What is going on at Conner?

Featured Replies

Is it just a down year in talent or is it deeper than that?

Conner is almost always respectable but not this year...

Does Conner go down to 5A next year? And if so, do you think that is what they are pointing to?

I have never been all that impressed with the opponents Conner schedules early in their season. I don't think there is any value whatsoever in playing opponents like Scott and Lloyd and it certainly doesn't prepare you for 6A district play.

I was told by a Conner parent/fan that the offense is too predictable, the defense is too soft and their conditioning is almost non existent. I wish the Cougars the best. Hopefully they get back on track quick because it looks like Cooper plans on spoiling their senior night this year.

Welcome to BGP FITS, nice to see you here. Funny you mention the predictability regarding Conner. I was told the same thing from a Cooper parent about the Cooper team. I also wish the Jags the best, and really hope they have their wish granted to join the 5A class. Funny how almost 700 of Conner's students built Cooper and yet you want to beat them down. Ironic. Nevertheless, I look forward to the Conner/Cooper game on Sr. night. If you want to see the future, I also hope to see you at Cooper on 10/23 at 10 am. Good luck to your team for the rest of the season.

To Ru: Nothing to worry about at Conner, just a little transition year. Pipeline is full of liquid gold.

RE, All I said was exactly what a Conner player parent/fan told me. He may be 100% wrong. But at this stage of the season all teams have revealed their tendencies. I am not trying to "beat CHS down" and I am glad the CHS JV team shows promise because it seems like the varsity sure needs that "liquid gold". Now that CHS is into the true competition on their schedule and finished with the gimme games is the reality of the current season apparent? From your post it seems like you are looking to the future seasons when this one is just half over. Will CHS win another varsity game or is it time to switch over to the JV games? RE, don't give up on this season yet. I only wish the best for CHS, but again, listening to the CHS player parent/fan this season is all but over. Look on the bright side, "if" CHS loses to Cooper, that will only make this rivalry better in the years t come when the CHS "liquid gold" is playing under the lights on Friday night. RE, best wishes.

Conner has some nice young talent...Fogle, etc, but the fact remains that the Cougars have been disappointing in the playoffs since 1983.

I think this program is headed in the wrong direction. Ryle is making forward strides, as is SK and now Cooper. Boone and Conner need to join the party.

No ... disappointing since 1993 and 1996 ..

Had Cov Cath on the ropes in 1993 in the 3rd round (7-3--and Cov Cath won on a slip on a mysterious "wet" field .. when it hadn't rained in weeks)

In 1996--they got beat in the 3rd round against a good Highlands team.

Conner has some good players I just think SK is that much better.

Please keep your SK comments in SK threads.

If you look at every team, their offense is predictable. If something works, run it! When it is adjusted to and stopped, you adjust! I never understood how the people in the stands could say something is predictable. Having watched both of these teams, seeing the number of different formations each team runs, and the plays and how they differ in each formation I'd say it would be pretty hard to prepare for. Of course then, I'm also one of these people in the stands and I just enjoy watching a good game of football!

I don't know a lot of the young players coming through the system but I do know they have a chance to have a very good qb over the next 3 seasons.

I like the size of the Kunkel kid but I think his future is on the OL rather than at TE.

Obviously, the current soph Fogle is going to be a big factor over the next two seasons.

Can they get the other parts?

TMS, I agree with you on most points. Although the good teams always scout and prepare. Looking at the score from last night, SK must have been ready for the CHS formations. I also agree with you on watching a good game of football but if you call the SK domination of CHS a good football game, our opinions contrast on what "a good game of football" looks like.

Based on what I have seen from watching their 5 JV games, I would have to answer yes to your question. Fogel will be very special over the next two seasons. Keep an eye out, good things happening in Hebron.

Nothing at all just regression.
