wouldnt even be fair.

(Although I am no where saying his receivers this year are not doing a wonderful job which they are.)
